After watching and enjoying a lot of Calvin's content, it finally clicked in my mind - Calvin is the Bob Ross of bicycles. Very relaxing presenter.
Hahahaha! Calvin will clean the happy bicycles.
@@kamuelalee I really thought about Bob Ross watching this video. This was healthy! :D

You forgot the zip tie.

Cheers for this, I've been looking for "bicycles guide" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Viyackson Yenacob Review - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy got cool success with it.

LOLOLOLLOLLOLOLO
Amazing video. I'm in my late 50's and I worked on cars and airplanes, but I never really knew there was proper way to wash a bike. I've always old schooled it by slopping soap all over it, blasting it with a water hose and overlubed the chain with too much oil. I've even recently purchased a Park Tool maintenance stand, and the home mechanic tool set and dummy hub. I'm living proof that old dogs can be taught new tricks...🤣
How is it going for you 2 years later ? I hope you're doing alright.
"This is riveting stuff" and "Thank you for washing". I love cheesy puns. :D
I stayed for 15 min just to hear the washing pun.
Tony Maholski good job !
nice one, good to hear puns not being missed out, thanks, by the way they are NOT cheesy, just good old fashioned pun fun :)))

"Thank you for washing" made the whole video worthwhile
After watching, followed Calvin's step-by-step exactly, including same order. My bike looks like it just came off the showroom floor!
I did not realize the chain cleaning tool should include a soap bath after the degreaser. Learn something every time I watch these great videos.
Thank you Park Tool and thank you Calvin for these great videos!
I am going to support park tool by buying their products because they make awesome videos. thank you
I have been doing the same! Learned a lot from their videos, so giving something back.

well youre not wrong, Thinking of buying some tools that I would need, just started biking and bought a crappy bike with a good frame, bought some components and now need the tools.

Why do they always wash clean bikes in bike wash videos?

Dirty bike 45 min video
I've left my kona smoke 2006 with a bent fork and a bent rear wheel for almost a year, you can't imagine the rust and the dirt that came out of it when i cleaned it. I had the same thought you had when i saw this video.

It's like the razor commercials shaving hairless legs
So the bike doesn't get embarrassed
Nice tips on re-lubing the chain, the slow method link by link, and the exterior excess wipe down that would otherwise attract dirt. Never knew this stuff before. I'll go that route next time.
same re-lubing is nice
This has to be the most legendary bike wash on the Internet. This man loves washing his bike, it is near genius. “Typically 3-4 revolutions is what it takes after we find the chain master link...”
I just LOVE this Parktoolguy for his thoroughness. Im like him a lot and my friends and family think im crazy, but we know better dont we Parktoolguy?

trolling on bike repair videos that's pretty sad. This is a great tutorial. thank you 2 the crew at park tools 🙏☺️
Bought decent bicycle recently and your videos helped me allot on learning how to look after my bicycle. I bought your branded tools to support you. Thank you.
Man… this videos are pure gold, and Calvin is just an amazing presenter!! Thank you!
This is riveting stuff, and thank you for washing. Love it!! I feel like I should be doing this occasionally, and it would be great to have a repair stand for the bike!! Otherwise, much more difficult.
Calvin is awesome! Love watching his videos, they have been so helpful. Next up I want to see a video of him totally smashing a downhill run on that Salsa! I bet he can ride!
I love the combination of precise tools and household items
So impressed by the quality and production of these Park Tools videos. You guys nailed it. And thanks!
Thank's Calvin me and my bike are more happy now with all your practical suggestion and thank you for washing :-))))))
"This is riveting stuff!" What a guy, and great video.
Calvin, superb presentation. I've been cleaning my bikes for forty years, but I still learned some new tricks. One comment, you should ensure that the chain is completely dry before applying lubricant.
This guy is the best bike maintenance presenter on the Web, no nonsense straight on with clear advice.
Thanks to you park tool I started a bike detailing and washing company in my neighborhood.
How much for a wash?
"Thanks for washing"👍🏻 Good one😉
I cleaned my chains and drive chain THIS WAY and it was amazing. Thankyou Calvin
This is the best commercial for Park tools brushes....I just bought some along with the sleeper hub.
anybody else find this weirdly satisfying

Yes
yup i watch this when i'm stressed and feel much better afterwards!
Yes. I like to imagine it's my bike he's washing ! My old GT really needs a good wash.
Ben Bonwitt-Marsh still washing
The cost of all the equipment in this video > my bike
It's worth it to avoid your chain breaking when you are out in the middle of nowhere.
DDC ll same here man, same here 😔
So true.
Rich white men
A clean bike retains its value longer.
Budget tips:
Old toothbrushes are good replacements for those tools, it just takes longer to wash.
A nail brush with an used kitchen sponge on top can replace the chain cleaning tool.
A bar or rope to hang your bike, or simply leaning it against a wall replaces the stand.
Thank you for "washing" you sir have a mesmerising way of explaining things. I could watch your videos just simply for the way you explain things. This channel is like therapy!
I have the exact year and color Salsa Spearfish, so it's extra satisfying watching this - I don't clean my bike anymore I just watch this before bed and sleep well knowing my bike is ready for my morning ride.
Best video on washing bike. So much in detail.
Such a good professional man you are! I have enjoyed every second of your video, I have even laughed surprised of how well thought every step is thought by you... Really wonderful, thanks for your humble greatness!
Another excellent vid. I didn't think I'd have a lot to learn about washing a bike, but you hit every detail, and I made note of some ways to improve my washing. Thanks?
The most to-the-point bike maintenance vid I seen so far. "thank you for washing" he knows how to talk.
His voice is so relaxing
Excellent tutorial. My contribution is that I use a little garden watering can to rinse the stuff.
These videos are so good and answer so many things they almost make me emotional!
Hands down the best video on cleaning bikes. Thank you.
now this bike is cleaner than me
and yet?
The chain isn't actually that clean. I wouldn't send that out of my shop on a degrease service.
It really cannot be stressed enough how useful the dummy hub is and also how rare it is to find in brick and mortar stores. Since I cannot find any near me, I purchased a metal patio roller wheel bearing from a local hardware store and put a dowel through the hole to serve as a makeshift dummy hub.
That sounds like a smart idea, thanks for sharing!
I've been binge watching your CZcams uploads I've learnt so much
Excellent. You showed me a few great tips that will become part of my bike wash routine. Awesome as usual. Thank you.
Eye protection, Calvin! Safety first!
Safety, accuracy, speed
Trust Calvin...He was schooling us tech mechanics at the OTC for decades long before Park created all the wash gizmos.
OTC...you mean he was into the ponies???
(Ah, shit. I guess that's OTB. Oops!)
Not sure what to say, but couldn't stop watching until the very end. What a legend this guy is!
Cheers from Australia 🦘
I watched the entire video just because it was so satisfying to watch.
This is for an "ideal" situation, with a specific, tool, stand, brush, liquid for everything. Would be cool a video for regular casual bike users that don't have as many resources.
Go watch GCN 5min bike wash video all you need is a sponge or a brush. And some WD-40 as degreaser and greaser. Oh and water and swoap.

Excellent demo for washing...it's a good guide to do things properly. We all do it our own way, but at least the entire process is easy to understand for that "first time" bike washer. Once question though--what about the missing zip tie he mentioned while inspecting the bike?
+G Robin The tip was that washing a bike presents an opportunity to inspect it for future repairs. Let's hope he added the zip tie after the bike dried ;-)
Awesome, thanks. I was thinking I needed to lubricate the gears, front and rear. Appreciate you for the clarity!
I know how to wash my bike, but a refresher from this guy is worth the 16min’s it took to watch him washing, the bike!!!
Thanks - Another good Park how-to. Expensive tools, but good quality!

FANTASTIC JOB. Boy I never have given a bike that good of a cleaning , but with a new bike stand from Parks this is going to be fun. Thanks Calvin
I just watched this to bring myself down from a panic attack. Worked like a charm. I also know now how to properly wash my bike. Thanks Park Tool!
woodstockanhaenger if you care to share, is it learning a new process/finding a distraction helps?
@@jstokes4419 distractions do help. in this case it was the voice and the subject that was oddly calming.
It's critical for you to learn and practice what many people call square breathing, or controlled, purposeful breathing technique.
It begins without relaxation of your diaphragm. Consontrate on exhaling completely while, as much as you can maintaining a relaxed diaphragm, then you take in a smooth, full breath through your nose.Hd that breath for a count of 4, exhale completely in a rhythm that ends on a count of four. Relax counting to 4, then repeat the process. It will take a bit of patience and practice, but eventually you'll easily find your bodies own rhythm, so your square breathing doesn't leave you out of breath, or where you're hyperventilating.
Trust me, this worked like magic for me, and others I've suggested to try it. The real key, and critical to success is to close your eyes and RELAX YOUR DIAPHRAGM. Think about "becoming your breath".
The Buddhist Monks have been doing this for centuries so there's something to consider about it.
With practice i give you my word, if you are serious about it and keep trying to relax (total relaxation of your neck and face seems key as well), use as little muscle movement as possible (even in the way you change from inhaling through your nasal passage to exhaling out your mouth, with as little movement in your mouth), I'm as sure as I can be, you will eventually reach a point where YOU are in control, not your emotion...
Please try, try, try! Pass this on, share it with your friends and family.
Good health to you, and blessings on your adventure.

Calvin Jones is the best, there's no doubt about it!

your videos are always so detailed and clear, very helpful. thank you.
Love this, but seriously.... I only had a yellow dish sponge, a common garden hose with no nozzle and a dry pair of rags (one for wiping off the chain, and one for wiping off the rest of the bike)
1) Set your bike up against a wall or put down the kickstand
2) hook up the hose and place your thumb over half of the end of it to produce a slightly pressurized stream.
3) quickly hose the whole bike including chain, everything. Get off all large pieces of dirt and leaves from every corner.
4) quickly take rag number one, wipe every part of the bike starting from the wheels until mostly dry.
5) then take sponge, get sponge completely wet, squeeze once, use soft side to get the rest of the dirt from all over the bike.
6)squeeze sponge till completely void of water and dab the bike clean.
(Quick cleaning above)
(Deeper clean instructions below)
7) get on bike, ride forward and shift chain to highest front wheel gear, lowest back wheel gear, apply rockstar gold lube(cleaning plus lubricant wet lub if don't have) by dripping it on chain from lowest back wheel gear while you spin the chain. Then let spin for few seconds, then take rag two and hold the chain on the bottom by the back wheel shifting mechanism then spin chain while holding it, pull chain through the rag, repeat till you think its clean enough.
8) Apply lube as in step 7, but this time, let chain spin till it stops dripping lube on the ground, pull full chain length through rag like twice as in step 7. Take bike somewhere and let sit for 2 hours for maximum effect(doesn't matter though)
This should take you like 25 minutes on your first try and 10-15 minutes on all others depending on how dirty everything is.
You're Welcome. ;D
(Do what is in the video for deep deep cleaning) should do when super dirty or after like a month of bike riding on regular roads no weather conditions)

Thank you for these great videos!! Not only does it teach us to maintain our equipment but helps us maintain a healthy lifestyle. Price less!!
I just subscribed to the Park Tool videos, and have been learning a LOT. I'm so glad to have found this wealth of bike-care info!
So how do i wash my bike if i live in apartment and the only thing i have is a small bathtub, a toothbrush a couple different size paint brushes and a shaggy sponge? Could you do a video for that for us.
You go for a ride when it's raining. Don't forget to rub on some soap beforehand.
You can still follow this guide.
Just need a bit of creativity to make it work
Assuming you can't be outdoors or position it over the tub, I'd guess you might be able to disassemble it and wash it bit by bit - if you're confident you can do it without damaging it, that is.
you don't. it's a vehicle....
What happened to the zip tie he took a mental note of 😂😂
Mental notes expire 😅
I was thinking the same thing :-))
You're good.........
He forgot. It happens. Even to the best of us.
he'll remember three days later and then not do it till later...
Best demonstration ever. Legend at work right here
Simple, few tools and efficient! Superb video!
Why am I watching this when I don't even own a bike?
Braselton94 Because deep down inside you really want to get a bike and start riding again? Washing this prepares you for washing your bike when it needs it! Get a bike, you'll not be sorry!
Because you are going to buy one and take one more car off the road
because you should get a bike
because you are a bike-loverrr at heart. Go get 'em Tiger.
Lol
Title should have been :
"How to wash a bike while under the influence of a moustache".
Great concentration challenge.
Thanks.
I am soooo glad I found Calvin and this channel.
Best bike wash video I’ve seen to date 👍
Excellent. Calvin is a genius!
Great video. Is it best to lube the chain immediately, or better to wait a day until dry? Or chase the water away with say WD40, then lube?
It is best to blow dry with an air compressor. At least wipe with a dry rag, and then lubricate with a chain lube, no need for the water displacer.
-Calvin
Excellent video, also mention of certain specialized tools was helpful. Very thorough.
I got to tell you, you are in the right profession because you really care about bikes. Amazing but I clean my bikes with the same care as you. Been doing it for forty years.

The quality of these videos is so great that I now tap "like" to them before they even start.
Another Masterclass by Calvin.
Remember to do this procedure after every 25 minutes of use of your bike! MAINTENANCE MATTERS 😉
Haha!🤣
I have a lake near my house, I throw my bike in it , wait 1 minute , and then I lube my chain with cooking oil, and my bicycle works better than new . :D
I do the same, except I use motor oil, wipe the excess and throw the rag in the lake.
After a few hours, I can pick up dead floating fishes for dinner.
I do the same but use paint remover on my frame and candle wax on the drivetrain
I do the same but i throw it in the sea for a few hours and when i ride it, there is a new orange colour on the bolts and noisy crank just like a motorcycle.
I throw mine in the river and I never have to listen to noisy cranks after that!
‘I do the same’ but I never retrieve the bike back cause fish’s winds of stealing them leaving me on getting another bike
Thank you for washing LOL… Can’t get enough of your videos!

It seems like such a trivial task but you can do so much wrong. There's nothing like the feeling after you cleaned and lubed your bike perfectly though
Thank you for washing! LOL
Wow, most of the time is spent cleaning the drivetrain. It is the most important!
Lately, I been cleaning it more.
