    Individual reactions: • DOCTOR WHO - 50TH ANNI...
    A mashup reaction video for the "Curator / Future Doctor" scene from Day of the Doctor 50th Anniversary special.
    I love all of the fan reaction videos I've seen for the 50th anniversary special of Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor. I thought I'd try and put a few of them into one video so that the reactions could be seen simultaneously.
    I've never edited anything before and found it extremely difficult. I know there are a lot of issues with my final edit but for a first attempt I'm pretty proud of it. I used PiTiVi on Ubuntu 13.10 and it kept crashing. I couldn't get the videos exactly where I wanted them and I totally gave up on trying to mix the audio. Also they kept going out of sync. It took me a full two hours to do the above. Huge respect to those who edit videos, it's really hard work!
    PLEASE visit the youtubers who's videos I compiled above, their videos are all great fun and I hope give you as much enjoyment as they have given to me! My compilation only takes a little bit of their respective reactions, go to their individual videos for the full experience to see how they reacted to other parts of the 50th!
    Thanks to the youtubers for sharing their videos online! I hope you see this compilation as a complement to your reactions :)

      Considering the fact that Tom Baker previously said he wasn't going to participate, and how his hair looks way different than it used to, I'm not surprised that they didn't expect it.

    When I heard Tom's voice I just started crying. That wonderful Doctor that I only saw briefly back in the early 80's had finally come back to the show he helped make popular around the world. I will never forget that moment or scene in the 50th for as long as I live. It was Epic beyond belief. The most special moment in Who history.

    • @ricardoparente5824
      @ricardoparente5824 Před 9 lety +15

      JamerTheGamer Well... kinda? Sorta? It's a future version of the Doctor that wanted to repeat ("revisit") an old face, so he's like the Fourth, but older and more knowledgeable of things yet to come for the Doctor/himself

    • @SuperDuperJamer
      @SuperDuperJamer Před 9 lety +3

      Ricardo Parente I thought that was just the Fourth Doctor, but due to meeting the Eleventh Doctor, his face looked older. (Like the time Fifth met Tenth.)
      Not only that, but the "Curator" sort of hints that he's from the Doctor's past, and so does the Eleventh. "I never forget a face.".
      I always thought that "You'll be revisiting the old favorites" meant seeing his past selves.

    • @andrewmakesthings
      @andrewmakesthings Před 9 lety +12

      +JamerTheGamer It's a future Doctor. "I could retire and be the Curator of this place", "You know I really think you might."- he's a future Doctor, retired, revisiting old faces- when he, like other Time Lords, has gained control over his regenerations (the Doctor is unusually bad at regenerating). That's why he talks about knowing that he'll retire, why the Curator knew that the Doctor would be there to talk to, why the Curator has knowledge of what comes next (only the latest Doctor remembers everything about the adventure when their timelines cross), why the Curator knew that the Doctor's plan worked and that Gallifrey was saved- this due to Time Lords all living lives relative to each other (save for shenanigans), so a previous Doctor wouldn't know about the future fate of Gallifrey. It's also why the Curator says "Perhaps I was you of course, or perhaps you were me." Both statements are true- the 11th already had the 4th's face, and now the future Doctor, the Curator, has already had the 11th's. 4 was never the Curator, we've seen his life played out already. It's also why this version of 4's face was old- he's retired, living out his life quietly, the Curator of the National Gallery. You aren't wrong in your reasoning, but you're coming at it from the wrong conclusion.

    Steven Moffatt has his haters, but the man could deliver a surprise like few others. John Hurt as the War Doctor, THE NIGHT OF THE DOCTOR featuring the return of Paul McGann, and the 'All Thirteen!' and 'The Curator' scenes from DAY OF THE DOCTOR (amongst others), showed that in today's world of spoilers and people being able to know (supposedly) everything beforehand, we saw that Moffatt could startle fans with something unexpected...and some people hated that fact. Bravo Steven!!!

    The scene with the Curator was wonderful, both powerful and touching. The Doctor has the grief of thinking he was responsible for destroying Gallifrey lifted, as the world was saved. And, to see Tom Baker again, brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye, remembering the wonderful years I saw him as the Doctor, and seeing him still putting up a brilliant performance. Bless him, Tom Baker.

      I have accepted the headcanon that in some future time the Doctor will make his final regeneration into The Curator and turn his TARDIS into the museum and retire to live out the rest of his life on Earth in relative comfort.
      And every now and then when he feels nostalgic he may look out a window and see his younger self running around outside saving the planet from another otherworldly threat and smile before going back to his afternoon tea.

    My pet theory (mostly wishful thinking, probably) is that this device of future incarnations adopting "old favorite" faces may have also provided a way for them to bring back Paul McGann, despite his age difference later, and provide an opportunity for the spin off that McGann so richly deserves, or a companion miniseries of episodes or specials, as has been rumored from time to time. It rings somewhat plausible given Moffatt's round-about way of planting seeds for future directions. A McGann series is often thought to be a surefire winner with Who fans. Night of the Doctor rekindled a lot of interest in some quarters to building on McGann's characterization. For many Big Finish fans, he is the definitive Doctor. SO very good in the role in audio. Night of the Doctor put some great possibilities on display.

      +Seamus Burke I don't think most of the fans would mind Tom coming back a few more times. For people who know the shows history well Tom Baker will always have a special place in our hearts. Plus he played the role the longest and during some of the best years for the show. I remember to how Doctor Who really took off outside the U.K. when they started airing his episodes....especially in North America & Australia. I like all the Doctors but I admit there was something very magical about Moffat picking Tom to comeback for that scene. I just know if it would have felt the same with any other. Doctor. Lastly we don't know how much longer we'll have Tom with us. If Steven Moffat brought Tom back a few more times I think there's a few of us fans that wouldn't object.

    Roundels on the wall tell you they are in the curator's tardis. In the much maligned 70s The Invasion of Time you get to see an entire art gallery, hospital, swimming pool and power plant deep inside the tardis. The tardis is a city onto itself. Dimensional tracendentalism an old trick of the Time Lords. Lovely call back to those of us who grew up with him as our doctor. Or in my case recent rebroadcasts on PBS North Dakota carried across the border by our cable providers and before that over the air 3rd and 4th Doctors. I remember them. Born just before Tom took over the role, grew up watching the stories. My doctor. My favourite. Followed by 3rd and final Doctor Capaldi.

    My jaw hit the floor when Tom Baker appeared. I think I would have preferred it if the Tenth Doctor had stuck around for a bit longer to meet the Curator and then my top three favourite Doctors could have interacted with each other. This was still a joyous moment though and it will always be one of my favourite scenes in Doctor Who. I often imagine a James Bond movie doing something like this.

    the curator wasn't a future doctor he was the 4th doctor Tom Baker.

    • @elminsters
      @elminsters  Před 10 lety +2

      Steven Moffat deliberately left it open to interpretation but the evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of the curator being a future doctor who when regenerating has decided to look like one of his past regenerations.

    • @johnnyprothero9640
      @johnnyprothero9640 Před 10 lety

      no it was Tom Baker. Who was the 4th doctor that is a fact. So unless they are going to do a story line where the 4th doctor becomes one of the next doctors it would br impossible.

    • @elminsters
      @elminsters  Před 10 lety +2

      johnny prothero There is a precedent for the same actor to play different roles in the Doctor Who universe thus it is not impossible. No one is disputing that Tom Baker played the role of the fourth Doctor. Here he simply played the role of a future Doctor who is not the fourth.
      (1) We know from Night of the Doctor that the regeneration process can be manipulated, thus it is fair to say that physical attributes can also be controlled under the right circumstances.
      (2) There are many instances of one actor playing different roles in the Doctor Who universe (e.g. Colin Baker, Billie Piper, Karen Gillian, Peter Capalidi, etc).
      (3) The scene with the Curator in Day Of The Doctor sees Tom Baker's character talking in the past tense in relation to the Eleventh Doctor's future reavealing foreknowledge and implying that they as individuals are the same person.
      (4) etc.

    • @fritzmoy101
      @fritzmoy101 Před 8 lety

      Or, it's a different version of the doctor from another universe/dimension that got stuck in the same one as the one we know. Maybe he's still just on his 4th generation, knowing that he never would have to regenerate unless he wanted too.

      The most popular theory is that The Curator is a future version of the Doctor. However, the guy playing The Curator is Tom Baker and he is the oldest surviving actor to have played the role of The Doctor (he was the 4th Doctor in the 70s). So basically, we're all happy because Tom Baker made an appearance.
