Yeah creating a stock market for a new currency in a block game made in like 2007 is pretty simple, actually
3:01 - The anvil has a _50_ (not 31; just verified it with Minecraft now) character limit, and while Minecraft _theoretically_ accepts the full range of Unicode characters (except, possibly, emojis), it will only correctly render 145 of them, plus a space (so 146). Given that 146^50 is approximately 1.65×10^108 possible permutations in all of Minecraft, this is _quite_ a bit more than the estimated number of stars in the universe (on the order of at _least_ a septillion, or 10^24). Even with just the upper and lowercase letters, the numbers, and a space (37 characters), that's _still_ 2.57×10^78 permutations. So, no Mumbo was not exaggerating there; in fact, it seems he's severely underestimated.
I like your funny words math man
Me:confused oonga boonga noises
I’m not sure if this would work, but you might be able to get even more combinations if you use a different character set, such as one for Chinese where they might have even more characters, making more possible states for the different characters to be. It might be a struggle trying to find a character set with more symbols in it though, especially one that Minecraft supports.
@@clicksandbeeps61 Chinese characters _are_ supported (I would know). Indeed, the _entire_ Unicode is _theoretically_ supported. At present, Unicode has (at least) 96,382 characters; nPr(96382,31) = 3.17×10^154, a number so atrociously massive that I have nothing but abstract figures to compare it. It's a 150% googol if you know what I mean.
The estimated number of atoms in the universe is about 10^80. The (lower bound of) the number of possible chess games is about 10^120 (the Shannon number). The number of possible games of _Chinese_ chess is about 10^150. The number of legal positions in Go is about 10^170. Theoretically, Unicode can support over a million code points. If we ever reach that point, the lower bound nPr(1000000, 31) = 9.995×10^185.
Yeah, I was literally thinking the same thing! Hopefully mumbo sees this and corrects his little mistake, it's a common mistake most Rookies make it 😂😂

I'm really glad this video appeared in my feed. I play modded minecraft almost exclusively for a number of reasons, but so many modpacks just assume a certain level of knowledge, and nothing kills my enjoyment of a pack more than having to click off it every five seconds because the questline just isn't bothering to explain literally anything and skim through a half an hour long video to try to find a two minute section on the thing I actually want to know about. I didn't totally follow this video, for sure, but I got at least some of it and was able to see some of the stuff you can do with redstone. Part of my lack of knowledge is likely just that I don't watch much minecraft content, but still.

FINALLY MY REDSTONE KNOWLEDGE LEVELED UP
Most complicated redstone build ive done, and this was at a time before we had even comparators, was a giant 5 button combination lock. It used a bunch of "relays" i made out of a repeater, feeding into itself with a piston to "break" the redstone circuits connection to unlatching my relay. Had a giant room of these things and one big reset line, used pistons to redirect(block/unblock) whole lines of redstone so the wrong buttons would reset the whole combination and getting it right let you into the base. From what i can tell there are better ways of doing it now but i plan to recreate it sooner or later
He speaks of “Smart Pistons”. I wonder if there are “Stupid Pistons” 🤔
They are just the normal pistons without any circuit
The ones I made
Because I don't really know how to use them in a efficient way * cry *
if there are, im one of them
Pistons that fire when the block in front of them is taken away?
Yeah the pistons that aren't powered are stupid pistons
Mumbo: redstone builds everyone should know.
Me: doesn't know a single one...
I knew them all but I don't remember how to build them because I haven't played Minecraft in like 8 years lol
I just didn't know the tnt one

Don't worry, never too late to learn. I only know the dispenser one from the chicken farms and I recently learned the impulse sorting system. I wanna try out the elevator though. Might have to visit the ODEA website.
@@laartje24 LOL I've been playing this game for 9 yrs and I'm still this bad at redstone
The kids growing up on this game are going to be such great engineers.
If only the engineering courses at a university level could be as simple and ideal as in minecraft...
@@a.b3203 Just simulate the university courses within Minecraft. It's Turing-complete after all.
This is amazing, i will use sk much of this!
"I make fairly complicated Redstone contraptions"
*I think that's a bit of an understatement*
I would love to see a book like "Mumbo's Guide to avoid simplicity" or something where he shows his best Redstone machines and how to build them, Id Buy 2 at least.
I was watching this to pass the time and none of the redstone builds really made sense to me despite the explanation. However, the smart piston was the one that looked extremely simple and easy to do - so I decided to try it out. I’m building a funky floating farm that’s 25x25 and three blocks deep and I got the surface part done but I needed to get the two layers of blocks underneath. I made a piston and the redstone torch and grabbed some powder and I attempted it - it actually worked! I was so shocked I don’t even know why but I was and I was overjoyed too bc I’ve never ever _ever_ done any redstone anything. It always seemed too complicated and too confusing for my puny brain so I never attempted anything. But this is the first redstone thing I’ve ever built and seeing it actually work made me feel exceptionally happy, possibly even akin to how you, Mumbo, feel when you make a particularly complicated or funky redstone build and are about to test it and when you do test it and it works, you’re just full of joy. I got to experience that!!!! And I’m incredibly happy about it! I know the smart piston is tiny, it’s something probably a lot of people know how to build and use and there’s many more complicated redstone builds out there, but I didn’t know of this one. I do now. And it just feels amazing! Maybe I’ll learn more redstone builds, but for now I’m extremely content with just this. Thanks so much Mumbo!!!!! Seriously. ♥️
I don’t know redstone but this is like the most useful channel ever
Note: Smart pistons can't push transparent blocks.
what about glass?
@@igameidoresearchtoo6511 That all depends on... What do you think? Is GLASS transparent?
What about 1.17 tinted glass, it is transparent but it does not have the [IS_TRANSPARENT] tag it doesn’t let light through
P.s I don’t have a good PC so I can’t use snapshots.
@@draagedeh1983 what i meant is that are there any transparent blocks that can be moved? sorry but i have never done redstone in my entire 11 years on minecraft so i wouldnt know
@@igameidoresearchtoo6511 If you mean blocks that are considered transparent by the game, then no.
But, if you mean blocks that look transparent to us, then there’s the slime block. It looks transparent but is actually considered solid by the game and can be used with smart pistons

You're so good at explaining the builds
For the key card reader, you can make it even more impossible to replicate by using signed books. You'll obviously need a different amount of them since they only stack to 16, but because signed books have the name of the person who signed them, they cannot be replicated. They're also, in my opinion, more fun, because you can type much more.
I know you posted this a year ago, but I can't get this key card reader design to work. It looks so simple but it just doesn't put out a signal past the comparator, even though it should. is this design broken in 1.20 java?
Edit: I've figured something out, took me a while tho.
the trick is finding the breakpoint where one more item in the hopper procs the comparator
