All correct info except one note:
BTS started releasing solo albums in 2015 with their solo "mixtapes" which are not really traditional mixtapes but rather very high quality original albums which were released free for fans and include high quality MVs. There are 5 of those albums from the BTS rap line, RM, Agust D/Suga and j-hope.

Ha. Yes. Many thought this was Bruno Mars. But NO. It's BTS. It immediately went #1 on Billboard. Stayed there for weeks. Set records. First Korean group to Hit #1. It was their first Grammy nomination. And they performed it on the Grammys. The Pandemic was still on, so they taped it in Korea. But impressively, their art department recreated the Grammy stage look on their set so people thought they performed it live. The ending they filmed was a great surprise location. So YES. You found the famous BTS. And "Dynamite" is their Famous Song!!!! Their next 2 English songs hit #1 on Billboard too!

Many BTS fans (ARMY) won't have their 3 english songs in their top 20 because BTS has so many excellent songs that they composed themselves. One of my favourites (which also became a Billboard number one is "Life Goes On".
BTS has group songs, sub-unit songs, & solo songs, so I have several favourite Rap Line songs (the 3 rappers), favourite Vocal Line songs (the 4 vocalists), favourite solo songs for the 7 members. They have songs covering almost every genre starting from when they were a hip-hop group in 2013, you can listen to one song then another one and wonder if it's from the same group.
I hope you keep investigating the music of BTS, I'm sure you'll find a favourite song.

Hello. I may be one of the oldest member of the ARMY. I'm a 73 year old great grandma that watched the video Mic Drop just to see what the hype was all about. Boy was I surprised! I was hooked. They released this song after the pandemic shut everything down to give their fans a lift emotionally. This song was used in the commercial for a phone. They say this is their homage to Michael Jackson so that is why the dance moves look familiar. Also, check out their dance practice videos to see how hard they do work

You'll discover BTS do not sound like other K-pop. (Not that K-pop is really a sound, it's an industry.) BTS started as a hip hop group (RM and Suga were underground rappers before the group, the third rapper J-hope was a street dancer; and there are four vocalists) but over the last decade BTS have been incredibly diverse in their sounds. The three English songs were during the pandemic to cheer people up, so not the most typical. Try something like "On (kinetic manifesto)" and "Black Swan". They all have solo work too that is 10/10 and sound nothing like each other. It's a hell of a rabbit hole.

  • @minkeytalk1769

Dynamite isn't actually a fan favorite, but it is well known as it's fully in English.
    My favorites are:
    Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix)
    Idol
    Fake Love
    Blood Sweat and Tears
ON Kinetic Film Manifesto Come Prima
    Black Swan
    Microcosmos (live)
    Magic Shop (live)
    My favorite solos are:
    Daechwita
    Arson
    Joke
    Standing Next to you
    Serendipity
    Epiphany
    Promise
    Set me free
    Lie
    Persona
    Slow Dancing
They have so many styles. I suggest you start off watching and reacting to Taylor Mari's Guide to BTS. You will hear snippets of songs as well as get to know the boys.
    Happy listening 💜💜💜

BTS are kings for a reason. :)
They have set the new standards for the kpop industry, literally changing the landscape and trends of how companies and acts conduct themselves -- particularly online and in the US.
Dynamite was them having a bit of fun. But make no mistakes, they can go HARD.
With 400 songs at this point, their diversity of sound and talent is insane.
Depending on the kind of music you like.... check out:
    - Hiphop/rap - Mic Drop (a clap back at those who bullied them when they were industry underdogs)
    - EDM - Fire
    - Straight rap - Daechwita (solo from member SUGA, also known as Agust D)
    - Rock/rap/pop - Fake Love
    - Lyrical hiphop - Black Swan
    - Hype music - ON Kinetic Manifesto
    - Latin pop - Airplane Pt 2
    - Neo-soul - Singularity (solo by member V)
Some of their best songs don't have videos, but do have live performances or lyric videos.
They run the gamut from all sorts of rap abilities to all sorts of vocal beats.
Just when you think they've done it all, they do something else and it doesn't feel forced. It seems exactly like BTS.

    Thanks for this reaction.
Among ARMY, there is a saying that BTS finds you when you need them the most in your life. :)
If you like hip-hop and enjoy various genres of music, you have come to the right place. :)
BTS is consisting of three rappers and four vocalists. And all seven of them are excellent dancers. They do a wide variety of music, but basically they are rooted in hip-hop.
All seven members are participating in making their songs by writing, composing, and producing them.
BTS started with a small company that almost went bankrupt, so they have been very looked down and hated by Korean broadcasting stations and other K-pop fandom. So they have struggled from the beginning to prove themselves.
Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance, these three songs were released in English to give positive energy to people around the world during the pandemic caused by Covid-19. :)
Most of their songs are in Korean, and their music video provides subtitles in several languages, including English.
If you're interested in BTS' other songs, I highly recommend the music video and live performance of Spring Day and Mic Drop.
These two songs are totally different from each other, and you can feel the diversity of their music.
And I'd like to introduce the story of the iconic trilogy that led them to a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.
I think it would be good to follow the story line.
DNA: Joy of fateful love → Fake Love: Realizing that love was a lie → IDOL, The Truth Untold, Epiphany, Answer Love Myself: To love other people completely, you should love yourself first.
These are included in Love Yourself Trilogy.
The leader of BTS, RM's speech at the UN cannot be missed. He was only 24 years old at the time!
The lyrics of BTS' songs are based on their own experiences, and their albums are organic because they contain their growth narrative.
It will also be fun to listen to their albums in order and analyze them. :)
They make a wide variety of genres of music like Hip-hop, Ballad, R&B, pop, EDM, etc. I'm sure there're quite a few of their over 400 songs that suit your taste. :)
Oh, if you're interested in their lives, I'd like to recommend these two videos. :)

This video is provided with English subtitles.
Am I Wrong's lyrics are quite political and socially critical.
The lyrics of the song directly quoted a Korean politician as saying, "The people are dogs and pigs." (It means that the public is ignorant, so they in the high class just have to throw them some food and gossip and just keep them alive.)
Here is the lyrics video. :)
BTS (방탄소년단) - Am I Wrong (Color Coded Lyrics)
    czcams.com/video/pV6jpkbWHj0/video.htmlsi=IfFXW9AwG1P-h5ra
When BTS released this song (2016), Park Geun-Hye, the former president of South Korea, was the daughter of a dictator, and she also attempted dictatorship through media control.
BTS staged this performance a day after a media outlet revealed that the Park Geun-Hye government had blacklisted and penalized artists who criticized the government and did not listen to them.
And it also aired hours before the first candlelight vigil to impeach the Park Geun-Hye government.
Not only Am I Wrong, but because BTS released many songs criticizing Korean society(ex. Silver Spoon, Dope, Spine Breaker, etc...), many ARMYs and even other fandoms were worried that they would be blacklisted.
Since this was before BTS became a global star, the act could have been very dangerous for them. Nevertheless, they did this at the risk of being blacklisted.
Oh, the former president, Park was finally impeached in 2017, by the way. :)
Actually, BTS members have gone into 18 months of military service under Korean law.
After releasing a collaboration single, The Astronaut, with Coldplay, Jin, the oldest member, already enlisted about 15 months ago and is currently serving as an assistant in the Korean Army boot camp under Korean law.
And J-Hope joined the military about 11 months ago after releasing his solo album Jack In The Box and collaborating with J.Cole. J-Hope is also serving as an assistant to the Korean Army boot camp in a different unit from Jin. And on March 29 this year, his OST album, which features six songs, will be released along with a documentary of his passion for dance as one of BTS' main dancers and dance leader. :)
Suga released his solo album, D-Day, last year, and he sold out all of his world tours and ended successfully, and he joined the army, last September 22.
And V and RM joined the army on December 11, and Jimin and Jungkook joined the army together on December 12.
RM ,the leader of BTS, released his solo album, INDIGO, and another album will be released after joining the army.
Jimin released his first solo album, Face, last year, and the title track of the album, Like Crazy, became the first Korean male solo artist to reach the Billboard Hot 100.
V released his solo album, Layover, last September, and after joining the army, he recently appeared in the music video for Korean female solo singer IU's new song 'Love Wins All'. And just today, his digital single, FRI(END)S, has been released!
Jungkook, the youngest member, sang "Dreamers" in the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and his single "Seven" released last July became the second Korean male solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, and released his first solo album, GOLDEN.
Due to their military duty, BTS briefly stopped working on a group they had been working on for eight years, and have been focusing on solo work for the past year.
They promised their fan base, ARMY that each of them will grow further through solo projects and come back together in 2025 after completing their military service.
Three months from now, on June 12, Jin will return from the military, and J-Hope will also return to our side on October 17. Jin and J-Hope, who will be discharged first, will entertain ARMY until the other five members return in June 2025. :)
You can watch videos of their enlistment day on their official channel, BANGTANTV, and see the seven of them filled with trust and love. :)

BTS are kind of an anomaly in K-Pop. This is their first fully English pop song. Their Korean music is much more diverse. Also, BTS debuted as a Hip Hop Idol group in 2013. Try these songs. I might recommend RM of BTS's solo work. He's been working with some Korean groups that might be considered INDI. I can link some of those below. And a couple more BTS group songs.
    For hard hitting rap/hip hop, and R&B - SUGA aka Agust D of BTS solo work - D-Day;
For old school hip hop and upbeat funky melodic rap - J-Hope of BTS solo work Jack In The Box and Hope World mixtape, and his new documentary coming out about his hip hop dance journey, and a new release of an OST for the series. 6 tracks.
V of BTS has a new song out called Fri(end)s, and his album Layover is an R&B, Jazzy style, and he is our baritone with a wide vocal range, and very soulful and jazzy.
Then there is JIMIN, he's unique, with his synth pop track Like Crazy, and his hip hop/pop track with orchestral and choir in it. It's hard to describe, but it's hard hitting and JIMIN is amazing in it. The Dance is over the top. He has many great songs as well.
If you like pop rock like Coldplay, JIN's 'The Astronaut' would be good,
and our pop star of the group would be Jungkook. Standing Next To You, Seven feat. Latto, and Yes and No. He's collaborated with USHER on the remix of Standing Next To You, and 3D with Jack Harlow. There is also a remix of 3D with Justin Timberlake. I'll link you his live Times Square performance. He did five songs with 3 choreographies.
I think that should be enough to keep you busy for a while.

I just found you just now. I am commenting even before I hear your reaction. Welcome to the world of the very talented BTS. I wanted to give some background about this song. Because this song does NOT define them. They are true artists and musicians that compose and sing every genre. This is the first of 3 English speaking songs they wrote after the pandemic was kind of getting better. They chose to write a fun pop song for the world to share their optimistic outlook on life. You might as well experience the other 2. "Butter" and "Permission to Dance". But then go back and find out the depth of artistry they provide through lyrics and diverse compositions. You have about 11 years of content to explore. They started out as Hip Hop, but slowly evolved each year to match their personal growth and the changes in the music industry. I found them on February 24, 2020. They performed "On" on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. I had never heard of them. They performed at Grand Central Station in New York City to debut their new album "7". They "Blew me away". Being from the Musical Theatre background I KNEW what it took to pull off that Magnificent and Stunningly Breathtaking performance. I got on CZcams that night to find out all about them. I have consumed BTS content every day since then. There is not an official MV because it was on NBC. But some fan taped it on her TV. Check it out. Then to explore their diversity "Mic Drop" is a good choice as suggested. Then try "Black Swan", a completely different genre. Welcome. And Enjoy. If you keep watching BTS you'll hit 1,000 subs soon. We love watching new people open enough to find out all about them. Enjoy.

It's not the most typical BTS song. It was made during pandemic to cheer people up. It was made to be light and understandable for everyone. BTS covers many genres (BTS is the genre, basically) and they have hundreds of songs under their name, each is different than the other plus they're doing solo projects that are a treat. For the start, you might enjoy "Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix)", "On" (I suggest the Kinetic Manifesto version on YT), "Black Swan", "Blood, Sweat & Tears" and "Idol" (very afrobeat heavy). Remember to turn the captions on next time as most of their songs are in Korean and BTS' lyrics usually go deep iwhen it comes to the meaning.
It's also important to mention that Kpop is an industry, not a genre. There's not many internationally known indie artists because of how this industry works. Before becoming the biggest band in the world, BTS was the ultimate underdog from a small label and they've stayed loyal to it. I would be more cautious in mentioning other groups. Kpop fandoms work in a very insular way. You have your faves, you respect some more and that's that. You don't wanna get yourself caught in the middle of a fandom war, really. When The bands that come to my mind when I think of a western indie style are The Rose, Xdinary Heroes and Balming Tiger but those aren't indie bands, they're signed to the big labels. I think that Rolling Quartz is actually an indie group. I don't listen to much of Kpop besides BTS but I like those bands (plus Stray Kids and Seventeen - both are great, but they don't have that indie vibe from the songs that I know).

BTS does so many genre's that they transcended KPOP a long time ago, in my opinion. They also write, compose, produce most of their music which doesn't happen a lot in KPOP. They did not write this one - they released it during the pandemic to cheer people up, along with Butter and Permission to Dance (their other 2 English songs). The rest of their music is a mix of Korean, Korean & English and Japanese. These guys are nothing less than phenomenal. They have toured the world numerous times, always to sold out crowds in stadiums and arenas. My recommendation, to give you a taste of their versatility, would be Black Swan, On Kinetic Manifesto and Mic Drop. Thanks for watching.

  • @Maraaha55
    @Maraaha55 Před 4 měsíci +3

Another person probably already said this, but this is one of the only 3 all-English songs BTS made. They released these during lockdown purely to cheer up folk all over the world who (like them, actually) were struggling hard. I hated these songs at first, but since then, sharing them with my friends and singing along, I have come to like them - in fact just as much for BTS' generosity in making songs so different from their usual deep and thought-provoking music. What these songs share with other BTS music is very high production standards, and many many special messages/jokes specially included to share with fans.
Despite western misunderstandings, Kpop is not really a genre but an industry. "Suga, asked about whether Kpop would be an accurate definition of BTS' genre, said
‘I’m a little bit wary of that but I think rather than approach Kpop as a genre, a better approach would be “integrated content”.’ …
‘Kpop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach Kpop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.’ "
    Metro 28 10 2019
There are literally hundreds of Korean bands, most of whom are very hardworking, talented and skilled - but for me, BTS outshines all of them. The reason? BTS songs - even when they seem silly, funny, or even trite - are always layered, not only musically, but in the meanings they present. I hated some, and was deeply disappointed ("here we are, the kind of silly nonsense we had in 70s, and just what westerners think Kpop is ... lowest common denominator when it comes to a message!), until I found out the real meanings and why they were made.... a little research, and I discovered they were about either profound self-sacrifice, or were cutting satires on modern economic conditions for young Koreans. But they just sound like (and are) fun! I like that duality, but honestly, in BTS it's the norm.
So, thank you for dipping your first toe in BTS. You will have heard this on ads etc, but you will probably never hear much BTS in the US media, because they refuse to play it. Because BTS do not pay back-handers to DJs and radio stations. With a fanbase numbering 49million (official members, unofficial likely perhaps 90 million) why would they? I hope you continue to explore: trust me, this song is far deom the bst, though it is fun. Look at their Korean songs, but always put on the CC, and be ready to watch more than once. Because once is never enough!

This is one of only 3 fully English songs that were for cheering up people due to covid they are not the BTS norm. They are the biggest global group with over 1,000 awards, they hold 31 Guinness world records and have 5 Grammy nominations. They are a group of 7 Song Writers, 7 Composers, 7 Producers that can also dance. They are 3 Rapper all from the underground Hip Hop scene and 4 Vocalists. They are now in their 11year as group. They are based in Hip Hop and R & B but use whatever genre they like and can mix them in amazing ways.
The solo have songs within BTS albums and they also have solo albums as they see it as artist development which they take back to the group. Basically 7 solo artist who are The Super Group.
The only rap music I listen to was J Cole but my favourite Rapper now are of course J Cole, and the 3 Rappers of BTS eg RM, Suga(aka Agust D) and J Hope.
I'm a music lover of many different genre's of music and a musician and vocalist so BTS are a dream come true when I found them. They have well over 300 songs touching on nearly all the genre's of music I enjoy. They sing and rap about extremely uncommon topic's in kpop and most music. They rap and sing about where they are in their personal journeys about mental health, societal issue's, they reference great works of art, books, Psychology and much much more. They are extremely versitial and have colaberation's with other's such as their friend Steve Aokia, Halsey, Nick Minjin, J Cole, Coldplay. Jungkook of BTS did a colab with Central Cee just resently also had Latto feature on one of his solo song, and Jack Harlow on another. While Jimin was recently on the song for the last Fast n Furious film. J Hope featured J Cole on is solo 'On the Streets.'
Suga (aka Agusts D) is the first Rapper to sell over 1million physical copies of a rap album eg 'D-Day' on it's release date. And was until Drake's last tour the only Rapper to hold the title for the biggests grossing tour as a solo Rapper. He run out of time to do more as they are now all doing their Military service and won't be all together until June 2025 but one member is back in this June while another who's new album comes out in April will be back in October this year. They maybe doing their military service but they are have prepared a lot of content to be slowly released until they are re united in June 2025. We have V's new solo song coming out in a few days we are wondering if it will be jazz based as he's a lover of Jazz, and like the other members they are also musicians he's a saxophone player.
So much more I could type but I think give you an idea of what and who they are/do.

My recommendation is Fake love and black swan

  • @NanciBK
    @NanciBK Před 4 měsíci +2

BTS is the pinnacle of KPop and surpasses and doesn't fit within the industry in many ways. The industry is now shifting to emulate them. They are bigger than all of KPop combined. No other group comes anywhere close in terms of sales, streaming, or depth of artistry. If KPop is a pie, BTS owns more than half the pie and every other group makes up the rest of the pie. They are global artists who regularly achieve songs that are #1s on charts in more than 100 countries. That's why the views are so big on their music.
KPop is an industry rather than a genre, which includes audio visual aspects as a huge part of the presentation, so choreography, fashion, and music videos are all an important part of that package. But BTS adds incredibly deep lyricism on important subject matter and an indie label extreme underdog start, plus a depth of character, sincerity and very real and deep connection with their fans, among other things. Roll all of it into 7 artists who are among the best songwriters, composers, producers, singers, rappers, dancers, and performers in the world, and it's an unbeatable and not reproducable combo.

BTS covers a lot, a lot of musical genres. They actually starts with hiphop, instead of pop. So, many ppl, incl themselves, said their genre is BTS, not k-pop. They are wayyyy so much bigger than kpop or any kpop group you'll ever find. Once you get into them, other artist would find it difficult to compete.
And bc they already have more than 10 years doing various musical genres, there's always something for everybody in their music. Delve into them, and you'll find a treasure trove of endless amazing music.
Actually Dynamite, Butter, and Permission To Dance are the only fully English songs they have as a group. And because these 3 English songs are deliberately set with a happy-easy listening vibe to ease people's mind and the gloomy atmosphere during the pandemic, they do not really represent BTS' usual discography.

I really like your vibe and your smile! BTS has about 4 fully English songs in their rep of >300 songs. They are absolutely lovely individuals and it's a whole journey to discover them. I hear you like hiphop, indie etc. Bts has 3 rappers and there's a lot of hiphop influence in their music. There's not many people that won't like their music.
Their dedicated fanbase is called ARMY. I am army myself aswell, along with over 40 million people in the world. BTS is the biggest band of kpop and the biggest band in the world.
Army wouldn't often list Dynamite as their fav song. BTS does a lot of their own producing/writing (all 7 members are songwriters/composers/producers) and they have many amazing gems in the korean language. Their lyricism, symbolism and inspiration is amazing. They draw inspiration from art, books, psychology, society etc.
Dynamite is the song that blew up most though, its a disco-funk pop song made to lighten the mood during covid and make people dance at home and give some happiness.
I hope you have a good kpop journey. Some other boygroups to check out could be:
    - Stray kids, they are currently the biggest boy group after bts and have a great rapline. They are known for their insane transitions in music videos and their mixing about 5 genres in every song. They produce 99% of their music themselves aswell
    - Ateez, very fun group with great dancing capabilities, the best 4th gen vocalist, a lot of influence in their own production and an overall storyline that can only be explained by rocket scientists (basically they are pirates and there is time travel, alternate universes etc). They are known for their hype songs.
    - Seventeen, also self producing group of 13 members, with great songs, known for their in sync choreography.
    Have fun! 💜💜

Hi, I just found you here now. I’m a long time ARMY (Acronym for BTS fan). Before I even watch your reaction, this song and the other 3 full English songs as I see already mentioned, are not necessarily fan favs but have a bop. They are the only K-pop group that I’m aware of that sings full English, Japanese, and Full/mixed w English or Full Korean songs. Since it was during and just before the end of the pandemic, it was fun to see something to lift people’s spirits. They usually compose, produce, and write their own lyrics and/or rap. I see many suggestions esp since you said you like beats, bars. I’m not going to push you to like them and listen to them when I heard you mention some other groups. The reason many ARMY or new ARMY start liking them goes beyond their choreography, musicality. It’s their messages in the vocal lyrics, rap, and their underdog story. I do like the English, but prefer their native Korean ones more. Just my opinion. Maybe it’s bc so many reactors don’t see how well they are with choreography, sets, before they watch and can enjoy the English ones! Each English one has a basic theme but is not deep in lyrics. I know I really needed to hear something like this during the pandemic! 😊
I’m not going to request you watch their guide backstory and hope that you enjoy, choose some of the suggestions and hope you start to really like their diversity. We try to follow their lead and not put pressure on anyone, help, and maybe explain. I’m not 100% certain since I only follow BTS now but I think Black Pink debut around the same time or earlier, and New Jeans is a newer group. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
    Subbed and enjoy! 💜🇨🇦

Thanks for giving BTS a listen! 😊 Their official mvs will usually be found on the YT channels BangtanTV and Hybe.
Lol! A few other reacters have thought this was from Bruno Mars! You might find you've already heard Butter as well. Their third English song, Permission to Dance, didn't get as much airplay, so it might be new to you.
Some other songs that you might like: Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix), DNA, Jump, Autumn leaves (no mv, might have to listen to audio or a live version), Idol, and ON (Kinetic Manifesto version). From their solo work, you might like More by J-Hope, Still Life by RM, Rainy Days by V, Like Crazy by Jimin, Epiphany by Jin, Seven by Jungkook, and Daechwita by Suga (aka Agust D). There are many, many others and they fall under multiple genres.
They are currently all serving in the military. Most of the members released solo albums or songs while they were waiting to enlist (some solo work was while they were active as a group). The group officially went on hiatus before the first member (Jin) enlisted, but will be active again when all the members have finished their service. Jin will be the first one out and that'll be in June 2024. J-Hope will be October 2024. The rest will be in June 2025.

They only have about 3 songs totally in English - many of their songs have some phrases in English but mostly in Korean, so you will need to turn on Closed Captions for most songs. It is worth it though. I am now falling in love with rap and hiphop that I have never been interested in before.

BTS have the best bond and make amazing music which is why I honestly prefer them over other k-pop groups plus they make so much amazing music in so many different genres! 💜 Army is the best fandom!! Also since you like alternative, an album you should listen to is everything is alive - slowdive

Their 3 English songs (dynamite, butter, permission to dance) were released during the pandemic. So you can expect the happy poppy sound.
I'm a 52yo mom and my teenage kids introduced me to BTS. I don't have preferred genre but I think I have soft spot for rock/soft rock but I listen to BTS a lot. I think I know more songs from them than any artists 😅.
I'm a simple person, if I like the melody, then I like the song. Lyrics usually comes second. Nobody's blaming you for your music preference. You do you 👍☺.
I know a lot of people reluctant to listen to BTS because they're mainstream now so people expect their music is pop but the have multiple genres. You can listen to the samples I attached. It is from their most streamed songs on Spotify including solo and collabs.

BTS currently inactive since all of them are in the military for their mandatory military service but they still continue to release contents for their fans.

As for other groups you can't go wrong with anything by Stray Kids. They have such a diverse style that they've created their own genre! Try God's Menu, Venom, La La La La, Easy, and Freez.
    Happy listening!!
