As a ford guy, it hurts to say this, and I never thought I’d see the day, but the last 6 years, Dodge has been using those Austrian made ZF-8 transmissions and I’ve heard good things about them. I know the Ford/GM made 10R80/10L80 has serious software issues. Also despite the 5.7L Hemi V8 having that stupid cylinder deactivation, it’s still much simpler, cheaper, more reliable and more durable than those crappy ecoboosts V6 engines. Those things go out at 50,000 if you’re lucky. And they cost literally twice as much. And that’s just when the engine fails. The turbos themselves mess up too. Not to mention aside from all that, they have an internal water pump for some reason. So if your water pump went out by itself, it’ll leak coolant in the engine and destroy it. Whereas a normal car if it fails, it’ll just overheat. You can pull over, tow it to a shop, and change it. As long as you didn’t drive it while overheating too much, it’ll be fine. The second a water pump goes out on a Ford duratec of any kind made after 2013 or so, it’ll destroy the engine. The Durango will have more little BS problems like the DRLs and electrical stuff, but that’s fairly cheap fixes. Ecoboosts Engines and modern Ford transmissions suck. Plus the Durango just looks cooler. I know that’s not important but still. I think the explorer would look a lot better if it weren’t for the oversized, obviously fake, a-symmetrical with the headlights grille.

There's a reason and it's all about Nav. When the map is on, portrait gives you more information about what is ahead than landscape. Not a fan of the "tablet look", but it's very functional and the discrete controls make access common functions easy.

I traded in a 2019 Ford Sport, for a 2020 Ford Explorer ST. This truck is leagues better than the old platformed Durango. I have a Livernois tune on mine which makes the ST a beast. I also have Steeda lowering springs and rear sway bar. Also a must do for all Explorer ST owners within the first year of ownership... Attend the ST SUV Experience, sponsored by Ford Performance. Hands down the best thing you can do to allow you to tap the performance and handling characteristics of this truck. And this truck will out handle that Durango all day. Who cares about towing? Give me the performance and luxury any day. And this guy is the first one to say the Durango has a better interior than the Explorer, which I highly disagree with...

We drove both to replace my wife's Explorer Sport, so we were leaning Ford. I really, really wanted to like the Durango RT with the Hemi, but I was seriously disappointed. The V8 makes great enginey noises, but it just doesn't have the seat of the pants feel. I didn't like that for the same price the Durango didn't have a front camera, power fold rear seats, no panoramic sunroof (just the front seats got the sunroof), but nail in the coffin was the lack of power compared to the weight. If the Durango was lighter, it would be fine.
Picked up a 2020 ST with 10k miles and have only had it a little while and no issues (I read some have transmission issues, but I think it shifts fine). The exhaust note in sport mode is great! It is so much more fun to drive. You don't fight the weight of the vehicle like the Durango.

My gf has the new Infiniti Q60 and it feels underpowered, not as much ride height, much lighter and the "premium" stereo ins't well balanced plus the base is lacking. I also don't understand why the Q60 like the Maxima only has two sound adjustments for base and treble but not mids. Also, the new Q60 and Pathfinder lack a button inside to pop the gas tank cover. I have test driven the new Explorer and still prefer my Durango. It handles like a dream around the city and is super smooth, stable as well as quiet at highway speeds.

Should have reviewed the Durango with Tow-n-Go... much better brakes (Brembo 6-piston), rowdy performance exhaust, and active Bilstein dampers--all without having to buy an SRT. That would have been a much better comparison of what "mainstream" offerings will get you.

You don't mention that the ST has more power and weighs 800 pounds LESS. That Durango is a BEACHED WHALE. The Explorer is more fun to drive, and it handles better that the Durango (heck, about anything handles better than the Durango). The passenger volume of the Explorer is 152.7 Cu Ft vs 140.3 for the Durango. This means Rover doesn't have to be in your face on long trips. The front of the Durango might be sportier looking than a stock Durango, but it's not a good looking vehicle, it's OK.

The one is a 10 year old And the other a couple years old. Yes the ST is the faster the RT But this is not the top line. Dodge has to more engines that will smoke the ST any day . The 2021 tow and go has adaptive suspension and the the SRT and the Hellcat Durango’s have them too so handling is not better on the ST. I understand you’re probably a Ford fan , the Durango is not just an OK vehicle .
