Everytime I listen to this record, I am just in awe of how one man (Kevin) could've single handedly produced this and composed this in a time when there was no reference point for this sound. Genius.
When You Sleep is such a great track - I love how everything just elevates at the end. Hits hard! Great reaction as always. Also - interesting fact: The dual vocals on When You Sleep is all Kevin Shields, it’s just his voice pitched up!
When you mentioned that the male and female vocals were moving together in unison, the first band I thought of was X from Los Angles. Exene and John Doe (I think) founded this kind of vocal effect. Love your videos!!!
It rarely gets mentioned how awesome the bass is on some of this. I vaguely remember the name Treblecharger. One interesting thing about MBV’s music, as opposed to a lot of shoegaze, is that there is very little reverb or delay. Just waves of distortion and liberal whammy bar usage.
