  • 🎥 Video Description:
Welcome to "How to Repair"! In this video, we're tackling a common washing machine issue: a persistent ticking noise emanating from the motor. Have you ever wondered what's causing that maddening tick and why your washing machine drum refuses to spin? Well, you've come to the right place!
    www.how-to-repair.com/help/wa...
The ticking noise is often misunderstood, with many mistakenly thinking it's a bra wire caught in the drum. But in reality, it's the motor's armature lugs cutting into the carbon brushes, causing electrical shorts and, in some cases, blowing the circuit board.
In this comprehensive guide, we'll take you through the step-by-step process of diagnosing the problem. It could be one of three common issues: a motor that has gone open circuit, worn-out carbon brushes, or a malfunctioning circuit board. We'll delve into each possibility, so you can accurately identify the problem in your machine.
We'll demonstrate real-world troubleshooting and the repair process, including motor removal and replacement, carbon brush inspection, and troubleshooting circuit board problems. Plus, we'll shed light on the pressing issue of built-in obsolescence in the appliance industry, leading to unnecessary waste.
By the end of this video, you'll gain a deeper understanding of your washing machine's motor issues, equipping you to tackle similar problems in the future. Whether you're a dedicated DIY enthusiast or simply curious about your appliances, this video is for you! 📺🔧

Great video. I am disgusted that an otherwise good machine has to be scrapped because of the sealed drum. We talk of the "green" movement or circular economy but it does not seem to apply to the washing machine manufacturers.

Yes, I totally agree with you, but at least this individual is trying to make us a better planet because all the parts come off this machine will be available to other people to purchase www.how-to-repair.com and I will do a disassembly video on this machine as well to explain all the working components and how to take the machine apart. @deebee3901 please remember to subscribe to our channel as that really helps us czcams.com/users/shortse432SAb2g08 Thanks, Paul 👍

Good job! It's a pity as usual that the bearings are not accessible. I think Beko suffer from motor problems, because I once saw one with the exact same problem as the one in the video, and it needed a full motor replacement.
Strangely enough, we had a Haier HW70-1282, whose brushes went bad after just 3 years, but it didn't burn anything. It just would not turn and displayed a motor error.

Excellent diagnosis. Indeed, sparking on commutator is either caused by raised com bars or short in the winding of the armature.

If brushes were changed this might not of happened. Thanks for commenting

The way to combat companies that use built in obsolescence is not to buy their products.
I now use my local laundrette machines for both washing and drying. It is actually cheaper than having my own machines. I only use the dryers during the bad winter months. Other times I use my free wind and solar 11meter(washing line)dryer.
My local laundrette charges £7 for the largest machine and that's equivalent to 4 loads in a standard domestic machine.
Only additional cost to me is wash tabs/liquid/powder , fabric conditioner and "occasionally" using the dryers for which £3 is usually enough for the same quantity of items to be dried.
I got chatting with the guy that owns the laundrette one day and he told me that the machines that he used are so reliable that in fifteen years he has only ever had one machine go down which he fixed himself at less than a quarter of the cost had he called out an engineer. He also does all of his own routine service work.
    Quids in I would say!
There's gold in them there hills👍😎👍

I can 100% vouch for what you're saying, as I own a laundry in Portugal www.algarvelaundry.com i use the ipso boiler fed machines but I've run them off solar water. These machines will go on for 30+ years if well maintained but they do cost an excess of £2000 a machine. With over 3 million machines been bought in the United Kingdom alone per annum. You see why they become so greedy. If it fails they make money, but the manufacturer is not interested in them being repaired because they do not make money only the engineer who repairs it. So if they make the parts hard to get difficult to take off an economic to repair, all they are doing is sending you back to the shop yet, one manufacturer may own multiple brands to examples being Whirlpool owns Hotpoint Ariston indesit creda. Plus others
Electrolux is aeg and Zanussi, plus others. Thank you very much for taking the time to comment @allsortsabouteverything please remember to subscribe to our channel as that really helps us czcams.com/users/shortse432SAb2g08 Thanks, Paul 👍

Will try what you have said on this for my mothers beko machine. I was changing the cycle to spin and drain after it had finished the previous cycle and it flashed and tripped the circuits. Water works but it does not count down or spin. Will try to check motor and motherboard

7:25 A more technical name for that board would be "DC module" or "AC to DC converter board" as that's what it does, it converts AC coming from the main PCB to DC that goes to the motor (the motor is being run on DC for a few reasons despite being a universal motor). It is found in high-spec models as in >=8 kg models, >=7 kg 1300 rpm models and a 6 kg 1600 model.

I had the same problem with creda super speed energy save 1200 over probably about 15 years ago I didn’t know back then as I was young that my brushes were worn and it damaged the armature in the motor and it blew up!
Unfortunately I couldn’t find the right hotpoint motor to fit it at the time and didn’t want to buy a brand new motor as the machine was about 8 years old then so I scrapped it and had a zanussi jetsystem 1000 for years after… that thing was a tank and refused to die lol.

@@How-to-repair It is possible to replace the bearings in the combined tank. You need to cut the tank, replace the bearings and then weld the tank. We have been doing this in Poland for years, and it significantly reduces repair costs.

Actually, I've just bought a Hisense Inverter, and it has a splittable tub, so NOT all manufacturers are "building in obsolescence." That said, I don't believe machines are built to last, as most are built down to a price.
