      No he’s a Sentient Volatile

    • @elpablo3344
      @elpablo3344 Před 2 lety +56

      The vial Crane was forced to drink by the mother (in a nutshell) turns people into Sentient Volatiles, it was even hinted by the Mother herself that he’ll become what she became when she says “maybe you’ll understand when you see it with my eyes” before she forced the vial into Crane, which obviously foreshadows that he will turn into a Sentient Volatile, forgot to mention the mother also drank the vial, which led her to becoming a Sentient Volatile herself, so that also confirms it. What people got completely mixed up is Techland reused the night hunters howl to make crane’s sentient volatile form sound more intimidating, but that brought people to believe he’s a hunter, even though the subtitles said “volatile scream”. It is pretty obvious it is a reused asset specifically for intimidation purposes, they also reused the demolishers breathing for the hunter as well, Techland knew exactly what they were doing… this was no mistake! You know how btz players are… they’re too lazy to do their research because they think a single sound confirms everything whereas there’s so much more proof Crane is a Sentient Volatile. What they also try to compare is the clothing. They’re actually very different, Crane wears a light grey shirt and light blue jeans, the hunter wears a brownish shirt and dark blue skinny jeans, in the final cutscene, you can see crane is wearing the survivor outfit which is a red and black coloured outfit. If the hunter were canon there’d definitely be more than one hunter, each hunter/player has a different play style, mutated or not. Just because it’s wearing the same clothes don’t mean it’s the only one, all the volatiles, demolishers, toads, and bombers look the same and wear the same clothes, yet there’s more, it’s just Techland’s laziness, can’t be bothered to make more designs….
      Think about it, Like I said before, the hunter isn’t canon so there’s no possible way he’d turn into one, and the vial changes people into Sentient Volatiles, it was a failed military experiment, The Mother even said (in a nutshell) that in the day Sentient Volatiles still have their humanity, whilst in the dark, they lose their humanity and volatile instincts start taking over, now with the hunter; Techland said it’s a seperate mutation and was only made for a gamemode, and that it has nothing to do with the story, nothing more and nothing less… Hunters aren’t another possible transformation effect from the vials, the vials do the same thing and the effects and transformations are the same, if the vials were different then the acolytes wouldn’t trust the vials and would’ve told crane not to take em, the hunter has no humanity whatsoever… Sentient Volatiles still have theirs, that’s the difference! The acolytes sounded pretty sure that they were cures which means they knew they have the same chemicals, the mother proved them wrong that they are poisons, but that still doesn’t change the fact that they’re still the same…

      @@elpablo3344 yeah, not to mention, the argument that Kyle crane has abilities like the hunter is a very invalid argument, as viruses themselves are not sentient, nor conscious, and cannot decide what they do to their host, they work with what they have, genetics. So the hunter isn't cannon, and probably some random guy, who spent enough time in pure darkness, and had the right genetic code for the virus to rapidly mutate him into the hunter.

    Now, a week after dying light 2's release, you can actually tell that they have made Volatiles more resistant to UV. In the first game, the UV flashlight and glowsticks made volatiles step back and tried to get away. They also burned up in a bright orange. And as long as UV was on them, they'd keep trying to avoid it. In dying light 2 it only makes them recoil for about 2 seconds then they go right back to attacking you with or without UV.

    Something about the volatiles that is one of their spookiest features, if not the spookiest- is the really really good sound design that went into their footsteps. They sound heavy yet agile, kinda gross and fleshy at the same time. It is exactly what a volatile would sound like. But not only that, it's how they sound relative to the player. Something about it is so grounded in reality, it really does sound like something hyperrealistic that's happening irl, I've almost taken my headphones off a few times when I hear it. Once I learned that years ago, I had a pretty good start on completely fresh saves. Spent about 5 hours farming lock picks and ambulances. Had a decent amount of crafting supplies too so I could make something in pinch if I made a mistake as I was leveling. I mean, not that you can’t just play normally, but after years, sometimes you just want push through the first couple of quests. Also, I’d definitely farm hidden supply drops and gun spawns and put em in my cache for mid to late game enemies and quick money.

    I kinda hope that they change the design so that the volatile is invulnerable unless under some kind of UV light cause as deadly as they are in groups at night it’s ludicrously easy to go to town on one with a shotgun.
    Having them only be briefly vulnerable when under UV light would definitely help emphasize running over fighting at night even into the late game.

      @@rockhoggaming it’s honestly better this way. The guns in the first game, were either overpowered or underpowered. There wasn’t an in-between and it ruined the gameplay sometimes, not to mention the sound of the weapon would make every viral within a 20 mile radius charge you. So considering there wasn’t a chase sequence in the first game, it would make using your weapons at night obsolete pretty much in the second game. But that’s just my opinion.

    About Volatiles, it's also known at this point that the virus in DL2 is THV, a totally different variant of the Harran Virus. So it's not just a lot of time to evolve, but it's also well, a new strain altogether which likely allowed this to happen. What's really cool in DL2 as well is you can actually somewhat see this progression of Virla to Volatile in higher levels. Virals start looking less human and more grey in appearnce like the Volatile.

    The thing that's so scary about volatiles compared to things such as the fallout deathclaw, is that there's more than one and they can climb stuff. In fallout you can hide on top of stuff and shoot them to death, but in dying light they can climb to basically anywhere on the map besides some certain spots. A single volatile isn't really that scary since you can stun lock them with the UV light, then hit them, and repeat. But they're so terrifying because there's never just one.

In the first one, the main thing was just to swing first and watch for that damn pounce attack they had. In DL2, they have way more attacks, they take way more damage. It’s funny because when I first started playing the 2nd, I was wondering why I never saw them, like ever. There’s a volatile in maybe 1-2 missions. It never occurred to me in my first 8-10 hours of gameplay that the chase level is what triggered them to come out. It wasn’t until I finally fought one that I understood why they’re more on the “rare” side, unless you’re looking for them that is.

And by the time I got to the areas that did not have these issues I was on shotting them.. So that was kind of a problem for me. It was still a cool enemy just ruined due to bugs/exploits and then later on.. How frail they are later in the game when those issues are not there.. Even then though I found they where not hard to evade at night even without the exploits in another run.. So.. To me the scare factor should go away quickly even if its your first time playing, and you figure out its harder for them to surround you and get you compared to them actually posing a real threat.. Something that should be quick to figure out.

    6:40 if some volatiles evolve into special infected that would mean some of them become weaker? 🤔

    i remember how terrified i was when i first saw the volatiles, i was horrified yet so excited and immersed, dying light might be imo the best/biggest sleeper hit in gaming history - a game no one knew was coming let alone expected to fall in love with - 8 years later and no other game has come close to accomplishing what this game has done, in terms of parkour/exploration and sandbox zombie survival, not even the sequel unfortunately which is devastating because DL1 is my favourite zombie game of all time
