Come back Titli it’s been too long
If you let the vinegar cool down before adding to the onions you will get a much crunchier pickled onion. I tend to find that the hot or warm vinegar softens the onions.
This month's bonus video!
Titli titli can I do some for my family pretty please?
Love your voice! Very soothing.
Awesome Thanks for that. I'ts autumn here in Australia right now.
Lots of onions. Cant wait to give this a go.
Thank you again for the fun vid
I am going to look for pickling vinegar here in the states. Love your videos, you're the best. Thanks.
you make it look so easy Titli

Thank you for sharing this recipe Titli.Your recipes make things seem easy and not so difficult to understand.I am in Scotland, and I have no time for fancy stuff that asked you to buy half a shop load of ingredients.Do you think you could do one for beetroot?
Pickled onions make my mouth watering when I see it, or smell I can add that
You are awesome titli ,you inspired me to cook :)
i love your videos titli but i worked at an onion factory so i have learned to absolutely hate pickled onions lol........keep up the amazing work
your amazing!
Hi dear thanks for the recipe, just a query can we do the same with spring onions, also adding hot vinegar will it not cook the veggies and make them soft please clarify. Thanks
thanks auntie. great tip with the boiling water to peel the onions
Yum.
Cheer's Titli, your the best
Your fabulous x
Want to make these. I live in the stated. Where can I find pickling onions. My locol grocery has no idea what I'm talking about. Can they be got online. All I find when I search are seeds
I've watched a lot of videos about how to pickle onions, and IMHO nearly all of them are awful. This is easily the best one I've seen, so thanks! I'll use this method.
Yeah I pickled onions last fall, I wish I knew your trick for getting the skins off at that time. I still have 2 pints in my downstairs pantry along with some pickled cauliflower. Don't ya just hate when you purchase commercially canned mixed pickles? They hardly put any tiny whole onions or cauliflower in them. Ploughman's lunch sounds good. Now I better learn how to make Irish soda bread for that. I wonder if you can show us how to make soda bread and do a classic plate up of ploughman's lunch. I have only seen that on a show about a restaurant/irish pub that was going through a renovation make over and it looks yummy.
I am confused. Do I boil the vinegar as some recipes instruct or not? I love pickles and would rather have picked than chocolate.
Lovely recipe and by the way I love Ur hair colour..Good day and happy weekend
Oh, I am definitely making these. Do these need to be kept in the fridge once they're done, or just place in the fridge after having been opened? Thanks, Titli.
Thaneii Store the unopened jars in a cool, preferably dark place. I don't put the jar in the fridge at all, even after opening. The onions will go slightly soft after a few weeks but to be honest by that time I'm down to the last one or two in the jar :-)
Thank you so much for letting me know.
Yum yum!
Can you make a video for making pickled eggs?
i would assume a similar process, take the shell off boiled eggs, add heated vinegar until above the contents, seal n wait a few months
?
Just wondering, why use hot vinegar?
Nice name. Titli means butterfly and it's common girl's name at our place. Thanks for your delicious recipe.
the weird thing is in my area the only pearl onions they sell is for growing not cooking i guess their making us do the extra steps to save money lol thanks for the recipe my dad loves pickled onions and good recipes are hard to find
Titli what is a "ploughman's lunch"? I've heard it mentioned before but have no idea what it is
Cindy C Chunk of cheese, chunk of bread, pickled onions, chutney. Awesome!
Titlis Busy Kitchen please make pickled onion chutney
What does salting do?
This is the first vid I've watched of u
Hi titles I followed your recipe last month..I have never pickled before. On having a look at them the top ones seem to look a very dirty colour. Can you please tell me if they will be ok?I or you can answer my question.i am a bit scared I have done something wrong.Thankyou
+Wee Kate They will darken over time
Can you do a video about a white chocolate muffins
Good video. But I'm in the states. And that pickling vinigar that is ready made is no ware to be gotten. Can I get it shipped from there ??? Or where can I buy online
You can make your own. To regular malt vinegar add a teaspoon or two of mustard seed, coriander seed and whole peppercorns. Add a couple of Bay leaves, and a good cup and a half of granulated sugar. Heat this up until the sugar is dissolved and leave to stand overnight. There's your pickling vinegar. Shallots are excellent for this or maybe scallions as well.
🙏👍
Hello, Titli. Well, hello, Titli. It's so nice to have you back where you belong. You're lookin' swell, Titli ...
Excellent. Does this work with any kind of onion?
***** In principle yes, but it works best with small onions.
It's worth an experiment. Great idea.
Hot vinegar makes for soggy onions
Titillating! Pickled Onions are addictive, highly addictive
Could I use pearl onions in this recipe? I don't think I've ever seen pickling onions here in the US.
Jess Oest Any small onion will do.
Hi! How long should I wait before I can eat them? :D
Wait a couple of months if you can, six months would be perfect.
Would anyone know what variety pickling onions typically are?
+chris anders (chris anders seeds) lol thanks, well at least I had the proper vegetable. The variety I picked up in the supermarket last time were quite strong. It made for terrible pickled onions so thats why I wad wondering.
Boiling water makes them easy to peel .... as long as you don't mind compromising the quality
I'd rather spend 10 minutes peeling them myself
khoda hafez 😀
Peeled onions hint just in time for a major onion-peeling operation. Saved again Titli!
Hi Titlis
i am vietnamese and usually at tet holiday we eat this onion
While i do like making things from scratch I would find this a bit of a chore to be honest especially as pickled onions are so cheap in any case. By the time you’ve forked out for the spiced vinegar and the onions there’s probably not much saving.
Did titli get a tan :o
I love her English madness. Though strangely enough, she sounds just like Mat of Techmoan. Is it just a Manchester thing?
Trying to find pickling onions in Canada and can't find them? Do they have another name?
Try Shallots or pickling onions.

This is my first video. I like her
Oh god.. Boxing day sandwiches..
Is there no greater pleasure?
Are "pickling onions" a special variety of onions or does it just mean they are smaller and white?
sumamme They are just small onions as far as I know. There is s special very small variety called Silverskin onions but I've never seen them in the stores for pickling.
I guess the Silverskins are what we call "Silberzwiebeln". Here in Germany you can get them sometimes at Farmers Markets but they are super expensive (about one Euro per 100 gramm). Have you ever tried pickling spring onions? You need small ones and they don't need boiling - just put them in a jar with boiling pickling vinegar. After one day in the fridge they are ready to eat and they are great with a Käsebrot mmmmmm
"Silberzweibeln" sounds about right :-) I've never tried pickling spring onions...
lov u
When I was a kid ( 7yrs) it was my job to peel and salt all the pickles ( could you imagine a girl of 7 doing that today? They would be scared of damaging their manicure!) . My dad used to get and enormous sack of them every year.... I was ridiculed for smelling of onions for days...we did our own spiced vinegar too, buckets steaming pans and jars everywhere!.. but the resulting golden globes of deliciousness were all worth it .. My kids still ask me to do them every year . The jars of beetroot have already disappeared..... so looks like I will have to get me some onions! Really there isn't much to it, people should just have a go....Your recipes are so simple and always so well explained... Thanks Titli.
grumpy poo When I was at university my mother would send me away in the autumn term with a large jar of homemade pickled onions. Happy memories. Problem is that they disappear all too quickly so this year I've made 4 large jars. I like to eat them by peeling the layers apart until I get to the delicious, slightly sweet core. Yum!
Woman after my own heart, food to play with!.... I sometimes put a little sugar in the spiced vinegar too... People always leave my house with a full stomach .. Usually got something tasty cooking or in the fridge.. and none of it pre packed! Even my coal man used to deliver around 11.30 'cos he would get hot soup! hehehe.... Any more collaborations with Antipodean Steve?
grumpy poo He hasn't replied to my last two emails, so probably not :-(
aww I still follow his page... I thought he was better than that, he seems a nice guy.. I hate it when people don't respond... maybe that's why you have so many fans...
+grumpy poo Thank you for sharing the story about your Dad's enormous sack ...
Just followed this to the letter with a pack of 750g of M******sons pickling onions and the "to be found nearby" (so obviously convenient) S*******s jar of spiced vinegar (what well strategically placed thumbs you have when covering your labels!). Yet the gesture (or the "Jester|"?) is highly appreciated.
All went according to plan but I left it a bit late for Christmas so I hope these will be well matured in time for the end of January. Now "doing their stuff" in the cellar ... My only question is, how to stop those onions who insist on floating to the top of the jar and from being covered by the vinegar in order to keep them submerged? Air pockets or just uncooperative onions? Is it scientific or should I throw them out?
mickypoo4622 Yes, they are a b****y nuisance. If you can pack them in tight they usually stay down but otherwise I invert the jars briefly every few days just to make sure the onions get a good dose of v*****r
+Titlis Busy Kitchen I'm still eating these, I think there's about a third of them left. They usually make an appearance on Sunday nights for our weekly buffet at the local pub. I also added 4 very small red chillis from a jar of chillis in brine. Now they have a real "kick" to them as well!
You talk like People who read stories on TV
😃😃
Mush mouth
That's a lot of vinegar on your chips!
she probly eats a lot of chips.i know i do
tapoka tapoka me too!
I thought you had to cook the onions to avoid Botulism. It being a root veg an all.
