So satisfying to watch you transform a sad little forgotten tea cart back to better than brand new. I used to apprentice for my grandfather in his workshop next door when I was in high school. He built furniture but left a lot of the restoration work for me which I loved. Watching this video brought back the wonderful smells of woodshavings, mineral oil and his favorite pipe. I'm in my happy place after watching this. Maybe i should take a new look at my garage and make space for restoration!

Hello Cathy, Yvonne from Melbourne, Australia here. You are lucky to have such warm feelings and memories of your Grandfather, and sharing a job that creates something special from broken and old things. I hope you have some of his self built items now that he’s gone. And I, myself, think that would be a wonderful thing to do….start resurrecting old or damaged furniture. Perhaps you could do what Jay does and have your own channel where we could watch your creations/ restorations and barrack for you. I just love fixing things that others would gladly throw away, but my projects are usually sewing or mending. Any saved object has its own vale, both for the repair-person and the end user! Go for it, girl😊❤️🦘

@yvonnepagan9912 yes I do!! I have a grandmother clock that he built from a cherry tree that he picked out himself. I have a round colonial table that transforms into a chair. Both items I was there to watch and learn from him. I have a couple things that I found at flea markets that I restored. I love wondering about the craftsman that built them and the family that owned them. Our Savior was a carpenter! What's not to love about that?! And I, like you, mostly work with sewing and crochet and a wide variety of crafts. I'm a jack of all trades and master of none! So wonderful to hear from someone on the other side of the world!

Watching you restore an old table you found brought back some memories. Back in 1974 I acquired an antique oak rocking chair frame. Years later, I refinished the frame in a golden oak finish. A few years later, and a big life change, I found an upholsterer that would build up a period seat cushion. Many years later, I am sitting in this chair, in 2023! It will be passed down and probably last another hundred years.

I redid a few small chairs that had been in my family for a few hundred years. The result was AMAZING. Those wooden runners need to have some Gulf Wax (a very firm paraffin wax used in home food canning). It makes a very smooth glide

The little guy turned out beautifully. The brass strip and clean lines give it a more modern look which is quite appealing. Very glad you found it and rescued it from the landfill.

You could buy an electric nail file for the tiny grooves! They come with tiny sanding bits which might work well on tiny areas/grooves.

@@Flippingdrawers you could also get a small hobby drill, called a Dremel. There are also tiny little stones and file bits made for them. My son makes model airplanes and uses one, that I had used in my acrylic nail salon, almost 30 years ago.

Nice to hear you talk about using the brush as long you follow the wood grain 😁 already had a few "heartaches" seeing flippers having no idea what they were doing and then complaining that had scratches on the wood 😕🤷🏼‍♀️ Oh... Now I know why you're polishing that brass inlay on IG, yes I'm a stalker but a healthy one 🤣🤣🤣 The tea table looks beautiful 😍

It always amazes me how little people respect furniture pieces made of wood and let there condition just deteriorate so much. Oak is suck a beautiful wood. Well done restoring this piece and you even added a little bit of your own flare to it with the brass inlay. It was a nice touch that added a visual pop to it.

Fantastic restoration and fun video as always. I am subscribed 😁. One trick to keep in mind is to use rounded side of the router against the straight edge - that way even if you slightly rotate it inadvertently the grove will still be straight.
