Thank you for this tutorial! This has much better results than using crop/size & position/blur method!
1. Create a new project
2. Add a video to the timeline
3. Select the video track
4. Apply the Mask filter
5. Select the video track, and click on the Composite button in the track to see where the mask is located
6. Modify the Mask settings to move the mask to the right position: At this point, Shotcut doesn't support simply dragging the mask
7. Add a video track to the timeline
8. Copy the video and paste it into the new track
9. Disable Composite on both tracks
10. Select the original video track (at the bottom), and remove the Mask filter
11. With the bottom track still selected, add the Blur filter, and increase its Width/Height to suit your needs
12. Select the upper track, set Operation = Substract, and enable Composite on that track
13. Play the video, and check that it works as planned.

Hi, thanks for your tutorial. In the new versions the compositing button doesn't work since you add a transparent colour. So the tutorial is correct and adding the blur filter is what I like but it is not correct for the newest versions.

I'm on Shotcut version 19.09.14 and Mosaic blurs the entire shot. Could you create an updated tutorial for how to blur faces or parts of a screen/clip?
I think they done something to these filters because I've the 18-8-14 version, which I'm assuming is the most recent because I did literally just upgrade it... and I'm not getting the filter options I'm hoping for.

Could you also do Key Frames when the birds head changes?
I am a beginner with this software but not with general computer programs like this. The compositing icon would only activate if I made a copy of the video on a 2nd track after reading someone else had a problem but it still will not work like this video shows. And it is not making the blurred area regardless. Is there some detail not shown possibly

whenever i do the composite thingy it doesent get blacked and only shoes the rectangle wat do i do
this scene will remain blur in the entire video but i was wanting to do a writing blur on only a part of video but if i do that that part remains blur the whole video
Not adding mask when I select mask. Compositing is not there in the latest version.

Hi, I've a problem. I'm using the shotcut version 18 11 18. I have no compositing button in my timeline. Only the sound on/off, the eye and the lock. So I've no chance to see the mask. Do you know what could be wrong?
If I remember correctly, you have to just add another video track and place something there (a white image) to be able to see masks.

Shotcut has keyframes now. Please do an update to this video so current versions can see the proper way to censor.

We need an updated version of this video, as the composition button no longer exists and the Mask filter has changed to a number of "Mask: Something" filters.

Great video. Wish this were a bit less work. I gotta imagine that in expenaive video aoftware they just press a few buttons and it tracks the face automatically. Beggars can't be choosers I guess.
