This explains why, I'm able to ride my bike. Walking, sitting, laying are all tough, and at times, torment. So it's because, it's not weight bearing. Yesterday I had a blast on my bike. After ride, pain comes right back. Been watching you guys for probably about 6 months.

Nice to see a video focused on those of us in the bone-on-bone category. Fortunately I am scheduled for a hip replace soon, but in the interim I am doing my best to stay as strong as I can. Walking 10k steps a day is part of it, but I've also been trying exercises for strength and joint mobility. Unfortunately the ones often seen on the web are mostly in a standing position, and I find they both increase joint pain and make the joint pop which, although not painful, is scary and I'm sure not good for it. Your prone and supine versions look much more suitable and I look forward to trying them. It was also nice to hear about the 'flare-up' nature of pain which is definitely my experience. And, yeah, I do plan to swallow my pride and try the cane. Thanks guys.

I couldn't do any of these at all without screaming, the percocet I'm taking gives minimum relief. Don't know how I'm going to get thru till 9-11, I'm in so much pain I wanna die. :(

I had gotten a physical therapist and things got actually worse. After my injection some kind of steriod I was alive and able to walk without pain and after 5 months it wore off. Hi, I'm new to all this. 2 weeks ago, I was walking up stairs and there was a grind/grab/awkward sensation at the front of my hip. It slowly progressed to burning stiffness upon standing and almost unbearable nerve irritation/pain sensation when sitting. This is when I turned to watching videos on YT while awaiting an xray.
I started doing some of the recommended stretches but it has made things 10 times worse. I now cannot drive my car or sit at all without feeling agonising burning/irritation which only decreases after I lay down for hours. I realise now that I may have overdone the stretching/strengthening exercises in the first week post injury but there was no great fall/accident to indicate crippling injury was on its way. Xray says I have hip degeneration/narrowing and likely OA.
When you google acute hip injury or how to treat bone on bone acute hip injury/flare etc. no one is talking about an acute situation on YT. It appears to be just long-term suffering and potential solutions/treatment plans.
I would imagine I'm not the only one out there who is in this window (just injured in last few weeks etc.) of injury with subsequent imaging indicating arthritic changes, so could you please provide some assistance as to how best to treat an acute injury like mine. Also, when and how to know when it is time to transition into an arthritis/FAI treatment program?
    Treatment summary:
    Mistake No.1 - Stretching/ROM exercises
Mistake No.2 - Warm epsom salt baths (felt so good initially and I could do full ROM afterwards but then a world of pain and stiffness.
Mistake No.3 - Driving/sitting in spite of increasing pain/irritation (this was a HUGE mistake!)
    Massaging - short term relief.
NSAI's and lying around in bed all day - So far this is the only thing that is keeping me sane.

This is going to sound crazy, but not as crazy as going from an active 40 year old to a life that closer resembles a 70 yr old:
If pain is a guarantee as is a hip replacement, what would move the process along? Is pain an indicator of progressing the problem or is pain just a never ending inflammatory response? So if walking hurts, is that because it's causing further damage or not? At this point walking into traffic looks a lot less painful then this.

He’s great. I plan on going back in a month and I am recording this journey!! Hopefully I’ll have enough relief to post a vid about it. First I’m testing several things out. Once I find something that really reverse or prevent more damage , I’ll upload to my channel. Love an slight ppl! Stay positive. There are angels that walk among us to help those who suffer!!!

Thank you for this video! I'm 32 and have osteoarthritis in one hip as a secondary effect of a disability called Arthrogryposis. I start PT tomorrow, but I've been adapting these exercises to work with my level of mobility and doing them at home and in the swimming pool. They have already helped my pain to go away almost completely. At some point in the future I'll probably need to have a hip replacement if I want to continue being able to walk (which I do!), but I'm hoping to put that off for as long as is reasonable. I was wondering if you have any videos on how to prepare ahead of time for a positive outcome from hip replacement surgery, or the best exercises to do while you are rehabilitating after surgery? Thanks again!
Also, I'm in school to be a psychologist, so maybe someday soon we'll have a fix for those broken hearts!

♥♥♥Carrying two children and being unable to move because of my illness, I put on a lot of weight in the next 10-15 years. It strains my knee joint very much, leading to additional osteoarthritis in my early forties. It doesn't help that I work in a small office sitting at the computer all day. When every move you make feels like torture, you tend to avoid moving. This is probably the number one mistake those of us with arthritis make. This is also one of the main reasons obesity is twice as common among people with arthritis than the general public. To get an arthritis solution here : tinyurl.com/y3t83cje?TruEer7 > ☺☺☺☺

From being so fit and flexible, to not being able to walk, without an aide is devastating 😭 I'm told I have tight hips, and need 2 hip replacements, which I don't want. Been to physios, chiro, and now will try an Osteopath 👍 I do stretching with a stretch band, and do the side to side hip one. Was doing hydro, which was great, but the pool was not safe getting in and out, so had to stop 😭

A lot of good suggestions. I have a question though. When lying on a table and doing the hip flexion with one leg, what should you do if the arthritis on the femur head prevents you from continuing to move your knee towards your chest?

  • @fitstudboi
    @fitstudboi Před 2 lety

But the waddling can also be that one hip is bone on bone and the other still has space..when I step there is a significant feel of stepping down on the one leg and up with the other on a completely level surface..my mobility and pain and stiffness is so bad..that if I was to walk through snow ..my tracks resembles a sled track...in some one of that condition I imagine the muscular skeletal system is quite reactive and always in protect move...learned position of protection which can be constantly painful and difficult and relief often last barely 30 minutes or until the next few steps..
So will these exercise actually hell eventually with tenacity or are these only recommended for minor to moderate pain and discomfort...the levels of movement you are suggesting in your examples of those with the issue seems to be minor to moderate...I might be able to bagel bend my knee 3 inches off the floor..my lower core Is pretty much gone so i have to plop down and to get upnis next to impossible.. so pretty bad..
Are you saying if I tough out these exercises they would make a world of difference ?

Great vid guys. Recovering from an accetabular fracture, had some metalwork put in to support the bone healing. I am still suffering 10 months later due to the cartilage being thinner in the hip joint. The consultant is adamant on hip replacement but I'm not convinced this is the only solution. Do you have knowledge of any alternative treatments and are they successful? I was back cycling up to 70 miles two months back, but now I have gone backwards and can only manage 2 hours at a lower intensity! Thank you.......

Jan Springer you could try laying with your knees bent toward the ceiling with a long towel wrapped behind the thigh and the ends of the towel strung up to your waist, so you could grab hold of the ends of the towel and gradually walk the hands up the towel closer to your thigh, guiding the leg in closer to your torso, over time.

It's hip replacement inevitable, though? Once the osteoarthritis results in bone-on-bone in the hip socket? This video doesn't address that issue only how to ease the discomfort of this problem. I had bone-on-bone in my left hip; nothing worked to ease the pain and I was using a cane, also (as demonstrated in this video). Finally, last week, I had 1M umbilical cord, stem cells injected into my left hip socket. I'm more mobile now but still need my cane. I hear it takes up to six months for the stem cells to start creating new cartilage in the afflicted joint. I opted against a hip replacement because my doctor told me it's not a permanent solution, either. This procedure's only good for about 10-15 years then another hip replacement's necessary. I wish these doctors would weigh with their opinions on stem cell therapy as an option to these affliction now a days!

Hi, thank you for all the information you guys share here, I have bone to bone on my left hip, the doctor told me I have no cartilage on my left hip and he think I be coming back for a hip replacement in 3 years the most, I have this problem now because an incident I had 30 years a go and they put on my left hip 3 nails and never had a single problem with them and they will last for ever, but with this problem if I do the hip replacement they will remove them, I don't want to do surgery since is only temporarily for 10 or 20 years depends on the amount of exercise I do, I am trying to find what can I do and if is possible to fix my hip with out surgery, for now it only hurts a little when I pull my leg up to get in to the car or some times when I am in bed and move my leg up other then that I walk 4 to 5 hours with no pain, I am 44 years old and I do exercise every day, please any advised you guys can give would be great , thank you so much for your time and help, I hope I can wait enough time so they invent something that is permanent when they replace the hip, any news about that in the near future ? thanks again.

Over time Iv been reduced to using heavy weights and now have lost almost all weight and muscle in my legs. My surgeon highly recommends that I hold off on a hip replacement. So am looking for alternatives to keep the muscle on my leg. I also swim and bike.

Left a tip, I know how you feel, I started a year ago with the pain in my left hip, with exercise and painkillers at times I carried on walking my 8 to 10 miles a day with my dog over 4 walks 2x3 miles and 2x 1.4 miles, sometimes more.
From November the pain got worse and from January I can now just about walk 2x 2 miles , also had to start using a cane from Jan, as well, it also takes me twice as long to walk, a 1.5 mile walk used to take 22 mins now it takes 45 mins
I had an X ray and I have severe Osteoarthritis in both hips and a badly worn femur, Dr said I need two new hips
Like you doing routine things is getting harder [even things like cutting the grass] and I feel like I am going down hill fast
I did have a hospital appointment for this week, but due to lock down was cancelled .
Like you I have the pain 24/7 if I sleep in bed, If I sleep on the couch I am pain free until I get up, now been sleeping on the couch for 5 months.
If it's any help? Turmeric is a very good anti inflammatory

@@macraghnaill3553, we are so similar. Yes, when they did my X-Ray sometime around Sept of 2019. I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in my right side hip (I call it my rt side pelvic joint). I'm thinking when I go back, they might say my femur has been badly worn due to the osteoarthritis. And since that diagnosis, the pain has just steadily increased (Hurts when I'm sleeeping too)
I've been holding off getting a DR. appt, to discuss my options until the Covid 19 boils over but I don't think I can make it. So do you think that you'll be having the hip replacement surgery? And if you have consulted with a specialist, what negatives and setbacks have you been advised? I'm wondering, If can continue running about 15 to 20 miles per week? As of now I'm just about shut down. I'll try using Turmeric ....(I hate being so dependent on IBUprofen) but thanks very much for your reply.

@@LEFTaTIP I was supposed to see a specialist on the 18th May, but was cancelled due to lockdown.
The Dr was sending me because I am [was ]so active for my age [66] , I did look into information on hip replacement and it appears you can run , but probably wouldn't be for a while, even just walking my 10 miles a day would take a while to get there, I do know someone who had had both knees replaced and he runs again.
As for having hip surgery , I was doing all kinds of hip exercises to stave it off but I can not go on as I am, it's driving me up the wall being so inactive, plus the pain drains ones energy.
I have been taking Napraxen [started off on paracetamol] but am now trying to get off them as I don't really think they lessen the pain all that much
Turmeric and Bio Freeze gel do work, I also take Green Lipped Mussel and Glucosamine, not sure if they work or not ?but I keep taking them, as you can see I much prefer trying natural pain killers to medication which has side effects.
Hope this helps? as I do know how you feel

I use a cane to walk and am using a peddler after reading about the benefits of keeping active with non-weight bearing activities. After watching this video about limited range of motion in the hip (which I have) wearing away the bone in that small area, I am concerned that this daily repetitive activity of foot peddling could actually be accelerating the wearing away of the bone. He's 83, healthy and active but trying to avoid replacement because of fear. He's had Cortisone shots in the past but that stopped working so he just had a what he calls "a gel injection". He can't tell me what it actually is and I'm thinking it may be a Hyaluronic acid injection he's had. I know (and so does he) that it's a temporary approach but do you think it will give him "some" pain relief??? He just had it Friday.
