- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLY YOUR DRONE AND DRIVE AT THE SAME TIME. I did not know at the time that this was a huge mistake. I was not holding the remote the entire time the drone was in the air. I did glance at the screen a couple of times. I have since made two more videos similar to this with my wife driving my truck on offroad trails.
This was not a video I had planned on making. I had many people asking me questions about the process of setting up and using Active Track 3.0. It seems that some people are having problems with the drone following them. I will show you all of the connections, camera settings, drone settings, and everything I do to use and video with the drone. I took the drone to the Orange County Great Park. I will launch the drone and have it follow me around in my truck. I will also push the speed limit of the drone to the test. Trace Mode and Parallel Mode are the two Active Track choices when using the sensors. One, if you read the title, is able to follow at much greater speed. I hope this video will solve any problems anyone is having. If you are worried about your drone crashing, watch the scene where the sensors stopped the drone from smashing into a light pole at 15 mph. Please be careful anytime you are using Active Track. I have been told by several people that using Parallel Mode can increase the chances of a drone crash. GET INSURANCE. Thanks

Thank you. Finally found a upload where some one actually shows you what you want to see & know. Well done for taking the time to do this.
"Don't tell me that DJI....Just do it!"
That had me lmao😆
Just bought my drone, learning so much from you, thank you.
Tony, Australia.
I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing it. I am starting to get into the DJI quick shots and extra features so I appreciated this. It was informative.
Thanks for the very clear explanation. I understand much better the process of doing active tracking. Keep up the good work.
Great explanation on using Active Track. Appreciate the effort.
Oh man, thanks so much for this video! I am a hiker in Australia just starting out my channel and I just got a Mavic Air 2 to help improve my video quality.
The Active track is the biggest thing I want to use. Your video was so easy to understand and has really helped me get my head around it!
I came across your video just by looking for Active Track videos, but now you've gained another follower :)
Thanks again! :)
Super cool man. Good luck with the channel.
Very cool. These tests are very helpful. Thank you for sharing !
Thank you for making this video! There was so much good information in here. I was on the edge of my seat when your MA2 almost crashed into that pole. I was using active track and had something similar happen..Except my did not register these tiny tree branches and crashed right into them. I’m from the Midwest and dream of having awesome places to fly like you do. Great content. Happy flying!
Thank you so much. I saw that pole coming and kind of closed my eyes while I was driving. Good thing no other car were around. Tiny branches are the worst. Come Autumn, the tiny branch crashes will go up.
Thank you so much, so informative. Excellent! Steven.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Thought I had it down pat but it would not work. Came home viewed your instructions again and realized I was in tripod mode. Went out immediately and followed your instructions and bang it worked perfect. Keep doing what you’re doing. Again thanks.
I've done that a couple of times.
good video..now i know my drone even better..thank you..keep doing the good job
Very helpful and comprehensive. Thank you.
That was excellent and explained so much. Thank you!
Spot on mate. Simply demonstrated. I watched probably 20 videos previously just to confirm the active tracking was actually a thing, and how it worked. Here, everything is explained and demonstrated as it should be, great job.
Thanks.
Great video I've had this drone for probably a year and still didn't even know I could do any of this with it. Super excited to go outside and mess with the settings definitely subscribing very educational.
Excellent video and very educational!!
Really good clip. Thanks!
Thank you for this video.. Just like you I occasionally(or did) have difficulty locking on while using Active track. As your video clearly shows, you have to form a proper box around the subject and then you'll see either little man or little vehicle at bottom of green square.. Happy out now, Thank you..👏👏
Thank you. AWESOME keep up the good work
Fascinating video.
Great video, thank you. We just got the Mavic Air 2 for our MTB adventures, and this video was super helpful :-). We have subbed
Very helpful, appreciate the video, keep them coming
Thanks, will do!
Great information. Thank You
Great information. Thank You.
Good job, very interesting for me as new owner of mavic air 2. I owned yuneec 500 4k , there is huge difference. I am so excited 😁
Very informative. Thank you sir.
Excellent video man! Great work. Looking fwd to seeing your mtb parallel test! Think Ill be using trace to film climbs and parallel for descents :)
Learned something new. thank so much. i hope more subscribers and views for your awesome tutorial.
Great video man,
Great video! Very detailed!
Nice.. great to see how it performs in real life!
I've had this drone for two years and I never tried the active track when walking with trees around like you did... That's impressive. I need to try that. 😁
Wow! That last roundabout was fantastic! It's that sideways flight that comes with the "Parallel" mode that will eventually get you (I hope not). You did a great job of testing it man, you had me on the edge of my seat a couple of times round those poles and trees! I have not had the time yet to use the tracking very much yet on my Air 2, but this will give me some confidence to try.
Those light poles came close.
Great video... Nice to see the test done in suburbia.
Rally cool I love the Air 2. ell done Thumbs up.
Thanks for the information i just purchased this one for my channel. Hope to get some great shots for everyone.
Really nice vid. Appreciate it very much, getting one today and it's like a got a training lesson.
Thanks. They are a lot of fun.
Thank you for this amazing video , a lot of util information
Thank you very much for your quick reply. Let's keep droning!
Good stuff, thanks for making this.
Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video, my boyfriend is going to love this
Nice to see you didn’t edit out the fails.
Just trying to be as honest as possible.
Great video !!!
Awesome tips Sir
Great detail video.
Great Video!
Great vid man!!
Great video! I just bought a new Mavic!
Excellent demonstration... Thanks for posting! Dropping a LIKE on your video, watching and Supporting!
Thanks
Good stuff! I must say, you are much more brave than I am to trust active track to not crash a $1000 drone.
It scared me a couple of times, but I have insurance.
Great relevant content ... thank you :-)
Great review
Excellent info!!
Hi,very nice video!
thanks for this information
Thanks buddy this videos are great I'm definitely subscribing to your channel
Thank you. I've done a bunch of vids on the MA2. I am doing another Active Track Vid in sport mode, coming soon.
I fly The Great Park too. awesome area to play
Good job man!
Great video. Thx
thank you. big help
Good stuff! 👍👍👍
Great vid mate, wow 15-40 holy sht that's a lot of lamp posts (UK ) that Mavic is well on it's way to re-hab !!!.
Thanks for that, well helpful, be safe mate.
excelente prueba, ahoera mas conrtento al poder saber que lo puedo utilizar en mis paseos en moto¡¡ gracias
Good tip about putting the drone in parallel. I have a lot of problems with tracking on my bike. It is poorly recognised. It knows people and cars. Motorbikes don't. I'm going to try it in parallel mode.
Thanks. And I'll be in touch.
Greetings krazyklaas.
Thanks for the tips, Im considering this drone for my ski videos
Are you going to use it for tracking yourself? I'm currently using the skydio 2. It is light years ahead of dji for autonomous tracking. I've posted a couple of videos so far on it.
@@uosocal thanks for the info, I will check it out. Yes, I intend to record my friends and I while skiing 👍
The Skydio has been amazing on my mtb.
Next test, put the drone well above anything it might hit, go into Sports Mode, and have a friend drive.
Yeah im trying to figure out the capability of this drone with FocusTrack.
What is the top speed it can follow me on a motorcycle?
With & without obstacle avoidance.
And what do all the modes mean? Spotlight? Trace?
@@S0RELOSER I did that, top speed is only 40 mph. You have to do it in a city where you go slower
Nice job👍
Good Stuff!!!
I have the same drone and it tracks better in parallel mode because the profile of your vehicle in this case is a larger image for the drone to see and lock on to while following.
WOW Amazing
Thanks! I bought this drone based on your recommendation so I could record myself zipping around in my Prius. So today I did what you did and got the drone to lock onto me as I was sitting in my Prius. I drove to get some cigs and left the drone in the air as I walked into Circle K. When I came out the drone was still there. So then I decided to zip around the city waving at friends. When I got home the drone was nowhere to be seen. You cost me almost $2k. I’m devastated.
That's not great. If you weren't monitoring the drone, the battery got to low to keep following you. It should have returned to its home point automatically. Did you go back and look where you originally launched it?
Hi,was Watching you flying the DJI mavic at the park.My little advice is for you to fly a drone over everything like 350ft to 400 ft hi over Everything. The drone is meant to track you anywhere so if you fly it higher 300 to 400 ft' in the sky then your drone we be OK for good. I love your video and am going to buy one too.
Be careful out there bro.
Thanks
Prince
More tips passed on thanks 👍. At times my Air2 will not recognise me on the motorcycle with the black box popping up the same as you. If I stand away from the bike , draw the box around me, get back on and stand up as I ride away, it follows me consistently. Flying in open fields I’m getting the drone up to 20mph and 30 mph in sport but I can only do that in short bursts as the fields aren’t big enough. I need to go out an find some trails to test again 🤞
Sometimes it's just quirky.
What do you think of this? I don’t get the icon at the base of the green box, my firmware is up to dated. But I did it though my iPhone via the app, it’s still temperamental and unreliable. czcams.com/video/NrhZHj3C0UQ/video.html
I am looking into it. I message back soon.
Thank you so much for this awesome test video!! Really helpful. Subscribed.
woow nice man.... time 10:20 cca when you started driving, it was look like in GTA game :D :D :-)
Great info on the tracking. I had thought parallel mode would have the drone be going parallel with the object as it did towards the end of the video. However the only issue would be is that the sides of the drone does not have the obstacle sensors and can crash into a light pole or higher tree
Parallel mode is more light angular mode. I think that way the front sensors can still see most of the objects in front. Even though my Mavic 2 Zoom did pretty much the same thing in Parallel mode.
Very good demonstration and information. My Air2 is on order and looking forward to applying some of this information. I fish offshore and want to use it to track my boat
That will look really cool.
Just go and watch other speed test videos because this one is not correct! For instance, watch Justin Hill's speed test video where the drone is following his boat! He is definitely NOT going 14 mph.....and the drone is keeping up just fine
Depends on the flight mode.
I guess you can operate in sport mode over the water because there are no obstacles to avoid
Birds every once in awhile
Tks for this video. For real! . It was the best
I’ve followed motorcycles at 30 mph! Push that thing harder! 🤘
I've done a couple vids chasing my truck up to 43mph.
Good JOb Mr... from Indonesia ...naf drone....
Love this content. Love the analyzing of the "why's" this or that. Great explanation of all the details. I do have a question you didn't mention in the video: When it following you and it "loses you", does it stay in place hovering? Does it return to home?
It will stop and hover until you regain control, or rth when battery gets low.
Thanks
great with mavic air 2
Cool
In trace mode, the clue is in the action, "Trace" the drone wants to trace the movemnets of your car, "copy" wheres as parrellel mode its only tracking the target, and not trying to copy the movements or route of the tracing..
That is important info right there thank you
I already know about the quality, performance and features of the Mavic Air 2 build, photography quality, and the DJI Fly app. But have not taken off due to not mastering the flight parameters like?
great video, got nervous around those light poles
It came really close a couple of times.
No need, it’s better than you think. The tighter the trail, the slower you have to go and it doesn’t like sharp terns. I’ll give it a try in parallel on open ground and see if that makes a difference czcams.com/video/y1RaedY3blg/video.html
I had a lot less luck with parallel mode. I specifically think curves cause the unit some issues. I really hope they try to improve the parallel mode though, because it makes for amazing shots!
Definitely
That walk through the woods was interesting. Was curious as to how good that will do. I want to take my drone disc golfing and I like how it’s going to follow and avoid trees extremely well. Just wish the active tracking could track a disc.. Idk why it can’t, especially if it’s a bright color completely different than the contrast of the grass and trees..
It should do a good job following you, but the disc would be moving too fast.
14:36 just had the courage to take out my drone the other day 😂 thanks a mill can't wait to track myself on a hike ..how are you drawing the green box with your finger on the screen ? Thanks for showing us this ..really clear 😊& helpful
You can only do it when the drone is airborne. Just use your finger directly on your screen
Great video - heading out now to try 'parallel' mode!! A quick question, if you're tracking something and the gradient changes, does the drone adjust and stay at a fixed height above the object?
The drone will follow uphill and downhill, but the height will vary.
Reason the drone tracks faster in parallel mode is I’m sure probably because when it’s seeing your car on the side it’s more surface area for camera to lock onto to follow as opposed to just the back of your car. Also top speed in normal mode is limited to about 20 or 22 mph
Hi. I but bicycle 🚲 mount for controller, works great
I think to by DJI Mavic 2 is it best options in class.. don't need professional.. but also won't to make great video.. Also looking program for processing data.. thx in advance
Excellent vid n info... thanks! I'm looking to get a Mini 2 (no self-tracking or obstacle avoidance ) or Mavic Air 2... I think.
Stupid question... so you can NOT set a minimum altitude of say 40' or 50' while you're doing 'testing' like this? Maybe such a distance automatically negates the ability to track?
After you lock on to your subject, you can raise the drone to that height. Once it starts flying, it could go anywhere.
I've read there is a sport mode on these to allow faster flying.
Do you know if the drone will follow you (trace)
in a faster pace if you change the speed on the controller to sport mode?
excellent video. New subscriber. How high off the ground can you use active track?
I've never tested tovan actual height. I've probably been as high as 100 feet during a Spotlight Track.
I wonder if it would be faster tracking too if you track from above looking down?
Thanks mate really interesting I have done all the quickshots on my Air2 now onto this my biggest problem is my fingers lack a bit of something that interact with the touchscreen I have tried several times to start active track but my fingers just do not seem to initiate a box will try again later this week.
If you use a screen protector you may need to adjust your "touch sensitivity"
Just a thought.
@@pallidinyou Thanks dude I later found out that you have to switch subject tracking on first in settings duh!
@@lizarddronedude3617
Ok. Thanks!
Great video but I have a question about the Active Track. If you were to go into follow me mode and if you were to imagine you were in the center of a clock, will it only track at the 12, 6 3 and 9 o'clock positions, or can you program it to follow at any angle like 1 o'clock or 8 o'clock postion?
Thanks.
Thanks. Once you start moving, the drone will move around wherever it wants. It won't stay in any one spot.
