  • The DA has suffered yet another high-profile resignation as Ghaleb Cachalia left the party. Cachalia says the party barred him from commenting on the Israel-Gaza conflict and also disclosing the gag order.

Saddened by this. Big loss for the DA. Surely in a democratic party there is room for a difference of opinion. They are not the EFF ffs😒

The DA is pro Israel & that conflicts with Cachalia's stance. He did what is necessary and resigned. Many black leadershave left the DA & looks like this trend will continue. Difficult to see the DA growing as they are serving a small minority in SA. It will be interesting to see if the DA continues to slide downward (they dropped in 2019 compared to 2014).

The DA is for minority interests and if that means they will never run the country they seem happy to live with that.

It's possible that they grew after 2019, but difficult to say for sure as using the Municipal electons may not paint an accurate picture. Some of the newer parties could also take away some DA support in the urban areas (eg. ActionSA, Rise Mzansi, BOSA, etc). The question for me is more about whether they have advanced since 2019 on a national level, or whether they have remained where they are?

There is no doubt that the conflict in Gaza and the oppression of a people has opened up the eyes of many
The ANC has shown the world that they not just talk when they say we stand against injustice
The DA , ACDP, Action SA and PA have shown how they have to comply with their backers

@@muhammadjunadeparuk1449 I think the main problem here is that Ghaleb Cachalia wanted his worldview on Palestine and Israel to also be the view of the DA's. When he discovered that this was not the case, he began to betray the party and undermine John Steenhuisen. I saw several interviews where Ghaleb was being interviewed, and in one of them, he was referred to as a "casualty". C'mon, I think that the DA is well within their rights to have a position on important matters, and for the top brass to speak with one voice.

As always, this is a one-sided story. The DA's side must still be heard. Rogue's can not be accommodated in the DA. You either submit to party rules or get out. It's a matter of principle.
