- How to Build the Peterbilt Cabover Pacemaker 352 1:25 Scale AMT Model Kit #759 Review. A Step by-Step Build and Review for Right On Replicas, LLC. Copyright 2016 Right On Replicas, LLC. All rights reserved.
I'm building this kit right now. Although it's not as rough as some of the AMT big rigs, I am glad I found this video. I have referenced it several times already. One thing I don't understand is how did these instructions get past QA? The part numbers on the trees don't remotely come close to matching the instructions. It is helpful to have some automotive knowledge when building these old kits.
GG, Those are some astute observations! We have to go back in time for some explanations. This kit was released around 1970. Just like the real automakers, model manufacturers were pumping out kits as fast as they could to meet demand. Thorough vetting of the instructions was secondary because - everyone had automotive knowledge back then. Besides, every boy aged 5-15 was building model kits. It was second nature back then to figure it out or ask an adult how they should go together. On top of that, many kits have been repurposed and the instructions never get updated to reflect the changed parts, so they are often incorrectly numbered on these old mold sprues. That's why we try to show a photo of the parts needed for each sub-assembly for clear identification. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! -Doug
@@RightOnReplicas thanks for the reply! I actually was watching another video of this same truck and that guy pointed out the corrected numbers are actually printed on the bottom of the box with the trees!
GG, Thanks for the update! -Doug
OH WOW!!!!!!!!! THIS WAS THE FIRST GLUE TOGETHER MODEL TRUCK I BUILT, SUPER COOL!!!!!
MK - Modeling provides great memories! -Doug
You have really made me appreciate kits that need a bit of work. If I bought an older car to restore, it would need work. why not a classic model. Love the channel.
KSG, Thanks and that's our goal. Until they perfect a way to order kits on demand the only way to build these old subjects is to make the most of the kits that are available! -Doug
Very nice build. The details you explain in your builds are very useful, and save us from messing up our models with mistakes. I enjoy your videos. Keep it up, please
Pat, That's exactly the reason we're here. We won't try to build contest models and super detail everything but if there's an issue - we'll bring it up and, quite often, show you how to fix it! We'll leave the detailing up to those that want to take the time for that. We're here to help! -Doug
Excellent job R O R! I love the ole truck kits.
Thanks SW, we love 'em too! -Doug
Thank god you made this video Ive been building this kit for the past week and trying to find the parts suck. Thank you and great video.

A beauty and your build is sweet
UI, Thanks for saying so! -Doug
I can remember building this back in the 70s I kit bashed an extra Detroit engine and spliced the back half on a complete v 8 making a v 12 out of it and it was pretty impressive for back then now you can buy a resin v 12
Wally, That was very inventive of you. Thanks for watching and please help us reach more modelers by subscribing if you haven't done so already. -Doug
Great build, that's a really good looking semi truck😊😊😊👍👍👍
MU, Glad you liked it! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
Looks awesome!
'Preciate that NR! -Doug
I've built probably 8 or so of these over the years. I recently did another one. Some issues I ran into. Drivers sear didn't fit well, had to chop it up pretty good to fit decent. The other big issue is getting the cab mounted to the frame to fit properly in relationship to to the wheels ect. Took some careful trimming, and I actually redid it twice to get it to look "right". Others already mentioned the issues you ran into. I mixed my own paint to get close to the detroit green . Yours looks great.
James, Thanks for the information! PS, please help us reach more modelers by subscribing if you haven't done so already. -Doug

Thanks NR -Doug
Came out great Doug. I'm debating on ordering this kit
CM - This one takes a little work but it's not too bad. You should like it though! -Doug
Casey Maple u need to order it now while u can cause with the bankruptcy deal with revell it’s hard telling when they will come back out and plus u know when they discontinue the kit people are going to rip one another off for price. That’s a good kit I got 2 of them so it’s well worth it
I love these daily uploads, great review!
CJ - Thanks, but I don't always get them done that fast but I'll keep 'em coming! -Doug
Like the blue interior. Compliments the exterior
Glad you like it BB! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
beautiful , thank you
Thanks RJ! -Doug
I think the Peterbuilt 362 is my favourite truck since my mid 90's early school years, alongside with the K100 Aerodyne. Think that has something to do with Goliath from Knight Rider and Optimus Prime too. Bear in mind we don't have these here in Europe so they just feel even more special to us, truck lovers from the other side of the pond. 😆
T, Thanks for sharing and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
I'm currently building this kit and your video has helped a lot. The tree parts numbers and the parts numbers on my instruction sheet don't match and some tree parts don't have any numbers so thanks for the video
HM, Man that's what we like to hear. Glad it helped! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
As a kid, I found this particular kit went together quite easy (o.k., I did leave off a bunch of parts around the exhaust and the air intake system but, Hey..kids, whatddya gonna do?)
In later years I build another one of these (customized into a "day cab") and found the kit was still quite easy (modeler friendly) to put together.
I am fixing to build another one and am looking quite forward to it...thank you for your video...I'm sure THIS build be just as much fun!
Brinx, That's the sprit. Happy modeling! -PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
@@RightOnReplicas Thanks Doug, I've been with you for a good bit now...and loving your reviews, builds and attitude in general...you ROCK brother!
Brinx, You da man! -Doug
Nice! Very nice!
U43, Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
nice kit i have built a couple of them
Eddie - I agree, it's one of the better builds for 1:24 scale. -Doug
I did the first series when he came out in the '80s if i remember...sadly it tare down but i just buy another one just like this one and i will do it exacly like yours for sure (if its ok)...like that paint and decals very much...but for the engine color a found on CZcams the original color its like medium blue or Seaside blue the way than i see...BIG THANK YOU for sharing ....this kit its very nice 👍💖😉
Thank you France! Have fun and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug
I was a 12 year old kid back in 1976 when I bought this model
CK, Glad to hear your still into them! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
I am building the AMT 48 Mercury. I lost the rear roll pan #74 on the custom assembly. I was wondering if you had one. I sure could use one.
Sam -Sorry, but I don't have any kits or parts for sale. I just review the kits for your enjoyment and information. -Doug
Looks great! I got this kit, and the Shell oil tanker kit that matches up with it. So you assembled the parts first, and then painted?
SB, sometimes it's better to sub=assemble some groups then paint for strength but not overall for a good paint job! -Doug
OMG :D THANKS! mu birthday's April 1st, and my peterbilt 352 model JUST CAME TODAY! it wraped up and im making it for my birthday, and this weekend my dad and i are going to home depot to get a spay paint gun, wish me luck!
Nick - Happy birthday man and I'm sure that everything will go just fine! -Doug
hope i does! just one problem, i m still new to truck models, i only did a 1/32 kenworth k100, but i have some exprience as i have done 3 wwii tanks in 1/35 scale, i have no idea how to paint, or use a primer, but this should give me a good idea and i know alot already,, i wonder if the wheels roll well, do they?
Nick - If you watch a few of the videos you'll start to get a good feel for what is done. Yes the wheels roll! -Doug
Right On Replicas it's so far so good I'm just waiting for my airbrush xd
did you build it yet? and hopefully you will show us on a video if/when..have fun..
i found that the tub had. come un glue. an slide down just foxed it i hope u can find the kw 123 by ant round 2 looking forward to see your build i a)so got the grave trailer
EL, Glad to hear you found the issue. I've heard that the 123 kit has issues also! -Doug
For an AMT truck kit of the time it was made, mine went together very well. Probably the toughest part is getting the front bumper attached considering it also has to hold the entire cab.
RB, Thanks for the tip! -Doug
I'm doing a semi truck model war with my buddy, I was wondering if you had and kit recommendations? The only thing it needs to have is a decent price, I'm only 12 and don't have a huge budget to spend on a semi. Thank you and nice build!👍🏻
Jade - Kits are costly but if you live near a city that has a Hobby Lobby store you can get new kits at 40% off with their weekly coupons. Michael's Stores honor those coupons too. Aside from that swap meets and contest where vendors sell kits are good sources for lower cost kits. -Doug
Love it
Thanks CB! -PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
Hi. Cool video. You have actually put the exhaust manifold on backwards. If they are put on the right way then the exhaust pipe will join up to them.
TC, Thanks for the info! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
had problems. with the pete cab over the hings and geting it to lin up idont know if its the tub or the frame
EL, Our construction didn't reveal any issues there so I have to assume something didn't get glued into a proper position. That is why we always stress the importance of thoroughly test fitting the parts. Sorry we're not helping much here! -Doug
hey i have got over 150 trucks i have done dut could u do a kw 123 cabover i just got the kit from amt round two an great work
EL, I'll keep an eye out for that one! -Doug
What is the easiest way to get the cab hinges to line up and get glued? My Dad helped me build part of this kit in the early 70's. I have a new one in my closet waiting to be built. Watching your video brought back nightmares from building this kit and I'm 57 now. :)
BBAZ, Test fitting and adjusting repeatedly as needed until a proper fit is acquired! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already, to help us continue our mission to inspire more modelers! -Doug
Nice build review, KUTGW...
Marcos Thanks for the kudos! -Doug
That truck is awesomely retro... I don't recall seeing any cabovers on the road any more. Are they still being made?
Steve, Thanks for watching. I hear they still make them for Europe though! -Doug
Just got this kit as a gift. Getting started and there is no decal placement guide in the kit. Is there somewhere I can find one? I like the Patriot scheme but may go with the other, like the box, and I don't see the stripes the go up and over the top of the cab. Any guidance? BTW, thanks for the videos and support.
Kevin - As you know we used the other decals but there are photos of builds online (Just search for the kit images) like this one on HobbyLinc's site www.hobbylinc.com/cgi-bin/pic.cgi t=pics_user_gallery&item_i=204992&pic_user_i=21848&pic_pic_i=4263 that you should be able to use for a placement guide. -Doug
What's the best way to glue the cab hinges so that the cab opens?
BBAZ, Carefully apply Superglue to the attachment points and use accelerator to fix them in position before they move! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already, to help us continue our mission to inspire more modelers! -Doug
Going to have to save my money and buy a new one
Mike - Well it's not to late to tell Santa! -Doug
Muito legal.
Obrigado Alfredo! -Doug
what product did you use on the engine blackwash to tone down the chrome? thanks!
RA, Just thin down some flat black paint with about 85% thinner! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
Right On Replicas thanks! and yes, i’ve subscribed and enjoy watching your content.
What is that thing on the top of the truck cab
CB, If not lights, horns, etc., I guess you're talking about the air conditioning unit for the driver or the sun visor in front! -Doug
Do u need to paint or it come painted
1Way, None of the parts are pre-painted! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
I've been working on this kit since the first of the year....PAY ATTENTION. One key thing is the front wheels to the axle. They stick out too far so cut down spindle mounts a 16th inch. Wheel and tire should be INSIDE the cab. Not outside it makes a really big difference.
Harry, Thanks for the tip! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
The exhaust will connect if you swap the exhaust manifolds, they are backwards
Deb, Thanks for the tip and please subscribe if you aren't already, to help us reach more model builders! -Doug
This would be a good kit to build a model of Goliath from The 1982-86 TV show Knight Rider.
Andrew, I could see that! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
niceee
Thanks THAI! -PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
@@RightOnReplicas i did boss... on the last video.. lol
I only see a small number of the real cabover semi trux out on the roads here n the USA nowadays which are only Internationals & Freightliners.
KR, Thanks for the info! -Doug
Nice job,Doug.Very patriotic !!!
Have you ever tried using 5 minute clear epoxy in place of the plastic lenses for the headlights ?
Hi Charlie - I have used it for small scale lenses and it works quite well. You can even tint it while mixing for colored lenses. -Doug
Where can i buy them?
HM, Currently this vehicle is available in Coca-Colo livery (AMT #1090) at Hobbylinc online but you can still find them at online auctions! -Doug
Peterbilt and Kenworth painted the engines flat white in those years.
International Harvester painted their engines red

Please can you tell me the measures of this truck model? Height, width, length. Thank you
KDG, Did you watch the review? Overall size is: Length: 10”, Width: 4”, Height: 6”.! -Doug
@@RightOnReplicas Thank you. Yes I watch the video but I am Italian and I do not understand spoken English very well

ROR nearly hot this kit if I did I'd do it the same as you.
KM, Thanks, that means we're on the right track! -Doug
about the dash ,sorry.
I thought you might want to know
RW, I do want to know and I thank you for letting us all know that it is easy to do this the wrong way so they can watch out for it. That's why we're here! -Doug
But nice job
Thanks!
it looks like you will have to drive steering wheel from sleeper a little crooked it seems to be
James, That's because the driver is a crooked little man! Or, how 'bout this, "It's the tilt wheel option package." Just kidding, anyway -we're always looking for detail conscious builders to submit reviews. LMK if you're interested! -Doug
You missed the Air ride switch bar
