    As a kid I used to build these things. Now that I'm older I now drive them. Hard plastic steering wheel, had to use drivers gloves in the wintertime. Great video, spot on for detail. Thanks for sharing.

    Great work Doug! I built two of these back in early 2012. One in black and another one in white with black chassis. The black unit has a red Cummins NTC 350 and the white one has the typical beige colored engine. I really enjoyed painting both of them. I want to build additional AMT trucks especially the White Western Star kit.

      I drove a few s Autocars, Brockways, even GMC in their day. They were what construction trucks were. They didn't even have a Pete or KW dealer in my area until the late 70's. Of course Mack but I didn't drive my 1st one until 78,, Still could care less about the so called big 2.

  • @TheJer1963

    Had this kit since 2012, got it primed on the tree's and put it up. You need to get some CB antennas. I had also bought some chains and brake lines to go to the trailer. On the 5th wheel you can use some KY and let it dry then paint it a flat black. A small string will work on the drivers side to pull down for the air horn. I still got a couple cans of the Testor's John Deere green, they stopped making it years ago.
    I bought the orange cabover and trailer around the same time along with 4 different trailers. Put all that in my stash. I may get to it one day. I still have a sealed Movin' On Truck from the tv show.

    I remember all the AMT kits, Loved them all but the Diamond reo was my favorite. I built it as a day cab pulling the gravel trailer. If I build another I would swap in a 318 Detroit from a Astro and aluminum wheels. IMO They made the wheelbase way to short. That also would be corrected. Im glad round 2 re-issued.

    Is the white Elmer’s glue strong enough to hold the windows in ? I’m always struggling with that part of the build when the windows are separate pieces.

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  Před 5 lety

      CC, Generally speaking, yes it will hold. Often the windows are trapped into position by tghe interior. But if theres no pressure on them they should stay if there;'s enough glue. M/S Kristal Klear is a little stronger and BSI has released a new clear adhesive too! -Doug

      Thanks for your quick reply. I resolved the problem with my AMT/ERTL Transtar Eagle truck. I guess I just panicked... :^)...by the way you should build this truck. It's a fabulous kit and I'm half way through it and very impressed with the detail and quality. If one would be tempted to build a true show truck, this would be the one. I personally don't have the skills for that, so I build shelf (display) models. I really enjoy your reviews and again, thank you.

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  Před 2 lety +1

      NB, I don't have the model any more to know for sure but I would think a straight portion of the frame in the engine bay would be a logical point for the modification. Thanks for watching and, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug

    • @RightOnReplicas
      @RightOnReplicas  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, if the the nose was lengthened , the front end was lengthened, If they extended it from only the axle forward the nose wouldn't be that long. The best thing to do is mock it up and see where it would be best to make the chop. -Doug

    • @NanatsukiBenio
      @NanatsukiBenio Před 2 lety

      @@RightOnReplicas I've figured out that the best way is move cab forward and cut the firewall then make doghouse inside of the cab and chop rear part of the frame next ~ my plan is to make White 9000 from the "Maximum Overdrive" movie (old air starter powered wrecker from the gas station scene)

    A word to the wise. The process, during assembly, of aligning all three of the main sub-assemblies, (hood, cab, sleeper) is made simpler if prior to, you work a lot of slack into each assembly. In other words, enlarge each point of attachment to give yourself some wiggle room. Your going to need it to get things to line up. The White Western Star AMT kit is almost identical except for the grille and badging...jus sayin. :^)
