- To Gaijin's credit, there aren't very many vehicles you could call useless in War Thunder. At the very least you can pull your own weight consistently, but it raises the question. What is the worst tank in War Thunder? Finding out was more difficult than you would think.

He is good level at this game. I wouldn notice anything enemy 99% of time he does notice. And even if I would notice it I would not destroy him as easily and would not defend myself as good as he does.
I think he's just aware and remembers weak spots

I've made this rant before because I am just as good as Spook, but basically the micro-knowledge of the game is what makes you a great player. Knowing exactly where to hit on every tank, knowing if you can beat the traverse of another tank or not, being able to just aim and fire at long distances without needing to use Rangefinder, and being accurate, because you're just knowledgeable about your tank's ability, etc. All that knowledge, plus basic game awareness, is what makes ground players so good. Air combat requires more actual gameplay skill instead of knowledge base.
Probably never, and it's a bit of a disservice to the community as a whole, as new players will try to replicate what he does in these tanks to obviously poor results. All he'd need to do is say at the beginning of the video 'Keep in mind I have years of experience with the game and my results are above what is actually average'.
But he doesn't say that, he keeps trying to pretend he's average or only slightly above, when in reality he's rather far above the ground average, even at high tiers.
when in doubt, lower glasis(idk how spell 2) centre mass, turret flat spot, breach/cannon or just under turret, best places to lob shells at unfamiliar vehicles,
the moment you mentioned early french tanks being so terrible they were removed from the game i immediately checked my french tech tree because i vividly remember trying to get into french tanks to play with the Char b1
and there it was, the H.35 you mentioned, SPADED. no wonder i gave up and went back to the other nations i was already playing

When it was first added I don't remember it being that bad. Just later so many bs tier 1 tanks got added that were obviously better than it just never stood a chance.
French low tier is a real struggle and 0 fun, if you get french armour, its useless, if you get something actually usable in battle, its not French. But as you reach tanks like AML, AMX50, Surbaisse, Somua, etc. Shit hits the fan, the BEST experience I had in that tier, I can literally close my eyes and still take the nuke. Somua is the only premium tank i dont regret buying, thing is heavy and can outrun light tanks lmao, oh and not even mentioning autoloaders.
I also have it spades, but I also remember enjoying it when I first started playing it
Has to be the Type 60 ATM. You either fire an ATGM and die right after, or live long enough to see the enemy move into cover, shoot down your missile, or get killed by a friendly right before impact.

I regularly uptier my Katyusha, got 4 kills in a 6.7 match before a p-47 revenge bombed me.
Katyusha is still trash. Same goes for type 60 atm
It's the worst ATGM carrier but not the worst vehicle in the game, totally different.
The Type 60 still has decent mobility and can scout.
@@i_nameless_i-jgsdf so can the PT, the ATM is painful to play regardless how you use it. Having played all of the tech trees bar China and Sweden, I'd say the ATM is the worst tank. (Possibly also the Italian m-60 when it was still 8.3 without the stabiliser)

Holy shit i think i triggered all the french baguettes with this one, its my opinion and i had a really tough time trying to play rank 1 France than any other country, rank 2 was good tho, really enjoyed it
spook, i really miss when you used to give personal opinions on fictional tanks. Have you ever heard of a game called foxhole? its a top down war MMO that's gaining alot of traction and it features a pretty huge arsenal of armored vehicles that are unique to the two factions.
the vehicles seem to be odd mishmashes of ww1 and ww2 thinking and technologies and i would love to hear your opinion on the designs

You got the wrong French tier 1 vehicle, The AMC.34 YR got a 47mm that penetrate 26mm of armor at 100 meters. 20mm at 500 meters.
A reload of 6.9 secs with a fully trained crew, that's about 4 secs longer than any other tanks at that br
Isn't that the Tankette? It's actually really good with how small it is. Try it in Sim, (German autocannons are a pain regardless).

I have strong, fond memories of killing a T34 HT from about 1.500 meters in the PT-76.
I was fairly well covered behind some trenches in some map with a wide open field, and he kept missing. His .50s couldn't quite get me either.
I must have fired 20 to 30 rounds of HEAT (I carried full racks since I felt it wouldn't make a difference if my ammo went up in flames or not), but I eventually managed to kill him.
A moment of respite in the awful grind that vehicle was.

I have fond memeories of me using the PT-76 killing two Tiger IIs by shooting them in the side with APCR. When a vehicle is so bad, you just can't forget something like that happening xD

Once i went ham in the t34-57 and kept killing people from 2km away, then when I died i did the same thing in the PT-76 (because of the drop), i didn't have to expose myself and sat there tracking a tiger 1 over and over because i was too lazy to move my mouse left by a few mm
Try the BM-8 MLRS. Not only poorly armored, not only impossible to aim, not only incredibly expensive, but also incapable of killing anything. Not even joking, I don't know if the pen of overpressure has been nerfed, but I tested it and it was almost incapable of killing even the Panzer II

AMC.34 French tier one light tank. It’s slower than most of the heavy tanks at that tier, it’s got such low armour that it can be sniped by a .50 cal across map and it may be able to get killed by a rifle caliber mg, the gun only has aphe with 24 mm of pen. It is the worst tank unopposed and I’m convinced it’s not on more of these worst tank lists is because no one plays it since it got removed in the low tier France removal.
I actually quite enjoyed the AMC34. Out of all the old reserve and T1 French tank, it was the fastest and the most maneuverable one. Its gun was on par with other reserve French, so its speed was an advantage.
The WORST of the old reserve was definitely the FCM36. Just a slow moving target, nothing more. It’s high turret copula (if you can even call that a copula) made it super easy to shoot, free to pen, and killed the commander right away, totaling the crew because of course, there are only 2 crew members.
Not really sure where you got the « slower » part, really. I even have a camo on it because i played it so often and managed to survive.
It was a chore, but not the worst.

Depends on the player. Some of us are hopeless and exists only to be free food for other players. If not for players like us, war thunder content creators wouldn't be able to have game play footage
@@ryman8989 I'm one of those. Just spawning to be free sl and rp. Mostly spawn camped and spawnbombed or sniped after driving 20 meters. 90 % of time. That's one of the reasons I leaved.
Thats the thing with realistic games, same thing with a semi-realistic fps i like, a gun is a gun, and especially when shot at a weakspot it doesn't care how many lvls higher you are, even with the shitiest gun a shot in the back of the head is pretty decisive.
@@ryman8989 i don't know if i am the only one, but for me playing russian IV tier is being food for other players most of the time, like most of enemies are sniping and russian guns aren't best for sniping long range
M2A2 is one of my worst experiences when playing tanks. Ha-Go isn't good too. The French low rank tanks are actually my best vehicles, but that is maybe because they are my favourite tanks.
Personally even though I love the thing the T-60 is quite bad, it's decent with speed and okay pen for an autocannon, but a 26 second reload combined with a fairly slow turret traverse. It's not not the worst vehicle from my experience but it's definitely up there in class of stats

@@liarnn3767 yeah. But 27mm isn't the worst, I've managed to kill a fair bit, it's just that reload. Reason I say okay pen is because it can kill stuff, but not everything. Plus I use the full ap belt
@@lt-nameless3557 The problem is that you get .50 cals at same BR. Which get much more ammo, reload quickly and usually get fast-rotating turret to boot. Add the part where T-60 canon gets no italian/german treatment (Incendiary AC shells produce no puff, which is actually vital for killing tightly packed crews) and you end up in the world of pain.

Swedish rank 2-3 are carried by stuff like the Delat Törn and STRV 74 tho

I think you also unintentionally proved a point when the tanks you thought were bad, you actually made look good. The point is that an experienced and skilled play can make something punch above it's weight class and overcome many of the deficiencies it might have.
But they are bad - that's the point. The fact that a skilled player (or rather, a player of much higher skill than their opponent) can succeed in a bad vehicle does not make the vehicle any better - it merely illustrates the skill of the user. In the same way, absurdly overpowered vehicles would not be a fair development even if they were for some reason hypothetically only used by totally incompetent players, to manufacture a similar skill gap. This is something somehow lost on people who consider 'underpowered' and 'overpowered' fluid or subjective things rather than objective, statistical realities in terms of balance.
Thats something many said during things like the tiger or sherman videos . That spookston is a very skilled player and can overcome the downsides of nearly every vehicle it uses when debating about the tanks
@@RoughnecksSTCfan If they were so bad, then even a skilled player shouldn't be able to be successful with them. To judge something in War Thunder to be bad or the worst, it really should only be subjected to facing it's peer adversaries, not some made up battle rating system that tries to "balance" things.

The guy one-shots most of what he shoots at and if that were the only video of the vehicle that I've seen, I'd have think that it was something that belongs at the top of the list. Then I see other players dump round after round to take out a T-55 or BMP2, and see a major disconnect. The tank is a tool, how well it lives up to its potential has a lot to do with the player.

And to that end, if you fight with one hand tied behind your back and still manage to win against someone of your same physicality, it does not make your situation any less unfair. It is the same with underperforming vehicles in this context. An awful tank, or aircraft, or weapon, remains awful in its context, regardless of user skill. Any other interpretation is misguided at best.

The AMC.34 YR. APHE with only 27mm of pen point blank, that has thin, non-trolly armor, and is slow. Worse than the H35 by a lot.

US gets 50 cals and stabilisers so you arent allowed to complain about any US vehicles apparently
For me it's the Rooikat Mk.1D, no other vehicle made me so angry. 80% of my deaths were due to not killing/disabling the enemy with my first shot (even if it was well placed), then getting killed before i can even reload. The other 20% were due to gun stabilizer showing me the middle finger in the most important moment.

I liked the specification here. Yeah, you can find the most statistically bad vehicle, but that doesn't make it the worst vehicle. I think finding the worst vehicle by BR was a really good choice.

Have you tried the Panzer III Ausf. B reserve tank? It can be penetrated by a 50 cal, it lacks an electric traverse for the turret, it has the awful german 37mm, it lacks an stabilizer, Etc.

Ikv 103, practically a worse sherman 105 at 5.0 because it gets heat-fs that really doesn't offer more than the stock heat. The most unpleasant grind of the game so far (tortoise was rather unpleasant too but mainly because of module RP costs)
I wholeheartedly disagree. The Ikv103 is a sneaky little shitbox with awesome gun depression that allows for very fun stealth-oriented gameplay (In RB only, of course).
Far worse in the swedish tree is the lago, which has the same gun, and nearly identical armour and performance to it's reserve tank brethren, but with the caveat that you need to complete the full stock grind before you can get sabots. I. E., until you spade it you frequently face tanks you literally cannot penetrate from any angle (KV1, churchill) whilst having armor that literally gets penned by all shells and most machineguns. Meanwhile, it has absolutely zero strengths. It isn't fast, it's a big target, it stands out because of its shit camo, reload speed is trash, it literally has no redeeming qualities.
I'll smile jumping into a 103 but would rather get fisted by the sandman before I touch the fucking lago again.
@@Wolham that's all it's got though sneaking, and with a 10 sec reload if you mess that shot up your in a lot of bother, add in a lack of mg to clear fences and the fact your gunner is vulnerable to ant mgs/arty it's just far worse than anything anything else at its BR. Lago is reserve painful yes but a lot of awful tanks around that BR

Oddly, I'd say the PT-76 in china was one of my favourites, with the Type 63-I being the thing that sucked out all my enjoyment. I'm only now at the Type 59 as my first Chinese Tier V and it does at least get somewhat better at V than it was at III or IV.
Finally someone who realised this, the type 63 is literally a PT with higher br and armour even thinner that you can get machine gunned from the front
The Type-63's only benefit is the HEAT-FS being much better whereas in everything else it's worse in every way to the PT-76
I'm suprised you ever considered the rookikat as a potential worst tank as its an amazing sniper with the laser rangefinder you can quickly get to a high up position and just pick of targets as they struggle to shoot back due to them having to guess the range.

The AMX-40 has to be the worst tank:
The AMX 40 is the same BR as the T-72AV (TURMS) but has non existent armor and lacks penetration, the XM-1 has a lower BR and that tank got better armament and armor than the AMX-40. The tank at stock is a nightmare because you're stuck with the HEAT fin stabilized that can barely penetrate anything and get one shotted by anyone.
To kill an AMX40 you practically need to shoot it with HEATFS otherwise APFSDS will just go through it like paper. It has a very good gun and is very mobile for a "medium" tank. Only bad side is its turret rotates.
I actually love (loved, I don't play wt anymore) the Chinese PT76. The idea that I'm at a large disadvantage to other players makes it more fun imo. The apcr sucks tho
The saddest part about the medium caliber APFSDS nerf is that it was directed at large caliber autocannons like the one on the otomatic. So basically the Rooikat gets a gun that is treated like an autocannon and no thermals at a 8.3 while the PTL02 gets a better gun, better survivability and thermals at 8.0. Truly a spectacle of modern game balance.
Found myself totally distracted by the Gunner Heat,PC! voice clips in the background. Funny as I just downloaded the demo yesterday. Wish WT would update the crew voice clips!
I know this is a more subjective one but imo the Ha Go and I Go Ko can both give the H. 35 a run for its money with their own flaws. The Ha Go for the gun performance and the I Go Ko for having a massive but thin front plate.
They’re honestly both better than than 1.0 France due to having speed and APHE. The I Go gets a HEAT round which will one shot most light vehicles. They are definitely terrible but the French 1.0s are even worse.

I expected the Archer on this one. The only tank in the game where you have to do a 180 to shoot the enemy in front of you.
the valentine archer is incredibly awkward to use but if posted up properly you basically kill anyone you see. the 17 pdr cannon has iirc 177 mm pen from 10 meters away so you’re able to take out anything that you see in its br range, and it can only get uptiered to 3.7
I have a feeling you would do greate even in something like Bob Semple or TOG II if they were added. Your skills are unmatched ( especially compared to mine being extremely low) .

I still remember that HVG spam used to give me a PTSD while playing US, back when most of high tier map still very large and Italy always oppose US and British
My vote goes to the ASU-85, which you have actually covered in a video before. It's like a PT-76 with a better gun and no turret. It's at the same BR (6.3) as the JPz 4-5 despite having inferior stats in pretty much everything. The 85 is a seriously inflexible TD that only does moderately well at long range (>1500m) thanks to its rangefinder and since enemies often struggle to hit your small profile.
It is definitely not great, but i am using it currently and i like that gun so much, and besides if everything else fails you can spot and repair to help your team
Also unlike the pt-76 the grind towards heatfs hasn't been suffering, the stock aphe shell is exelent, to the point that i am wondering if i even want the heat shell
I think you should try a T-60 next time or the FCM.36 ;), H 35 is fairly decent compared to those 2.

My first two ground trees were French and Japanese in that order, and when I finally got my third (UK) I went "huh. so they weren't all supposed to be like that"
Chinese PT-76 is really bad but I still had a blast playing it and spaded it pretty fast. Yes it loses the stabilizer, some turret traverse speed and the Iraqi Camouflage that the soviet one gets but its so bad that each kill feels awesome because you know the enemy had a way better vehicle and you still won. I once managed to get more kills than the entire rest of the players in one battle together, on both teams. It was on Maginot Line and an Uptier and I sniped 3 Cars before anyone else got even one kill and as the battle went on I killed multiple Tiger IIs and other Tanks.
Now, its bad but I wouldnt say its the worst. If you ask me, the worst tank for its BR is the Type 60 ATGM Carrier that Japan gets. Slow, keyboard guided ATGMs, only 6 of them, you cant hit anything close to you because of the angle the ATGMs sit at, no armor or survivability and it isnt particularly fast either. The only saving grace is the .50Cal with which I got more Kills than with the actual ATGMs.
Why did you choose the H35? The FCM36 is slower, and the AMC.34 has even worse pen. Both have worse armor.

Spookston, I want to pose you a serious question: every time everyone complains about the wehraboos, yet I have never seen more than 4 per video in the deepest abysses of the comment section, instead I see “alliedboos” (?) everywhere, that often treat with toxicity people that genuinely like German tanks anyway. Every attempt to point out this ends up in somebody being called names and being dismissed from the conversation. The question is: why is nobody pointing this out? Toxicity is bad, no matter where it comes from, so why some can act this way and get no consequence whatsoever?Is there any way to address this problem?
Its just because, at least in the war thunder community its kind of looked down upon to be a German main though ironically the majority of the game's player base plays Germany.

Yeah ngl American players seem to be more invested in their tanks capabilities than he germans, always complaining about repair costs in their 1k sl M4, 76 teir 3s, meanwhile my loadout cost 8k sl for 2 tanks, one of which is the exact same sherman as in the US tree but 4k sl repairs, exact same thing.

Hey spook, video idea: there is a glitch where if you set your NVD key to be the same as your scope (sniper mode) by entering and exiting that view your 3rd person view will have thermals. i think this was introduced with update game breaking. I can't submit a bug report (for reasons trust me) anyways I'm hoping you will see this and potentially touch on it in a future video. I think it is important to note that unlike the auto-cannon bug this is fully functional (it will make enemy and friendly tanks glow) and can be used in battles. keep up the good content,

Good to know. I got the WMA-301 and was planning to have the PT-76 on my 5.7 lineup but I'll reconsider, gonna try the Chinese M18 instead.
I currently have the PT on my 5.7 soviet line up, basically when all of my other tanks are killed i grab the PT go to the edge of the map and just ammo rack every and any tank
the PT-76 is literally one of my favourite vehicles its so good

I got the PT not knowing of its lack of a STAB and after two games I removed it from my line up and replaced it with the Ki-84
Soviet PT76b is very good. Especially in uptiers. Almost 50% of all enemies can be one shot with heat shell (hull break). Also very low turret profile, somewhat decent ballistics of heat and low cost make it into the fierce warrior. If you scout on it and act as a combat medic you’ll be surprised how effective it would be (without mentioning full stab)
I actually quite enjoyed the Chinese PT, never really had any issues considering its role.
This is either a video in which Sp00kston shows us how good he is with "not so great" tanks, or it either is a "there is no bad tank, there is only a bad player" type of video

The PT-76 in the Armored Warfare meta was so underpowered that it got replaced by the PT-85. The Rooikat is in AW too...

I think I remember seeing Spookston in one of my matches, he snuck around on Ardennes I think when he ammo racked my IS-2 I believe with that Chinese PT-76
would say that the ZUT-37 is the Worst SPAA in the game, but is a alright TD.
The way to play with the PT for me is to just stay with friendlies and either scout or be like supporting fire, but scouting unless you do not have the HEAT.
I like the GHPC crew voices. I know you listed them as private, but would you consider doing some sort of showcase for them?

What's your opinion on the Churchill series of tanks? I had a lot of pain using it because of the gun which was woefully inadequate for fighting against other tanks. It may have been somewhat survivable thanks to the armour, but what good does that do if you can not defend yourself against anything with more armour than a tractor.
Imo chrchill 1 was ok, the churchill 3 had good armor and a good gun with short reload while the 7 can work but it has lot's of problensin uptiers
It would be fun if you made a longer video trying out more bad tanks, like maybe the type 60 or whatever it is called, which isn't a tank, but it is supposed to destroy them
The Chinese PT-76 is the only vehicle I played in the whole game that I have negative K/D ratio, even the L3 and FCM 36 perfom better tier per tier than that thing. Spading it is killing me slowly.

I can't believe Spookston thought the Rooikat would be bad. I'm South African, and that stung me. I'm kidding though, I haven't really unlocked it yet so I don't know what to think of it. Reminded me of one guy from WoT, talking about Grosstraktor i guess, saying how terrible the tank is, while in the background was replays of his battles with about 10 frags per game.
