The bells of Tainate (Italy) toll for the funeral of the beloved parish priest

- The church in Tainate (Italy) is dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and was built at the end of the 15th century on the foundations of a medieval chapel. The bell tower has bells that are still rung exclusively with strings reaching to the base of the tower. Of the three original bells cast in Milan in 1790, only the middle one remains today. The custodian of this church is the mayor of the village.

Three bells played on strings, tuned in the scale of G major:
- minor bell recast in 1906 due to a crack
- original mezzanine bell cast in 1790
- major bell recast for a crack in 1868
The three bells are rung on the occasion of the funeral of Father Paolo Banfi, parish priest of Noviglio from 1988 to 2003, a great lover of bells and culture. The festive ringing consists of striking a wooden keyboard, similar to that of a piano, where each key on the keyboard corresponds to a single bell. The keyboard in this case is portable, assembled for the occasion by the bell ringers. At the end of the festive ringing, a dead man's concert was performed, alternating with some festive musical interludes.
The church was built on the site of an old medieval chapel in front of which peasants working in the fields used to stop. With the development of the small rural village, the church was enlarged to its current size in the second half of the 16th century, which prompted Archbishop St. Charles to grant it the title of parish. In the second half of the 19th century, the church was restored and its interior frescoed, taking on its current appearance. A decree of 4 July 1986 abolished the parishes of Mairano and Tainate, uniting them with the central parish of Noviglio.

Good luck to you in everything! 🍀 thanks for the great comment about these bells and the place; I'll tell you the truth, most of the stairs are made this way, but this bell tower is not that bad, the stairs are made of iron and hold up well. There are other dangerous stairs and the area is full, these are still moderately good

thank you for this very precise and detailed comment; in some Italian villages there is still the custom that politics deals with churches and vice versa, for the protection and well-being of citizens and culture. In the villages where this happens the people are more culturally advanced, happier and better than other countries where traces of this bond are lost. merci pour le super commentaire sur ces cloches et le lieu ; les cloches ne peuvent tourner nulle part en Italie, notamment dans la région de Milan où est né le système ambrosien. Le système Ambrosien monte une butée sur la cloche afin qu'elle puisse sonner des deux côtés, évitant ainsi que la cloche ne bascule, ce qui briserait la corde ou endommagerait les mécanismes
