I think I heard before that Divine was actually scheduled to play Peg's uncle on the show but died before production began.
Yes! He was going to play the uncle which role eventually was filled by pro wrestler King Kong Bundy. A later episode was dedicated to Divine. Divine wanted to play more male roles and this was gonna be a big one they would've got him attention for it. Sad. :-(

Which today she was fired from when it got rebooted only to be replaced by Katy Sagal herself currently. Lmao. I worked at a wig shop on Hollywood Blvd in the mid 90s, kind of right at the peak of Married With Children popularity, and I styled and sold Peg Bundy wigs all the time.

I think it was really her hair in the first season... she's talked about how awful it was... then when they got more budget it was a wig
you can really tell the difference, whenever it was. It’s funny though that it was basically already her hairstyle, just exaggerated. If you see photos of her when she was one of Bette Midler’s Harlettes, at some point during that she had hair that had the basic Peg structure, just shorter and maybe not quite as big

FYI: The 1st season it was her real hair.
It was her hair! Then in later seasons they would pull out her real hair in the front and blend it into the wig. You can tell because she stopped coloring her real hair red and let it go brown. Then Peg would have brown "highlights" on the sides of her face and bangs against the red wig.
I watched it to get Applegate fashion ideas. The bisch was selling it.

My mom had Peg Bundy hair for about 20 years. It was even red. I'd say her hair was stuck in 1987. She's now gone from Peg Bundy red to Karen Bob brunette
