Fahrenheit] upon the viscosity of three grades of oil [ two multi-grades of engine oil (5W-30 & 20W=50), one gear oil [85W-140] and flexible synthetic insulation coated electrical wire along with a few, short mentions about human skin and body cold affects. This was well established over 85 years ago within the US & German Military, thus became MIL-STD post WWII during 1950's. however the API, which contain all of the StdOilInt'l owned petroleum oil producers, corporations, claimed there was no need to use synthetic oil products within the public, commercial engines. They also refused to certify any lubricants except petroleum oil based. This, although they had developed synthetic oil lubricants within StdOilIND, which was thus stopped, shutdown, not continued into production for the public. Perhaps the Mobil 1 [Exxon] (among the StdOilkInt'l corporations)synthetic which began production for public in 1974, years afterwards, was from that StdOilIND development along with the success of the private development, production, distribution, sales, certification, approval of AmzoilAmsoil years prior. The Amsoil synthetic lubrication products are still rated, tested, proven as the best, including compared with other private, independent developers, producers. The only product, company which has 24 mo/ 24k mi warranty along with full testing, comparison data including fleet, long term use. Oil companies are not about to make oil grades for less than 5% of the population who live in the far north BUT some car manufacturers do offer PLUG IN ENGINE HEATERS !
Nick Ontario, Your claims about products not manufactures for such extreme cold are actually false !! This euaqlly applies to the extreme heat along with other conditions too. There are engine, transmission, gear, oil, lubricants developed, produced for the extreme cold for public, commercial use along with MIL-STD Similarly the common anti-freeze 50/50 mixture is useful for -40C/F; with higher portions of anti-freeze, suitable for lower temperatures as per shown, tested, developed. Also an engine heater only handles the engine oil prior to operation, function. There are far more, many important, vital, critical, mechanical components with require lubrication, thus also are certainly affected by the extreme cold as with heat. These include the transmission, differential, gears, spindles, wheel bearings, hydraulic brakes, calipers, clutches, torque converters, steering linkage, ball joints, U-joints, locks, latches, hinges, etc. All The Best, Sincerfely
