You guys should interview David J. Halperin, who has written a book called "Intimate Alien: The Hidden Story of the UFO" where he provides a Jungian model. I have an interview with him on my channel where we talk about this.

    Was waiting for this.
A few months ago, my father told me about a 'ufo' experience he had as a child. Saw what resembled Saturn (a sphere with a ring of lights around it), inside of which was a woman with strange clothes and long blonde hair. At one point she extended her arm toward him, but pulled back midway as if to say he wasn't ready(his words). It sounds a lot like an anima dream, which makes me wonder if perhaps this had an indirect impact on me, somehow. He remembers every little detail, 50 something years after the fact. Never said anything to anyone but me, which is nice to know. He claims to have been fully awake before, during, and after the ordeal, so there was no transition in his consciousness that he could detect. Considering his family was poor enough he didn't know what a tv is, let alone something like Saturn, well into his twenties, i'm inclined to think this wasn't a hallucination. Like a bushman dreaming of terminators, his experience makes little sense when you consider his personal context.
On a related note, Jacques Vallee is about the only person i'm aware of whose explanations attempt to couple the psychological and the physical side of things. Somewhat along Jungian lines, i suppose, though he's not one himself.

I'd love to hear a discussion on the topic of demons and the devil as mythological figures that we project our internal struggles on. For instance when someone says sexual desire is spirits tempting them to sin, but from my perspective it's just biological systems activating or applying pressure for various adaptation/evolutionary reasons. It's especially interesting to me that it seems they had good reason to think it was spirits because the experience of such things can often feel like you aren't yourself when in rage or in love or whatever, often we do things our ego doesn't want to do logically yet we feel "pushed" into doing it, so we project it onto beings pulling our strings.

The fact that our projections and transferences, is what gets in the way of figuring out what these forces really are boggles my mind. Great talk guys 🙏

Great to see and hear such a detailed explanation of an appropriate way to structure one's thinking and processes of analysis and synthesis when it comes to complicated topics such as this one! Using UFOs as an example of a phenomenon with many unknowns and conflicting information it is amazing to see how one can sort what's available and organize reasonable hypotheses and begin to have some ground beneath one's feet. Thank you for another great discussion!

  • @nathanwilliams-prince3127

It's great to hear a depth psychological perspective that is able to look closely at how the psyche projects onto external phenomena, like UFOs, but also how this perspective does not reduce to only psychology, and is open to the possible external reality of those phenomena, whatever it is. Thank you Steve and James for another great video!

  • @ernestberry-songsrestored5637

Thank you. I spent some time looking into ufos. The funnelling of it into the military and so much being promoted FROM the military , has to raise deeper cultural questions and concerns. A wonderful book on the nature of these experiences that includes meeting pixies , jins, etc is by Patrick Harper’s book ‘ daemonic reality’ . He has some very insightful and also critical views on Jung in some of his other books also.

This is really interesting because I never hear or see ufo conspiracy theorists or others online take this perspective that it can be projection for example, and I’ve always taken a similar approach to the matter so it’s satisfying to see this upload. I think it’s significantly more insightful and practical than the typical way people approach it (FBI and government conspiracy for example, which could have truth in it but it only might to a limited extent I feel like). I’ve come to expect this from you guys at this point. Thanks for the interesting video I’ll definitely have to watch this one back.

A fascinating view of an intriguing phenomenon that broadens out into transcendent epistemology and a discussion on the nature of information and consciousness; thank you James & Steve. Some aspects of the world seem to recede at the the same moment that they resolve into focus…

Could you please make a video on procrastination? One of the people close to me is a procrastinator and I just can’t comprehend it - I’m the exact opposite. I’ve been trying to see their attitude as coming from a complex that prevents that person from fully actualising their potential, but there is so much resistance to change that I have an impression it goes deeper than that. I would love to hear your perspective on it!

What an amazing video! I was certainly excited to watch it as, just before starting my training at IPSA last year, a relative of a close friend had described to me her experience of witnessing a UFO over 20 years ago. I listened very attentively and I was told about her recurring dreams about that night which she received for two decades. She had even knitted the patterns that appeared in the sky all those years ago, which are now displayed in her home. Eventually with my training, I had come to the conclusion that whatever the experience was, the message was not understood by her ego consciousness as it shows by the recurrence of the dreams. I greatly appreciate this video, as I found myself thinking back to this story as of late. Thank you for the upload and I must say, the last several videos have been truly amazing. It is great to be in a place where I can go through such content and feel confident with my understanding of such discussions. Bless.

Had been delayed watching this one. I have to agree with James that this conversation was hugely valuable. Personally, I feel it might help contextualize all the "starry skies" metaphors I keep encountering, but I'll have to see.

I've been into the ancient aliens topic for a while. I could never say with certainty what is or isn't true about it. Even though I still can't, this video got me to see why I gravitate towards this kinda thing a bit better. Funny coincidence too, that I started paying attention to this again most recently, having found out about Mauro Biglino who translates the bible word elohim differently from what I was taught and studied growing up. I've also been paying attention to Paul Wallis, who was the first person to ever get me to actually look at the "Jesus in India" stuff. Can't forget of course, Erich Von Daniken. Anyway I still don't know what's true regarding all this, but I'm OK with the uncertainty in contrast with the strong need to know I had years ago. Nice video.

"A Jungian will always find Jungian things when he looks inside, a Freudian will find Freudian things, and Adlerian, Adlerian things. The deep structure complexes of a Freudian and Jungian irrespective of what they see on the inside are based upon their beliefs and their learning rather than what's actually there."
In other words, a deep structure complex is a complex which houses the information that constitutes an individuals "making sense" or interpretation of the unconscious? So it could be either Jungian, Freudian or even religious?
So the danger there of course would be that the information within the deep structure complex could collapse information coming in from the meta-instincts into something that may not be useful to the individual or ego as a whole?

  • @ernestberry-songsrestored5637

I agree about appealing to instincts. The fear element has long been an element that I have seen being developed over many years by the power structure regarding ufos. ( hence the military connection) It’s almost as if the next ‘big threat’ or ‘ event’ is being gradually fed into the cultural narrative , should it ever be needed😁. Although this leans towards conspiracy theorising there is ample real data and cultural support for this view. But of course these things are always multifaceted. Thanks again. ❤️🙏.

JungtoLiveby, I have a question in regards to the rational/creative and exhaustion. Is it possible for one to be exhausted of rational behavior thus compelling one to pursue their creative side and vice versa?
I ask because I have a passion for something that is more rational whilst also having a passion for pursuing the creative, thanks.

    • @JungToLiveBy
      @JungToLiveBy  Před 2 lety +3

Hi dd cakez, 'rational' reflexive based (Ego cognition) is only one phase state of consciousness. Affect-based consciousness is a-priori to cognition, and even then, the vast majority of cognition is 'unconscious' which then 'represents itself into awreness. There is a third phase state of consciousness, independent of both affect and cognition, and this is most closely associated to true creativity. If you listen to many hyper-rational inetrnet guru psychologists, they claim rationality for their thinking, but its clearly embedded in a matrix of affect, that shows they are only minimally conscious, of what it is that they think they 'create', with their own thoughts. Jung pointed this out a hundred years ago. Words are not thoughts (thinking) they;re a 'representative state' of information processing, in various superpositioned states, that are upstream of the later 'after-thoughts', that a self-preoccupied Ego, regards as beng authored by itself. Kindest Regards, Steve & Pauline🙏🙏

@@JungToLiveBy Thank you very much, quite intriguing. I've been thinking about joining the discord one day since depth psychology has been of great interest of mine. I've been debating with myself if I want to be a depth psychologist but I feel creativity may be my true calling. Regardless, Thanks for the work. 👍
