Right? I would never even consider a Pro variant before just because of the size, but now I'm tempted to go ahead a buy one just to show Google that the demand is there, although I much prefer the matte side rails of the base model and do not really need the extra features.

I’d have to see what the battery life is like first. The non-pro pixels are usually average at best for battery, and I’m worried that the pro specs could be an issue. It’s the same reason the iPhone pro is really the worst-selling iPhone.

Couple of things that irk me:
    1. It's evident the best part of Gemini AI is tucked behind a paywall so it's nice that everyone gets it free to begin with but then when they lose it it'll feel worse off.
    2. The pricing is messed up because last years 8 Pro was bumped to £999, which means they should've kept this years 9 Pro XL at £999 (as it's roughly the same size), and put the regular Pro at £849 which is what the 7 Pro was priced at, which is also a rather comfortable price point.
So the P9 at £699, the P9P at £849, and the Pro XL at £999.

I'm not planning to upgrade my 8 Pro this year just because I'm holding out for the TSMC chips in a few years. As much as I love my Pixel, Tensor is the biggest letdown in these phones. The fact that it's average in terms of battery and performance and still produces stellar performance is a testament to how good Google has optimized the Pixel experience. The Pixels are one flagship processor away from becoming the best Android phone on the market, imo.

My pixel 8 pro was in a case since day 1, and when i remove the case to clean my phone, i notice some stress points that the case causes on the sides. And at some points, i notice scratches. Im so annoyed that google keeps designing their phones with chrome finish. The matte/brush finish would make the phone more durable. Nobody target the last year buyers as their new phone main target, they are give you the longer support, becaude they admit it the changes are slowed down, since the phone have almost everything already, hard to put a new and worthy upgrade inside, even the design changes sliwed down, they have datas how often the users switch devices, and they are only target the big enough changes in that (3-6 years) period, so the next phone what the average customer will buy will be enough different from the previous model.

I am not able to form a "complete" opinion about how to think about making a flagship android phone purchase, because on one hand the Pixels cost more this year than they did last year - purely hardware to hardware the upgrades seem minimal. On the other hand, they both will potentially get 7 years of OS updates, not just security updates. Oh and I almost forgot that the Pixel 8 Series & Pixel 9 series now both have launched with Android 14, so now I am thinking they're both going to see end of life software updates at the same time? On top of that I don't know if Google will maintain the Pixel Feature Drop for the full duration of OS updates (hardware limitations aside). The time scale we're looking at is unprecedented, I hope the coverage of new launches take these things into account.

Wait in *3-5 months* time as the price of these #Pixel9Series *drop* significantly (like most Android devices). By that time most of the launch date software bugs and hardware manufacturing issues would've already been fixed.
Could've been the *very issue why they weren't* loaded with the latest #Android15?? The AI features have only been tested fully on Android 14. (Watch the glitch during the Pixel event).
Now it's only 6 years of update support (instead of 7) cos it still comes with last year's OS.
In'nit, the very reason you're buying these new devices is to get the latest and greatest features *already included* ?? Why would you *want to pay extra* for an AI subscription?? Isn't that the latest feature of these phones??
So early adopters are always paying more for less. Agreed, with all the media consumption and AI features @Google should've provided 256 GB as the base level storage.
The #PixelFold2 is still a *niche* item for its $1800 price tag. It still continues to run behind their Pro Series in hardware specs. Why would you pay more for lesser specs? And few weeks later you'd be bored opening and closing the Fold.
