every image is sellable, it just depends on your target demographic, "artsy" and "unconventional" is just as much an image as "couture" or "preppy", everyone sells themselves to a point. People that just wear whatever is around just look like whatever...Do you think lady gaga dresses like that to express her individuality? It's telling that she said they basically made the keyboardist and drummer wear makeup on stage and odd clothes, that reflects an image obsession, not a natural expression.

Just listen to their lyrics attentively: they call God a female, they cover a classical Christian song in an extremely mocking way, they use biblical events characters in rather inappropriate context. But, in the same time, the image of God in their songs is one of the most ravishing ever. This is what real art is about. That's exactly what they say in one of their interviews too. How religion has destroyed the image of God...they believe in Him, but they don't follow a religion and their image of Him is very unique. They are so awesome!
@boinkn26 you know, those two notions are not necessarily mutually exclusive =) but seriously, I think they just know how to put it right, they play with all this incest thing, but never overdo, so that people are just left with a vague intriguing feeling. I like it about them a lot!

to be honest, I'm not quite fond of their looks too, my personal opinion is that they looked much better in 2004-2005, but I'm okay with it, and, as I have already said, it doesn't matter what they wear or do since they're making such beautiful music. Baby Dee, for instance, looks much weirder than these two, but who cares, if her music is simply amazing?
