EP 7 Cashew Factory visit in Mangalore | A to Z of how cashew is processed in factory

  • During our Coastal Karnataka tour, we visited a Cashew factory by the name Mangala cashew to learn about the process of cashew processing,.
Initially we were looking at making a short 2 minute video and doing an integration of the same in one of the videos of Mangalore but when i reached there i realised that this is a long process, so covering it in 2 minutes will not carry any meaning for us or for viewers.
    cashew factory contact numbers
    Mangla cashew: 91-824-2481177 , 2481785 , 2481802
so we decided to making a dedicated video on this subject. This video on cashew processing has all the necessary details and information that can help anyone learn about how cashew is processed from nut to kernel.
Hope you will enjoy watching this episode and this has loads of information and knowledge.
    Thanks for your time
    Harish Bali

Cashew has many varieties, and each has its own unique taste; only people who grow them will able to tell you more about it. I still remember my childhood days in Mangalore, myself, my sister, cousins and friends from the neighbourhood used to collect the cashew nuts during our summary holidays from our plantation and put them in the charcoal fire to crack them open to eat the nuts (very sweet memories). The nuts fried in this charcoal fire gives them a unique aroma through which you can distinguish the taste of the nuts from different trees. We used to have had few favourite cashew trees of which nuts were more tasty and our parents use to keep them for preparing payasa/kheer (sweet pudding) during the festive season of that year, especially during Bisu/Ugadi.

      Deepak Kumar
India imports unshelled raw cashews from several countries as shown in the above video....that's because, I understand that these countries do not have the knowhow or the processing equipment to process unshelled cashews.
However, India also is the largest ( or the second largest ) producer of locally grown ( unshelled ) cashews which goes through the same shelling process as shown in the above Mangalore factory .
Some 300, 000 tonnes of these shelled raw cashews are then exported worldwide.
Additionally, a similar tonnage of these shelled cashews are consumed locally, either in a raw state or as Roasted & Salted...
So, , India, is a very large producer of this premium nut.....I believe Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka are the main areas where cashew plantation are in abundance

This is great. I remember when I went for a spice farm tour in Goa they told us about acidity in the nut . Also I believe the oil is extracted by a lot of traders making the cashew useless in terms of nutrients but not sure how true that is?!?

Somebody gave you false information, what oil are you exactly speaking ? The shell contains a lot of oil which is not consumable and its not good for skin.it literally burns the skin ,dont know wht oil you are speaking about
Cashews are being processed from ages, they are good for health ,what you are saying is false and not acceptable

There is no oil in cashew ,oil is only present in shell which is extracted for different purpose ,get your facts right

I have watched cashew grow on trees ,tasted cashew apple which is very juicy ,very flavourful and strong aroma. I have roasted cashewnuts collected from trees by placing clay pot with small hole in bottom on fire in open backyard and roast them .Whole thing is so exciting specially when suddenly whole clay pot catches fire bcoz of acid released from shell and at that point claypot is removed from fire, cooled and nuts broken, peeled and eaten. Awesome memory. Whole thing came refreshing alive once again watching this commercial side of cashew processing factory.
Thank you Harish bali ji for wonderful video and ofcourse factory manager was very nice humble polite person.
