Finally, someone says “being mean towards someone isn’t going to make them like you” it’s such a big problem these days and why so many people get hit with the phobic words and get a tidal wave of harassment sent after them
These morons going out of their way to act like that just made it worse for everyone. Normal folks will hesitate engaging in such topics or be driven to the polar opposite, maybe push back just as intensly. All these MAGA-wannabes are the way they are because they've been pushed to a bunch of nutjobs who had the very easy task of not going nuclear right away. Now theres more lunatic "western traditionalists" and the people the brigaders tried to "help" are worse off
If someone calls you an "ism/ist these days just own it. "You called me a racist, transphobic, anti-semitic bigot. Ok. I am one. Now what?". Watch how quickly people shut down and the gears in their heads stop turning when they realize the little buzzwords don't work anymore. The words they use have power only if you give the words power.
Funny thing is, I’m not on Twitter even though I’m tracking this stuff. The VAST majority of gamers I know don’t even know this crap is happening. 99% of my friends don’t know what a TERF is, but they DO know what Arvada Kadavra does.

I had an argument a few days ago with people who said how bad JK is and they just stopped talking with anyone defending this game, and then proceeded to play a TENCENT game. wild world we live in.
Yeah, that's a big reason why I'm not going too hard on people for playing this game. I'm choosing not to play it myself for those reasons, but I know its just going to cause more harm in the long run to get hard on people. I'm disappointed to see all the hype around this game, but oh well.

@@TheWaverunners why? People love this game. The hype is deserved. What isn't deserved is all the hate it's bringing from online virtue signaling trolls
I feel the stuttering comes from the devs going hard on "no loading" at the castle so basically the game tries to process everything closer to you as fast as it can. I may be wrong tho but just a thought
too many npcs and "events" happening in a single place, what they should have done is added a "population" slider to settings so that people with stutters can reduce the ammount of npcs in populated areas like hogsmead and hogwarts.
Yeah, it seems pretty clear they made the game with adult HP fans in mind, which I did not expect going into the game blind. The sorting hat ceremony seems to be directly talking to those of us who grew up fantasizing about going to Hogwarts. The story, so far, is fairly dark. I was shocked at how casually they start killing characters and the opening cutscene was really well done in how they handled this.
I remember playing Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban on the PS2 and was flabbergasted by the amount of exploration in that game. Hogwarts Legacy is bringing back those memories.
@@litrogue6328 really don’t let people’s opinions rule my life so no not really. You should try it out. Harry Potter is a legendary book series and J.K. Rowling is an amazing writer no matter what ya think of her opinions. This isn’t the 1600s, witch hunts won’t work on a billionaire 🙌🏻
I'd like to remind people that the creators of HL denounced JK's views and confirmed she had pretty much nothing to do with the game outside of creating the world its in And on top of that also reached out to trans organizations to talk to them about the game, which they really didn't need to do but did anyways
A VA who voiced 12 characters in the game is a Trump-supporting anti-feminist who spread revenge porn of his wife, is banned from seeing his children, AND had a restraining order against him for domestic violence, one of the lead designers used to run an anti-SJW gamergate CZcams Channel, the token trans character (as if being named SIRona RYAN wasn't enough of a red flag) is referred to as "MrGirl" in the game files, and all money spent on any merch and media related or adjacent to Harry Potter still goes to Rowling no matter how much you "don't support" or "denounce" her "views". edit: Forgot to mention that one of the "Goblin artefacts" in the game is literally a shofar, and the date when one of the goblin rebellions happened is also the same as when one of the pogroms against jewish people happened. Also, Rookwood cursed Anne and professsor Fig dies in all endings.
Right? I personally don’t agree with people going trans but the idea that the trans community hates this game for all it does to try and support them is ridiculous to me. Granted not all trans hate this game but it’s still wild that this discussion has to happen.

The best thing an adaption can do is make you appreciate the original source. So I'd call this a really good game if it's the case that someone outside of Harry Potter can appreciate the universe
Yeah this is what has happened to my hubby. He has never read or watch HP, but my daughter wanted the game, and I found him up until early hours of this morning playing it -he’s loving it and asking questions about the lore etc. so funny to see
I've seen three types of people when it comes to Hogwarts Legacy: The ones pro boycott, the ones against boycott, and those who are actually interested in the game regardless of the controversy, and that last group is one of the most wholesome bunch I've seen, one of the Tweets I saw was of a girl who had her own custom diary for the game where she was going to write what she played. That's just so cute to me
it’s because JK Rowling is transphobic is why people are boycotting but she’s always been and why suddenly boycott her now she already made millions, people are stupid
The Aesop fable of the Sun versus the North Wind is a great example of the foolishness of thinking that you can bully someone into agreeing with you. The more the North Wind blew on the man the more the man held tighter to his coat. It took the Sun just being sunny and bright and doing its thing to get the man to lose his grip. When I drew closer to certain people it's because of their positive energy, not because they bullied me into accepting something they support. I have people who I speak to every day that I don't agree with entirely, yet I don't desire harm to them. In fact, having someone taking a different look at something might alert me to another view I didn't consider but at the end of the day it's still up to me to decide my own thoughts and opinions because I am an independent thinking individual.
I was a kid who grew up obsessed with Harry Potter, and my roommate hasnt seen a single film, and yet we’ve both been playing the game and loving it. It does a great job of having little hints and references that only the hardcore fans will get, while also being welcoming and fun to people who know nothing about the series.
I bought the deluxe edition and as a non Harry potter fan (havent watched the films but ofc heard of HP) it is a blast playing the game. And YOU CAN PET THE CATS AND THEY HAVE BASS BOOSTED PURRS LMAO

thank you for this. i literally just had a best friend of 10 years decide to not talk to me anymore because i was excited to play this game. (which they knew i bought back in november and never said anything until monday) if they were that quick to drop me as a friend when they know i don’t support j.k. rowling, then i guess i was never their friend to begin with 🤷🏼♀️
had a similar experience where some close friends i knew for 3 years "silently" dropped me immediately over a minor disagreement, so i can feel the pain..i'm sorry it had to happen to you like that, and on such a long scale too. Being friends is knowing when to call out each other's mistakes while knowing to respect people's beliefs even if they don't align with your own, and it's evident that they could not hold basic respect for you. At its best, it's better that they showed their actual self and left, you dodged a huge bullet.

4:40 I feel the same way. I was never a fan of the Harry Potter story but always felt the universe was really f'ing cool. The game excels at focusing on the universe that was created before it.
same here it's why the later movies and books dropped off so hard for me, because it just turned into a generic battle of good vs evil with fights focuses around clauses in a prophecy and the mechanic of an immortality spell. Same, who doesn't like to be an ubermench wizard with subhuman slaves lmao. Okay jokes aside, the universe IS pretty cool and cozy, i just hope you can sit in the game.

I used to participate a lot in debates on forum sites back in the late 2000s up to the early 2010s. Exposure to so much toxicity eventually got to me. My then-deteriorating mental health, loneliness and lack of a social life outside of the Internet, having the power to speak/express myself which I lacked in the real world, having people who supported/validated me which I also lacked itrw, and the great feeling from winning an argument are likely contributing factors (but not excuses for being toxic). When I finally realized what it had turned me into and what I was doing to those around me, I finally quit it. Been avoiding most online debates since. Every now and then, tho, I'd catch some debates involving the same people and wonder why they haven't yet figured out that you can't just fight hate with hate, or bully someone into agreeing with you, or insult someone for simply being ignorant about something and expect them to still listen to you afterward. I'm glad I'm finally out of it. I feel utter shame and regret for what I did and said my apologies, and I've grown and improved a lot as a person and a mental health warrior, but I'm still paying the price for the crap I did years ago. It’s hard to find a review about the game Reviews on Rowling are easy though Half of the problem is that the people who WOULD review the game normally are scared shitless of the terrorist organizations known as “the Twitter hate mob” and “cancel culture” (and I wouldn’t be calling them terrorist organizations if I felt that fear wasn’t justified) The other half is that you get reviews of Rowling, not the game
Everyone draws the line somewhere and that line is usually where it impacts them. As you said, we all do it. Phones, clothes, drinks, food, etc. At the end of the day, you just have to be able to live with the choices you're making and move along
I haven't bought the game for myself yet, but I watched my significant other play it for about an hour while he was just wandering around the school, doing random side quests. I got to see a few shops in Hogsmeade. The level of detail in this game is incredible. When talking to NPC's it feels like a real conversation because they talk with realistic movements. The only reason I don't have it yet is because of my budget for games for the month going towards Sons of the Forest when it gets released here soon. Let's be honest. It is alright to boycott something because since the reasons behind it are reasonable, but bullying people into not playing it is just a douche move. It just causes even more grievance and makes people wish to go against you more.

The game is very CPU heavy on some areas. I noticed most of the stuttering occurs on Ryzen CPUs. My friend has a Ryzen 5800 and he noticed a quite bit of stutter on this game around Hogsmeade and some areas in Hogwarts. My computer has an i9 10850k and it stutters a little bit around the Astronomy tower in Hogwarts but is fine everywhere else.

To me, boycotting something only makes sense if it's directly negatively affecting the person or entity you're trying to. JK Rowling has put no time or money into this game, and boycotting it would not affect her at all. My thinking is, if the person you're trying to harm is exactly the same before and after a "boycott" (Same amount of money, no time lost etc), then you've completely missed the point of a boycott.

I have to disagree a little bit just because of how serious that hypothetical is. Boycotts don't work on scale in reality, you can bully a local business in a community, but this game was never going to get boycotted with how wide the market reach is. To not sell copies of this game would be MASSIVE public shaming towards Rowling. She'd be spiralling over that. Can transphobia logically exist in that hypothetical situation?
I think its perfectly fine to pick hills to die on.

How is it great that this “discussion is happening” it’s completely psycho I think you’ve spent to much time on twitter.

Let's be honest. It is alright to boycott something because since the reasons behind it are reasonable, but bullying people into not playing it is just a douche move. It just causes even more grievance and makes people wish to go against you more.
Thats Activism for you Liz . Activists dont get that at one or another point in their lives their POW on things is gonna conflict with every single person alive. And their THICC heads cant comprehend that fact.
>since the reasons behind it are reasonable
No they aren't
It's common sense everywhere knowing what a woman is. And this game has NOTHING to say about it or any political message
Attacking the game because of JK Rowling is also stupid, as she was always a far lefty feminist, she doesn't stop being one because she's against chopping off genitalia
@neosdanger6213 I'll take your word.
I thought of this for a bit, "Does J.K. even get most of the profits from the game? Sure it is based on her story so she gets some but how much does she make from sales?"
Though I lack enough information to make a judgment on that part.
Thank you! why can't people understand it's not unreasonable to not want to consume a product if u don't like it's creator lol it's like they take my personal dislike as an attack on themselves. Buy the game! I do not care if you play or enjoy it! Just don't be a hypocrite and start coming at *me* for simply drawing a personal boundary or stating my personal opinions which aren't targeted at anyone besides jkr herself. Smh
>reasonable to boycott an unrelated game because someone stated facts
Did not expect Bully to be mentioned, such a gem back in the days
The game is very CPU heavy on some areas. I noticed most of the stuttering occurs on Ryzen CPUs. My friend has a Ryzen 5800 and he noticed a quite bit of stutter on this game around Hogsmeade and some areas in Hogwarts. My computer has an i9 10850k and it stutters a little bit around the Astronomy tower in Hogwarts but is fine everywhere else.
Whether it's about a video game and ethics or any other topic. A lot of the time it's not the topic itself, it's how you react to that topic that matters
Unfortunately this isn't fully correct because she still gets lots of profits from this game and it's been proven she uses these profits in her TERF organization :( it's hard to separate the art from the artist when the art is being used to further the views of the artist
@@Babycat42069 she also basically says that anyone who consumes harry potter stuff directly supports her cause. no other unethical author or company (all of them) does this.

Very well said. Even if the boycott worked and nobody bought this game, JK Rowling is still a billionaire regardless.

this is the only valid point tbh. everyone in these comments is being blatantly transphobic but this is a good point. boycotting this game does nothing to hurt jkr so its just kinda pointless
I will be okay if I don't get Hogwarts Legacy, I've been okay dodging Activision-Blizzard games for the last couple of years - these have been easy hills to die on. 'Ethical consumption' is hard because as you said, so much of what we use every day is sourced unethically - however, its okay for separate people to pick separate hills to die on. I need to have a washer and dryer, I don't need the newest call of duty game - I need a smartphone for my job, I definitely don't need chik-fil-a. I recognize and accept mine is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, but I don't want to give them my drop.

The FPS issues and stuttering I suffered on PC I solved by setting DLSS to Auto and Removing all Ray Tracing. I was back up to 120 FPS, and at Hogwarts 80 FPS. So it took me roughly 4 hours to figure out how to solve it on my end. It wasn't easy.

A very important note is JKR has no creative input in HL which is the best case scenario to tell the story of the Wizarding world with a different lenses and perspective. I see it more supporting the dev team behind this game than supporting Rowling.
