GabrielKnightz They lost their chicks and are so overcomed with sadness that they try to replace their chick with a new one. They aren't that far off from humans if you really think about it
True but there clearly is something more primal and biological at work than just emotion, the 'urge' as he put it leads them to more often than not trample the baby, that hardly seems understandable.
