  • Fisherman's village in Funchal is a traditional fishing village inspired Winston Churchill, during his stay in Madeira. The famous politician used to stay at Reid's Palace. He regularly went to Camara de Lobos to paint fishing boats, nets and fish that hang drying in the open air as well as its fishermen, playing cards before leaving for the sea.
The municipality of Camara de Lobos, owes its name to the many seadogs that lived there before in that part of the island. Unless an optical illusion you will not find a single one on the island nowadays (they now live on the wild island in front of Madeira). However, that village is worth a visit for its authenticity and the landscape that inspired one of the most famous Europeans.
