    So basically, get cheap table top glass, think about design to cut wood costs and use fiberglass strips with epoxy to cut costs.

    I just finished building a 125 out of Russian birch and sealed it with a mansaonary waterproofer I got from Home Depot, mainly started as a test to see if the waterproofer would work for this but since it ended up working nicely and looking good it’s now in my room lol.

    ive got my 7ft tank running for around a year now and went similar routes in terms of what i could save on, DIY'd the stand sump.. drilled the tank .. and its been running well for now .. .. with my Arowana getting neat 22" and the Peacock bass near 15" .. a plywood setup might be my next option

    I live in California, where we have had water restrictions for years. We are now allowed 50 gallons of water per person per day. If we exceed that, our water bill gets crazy expensive. Sadly, I had to dump my big tanks, and now all I have is a 29-gallon.

      @stevoevo62 Před 11 měsíci

      What county do u live in.

    • @satguy
      @satguy Před 11 měsíci +1

      @stevoevo62 Why, where do you live? California is in the United States. The laws establish a standard of 55 gallons per person per day until January 2025 and then goes to 50 gallons per person per day. Here's part of an article on the subject from the Los Angeles Times.
      Several months ago, Rosario Rodriguez faced a financial dilemma that has become all too common for millions of drought-weary Californians - either pay the electric bill, which had skyrocketed to about $300 during a scorching summer in western Fresno County, or pay the $220 combined water, sewer and trash bill.
      “Our water is expensive, even though we can’t drink it because it’s contaminated,” Rodriguez said in Spanish.
      In the end, Rodriguez opted not to pay the electric bill from May to July, knowing she could get help from the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission, a local nonprofit. No such assistance that she knew of was available for water, however.
      For a family of four living off $25,000 a year, a water bill of more than $200 a month is an economic burden. Now, with 1 in 10 California households falling into arrears on water payments, calls are mounting for the state to step in and help.
      “If we had a water discount, we’d have a little extra money for food or to buy our daughters clothes, shoes and other things they need for school,” said Rodriguez, whose family rents a home in the rural, unincorporated community of El Porvenir.

      There are too many variables and questions about the build I'd need to know before I can answer exactly what you'd need but acrylic shouldn't be used u should use glass and if u did use acrylic it would need be way thicker acrylic than 3/4 at that height.

    I’m curious everyone’s experience on longevity of plywood tanks? I’m considering building one, but my gut tells me they will won’t make it past 10 years or so.
    Of course how well it was built in the first place will influence this greatly, but let’s assume it’s was built correct with no major design or craftsmanship flaws?

      10 yrs is great. A lot of glass tanks don't make it that long. I'd expect and hope for 5 and possibly plan on draining and resealing after that. But all depends on who builds it. It's hard to use any one person's build example
