      bone shrinkage isnt a problem if u plan on staying there
      u can even return, but thats when u´ll notice the decrease in bone mass
      having 60% of your bone mass isnt that bad when ur bones have to carry about 60% of your old weight
      as far as food / water supply is concerned food -> yes water not really with the equipment that is available today
      *that beeing said* mars shouldnt even be close in terms of comfort to earth yea

    I don't think it's a money thing.. I went thru a major prepping phase when I realized how dependent I was on all the services around me. I was terrified I wouldn't be able to take care of my family in an emergency and ended up learning a lot of really cool skills/strategies that are fun AND useful. Also, we live in Arizona so water supply is just common sense.

    Prepping can certainly look insane when the thing being prepared for is the end of the world. That said, some preparation for the hardships that might actually happen (natural disasters, power outages, job loss) can make living through those hardships a lot easier.
    Thats why the criticism of having bags packed for your family is a little off. Having a few changes of clothes and necessities packed and ready would be very helpful in many situations. I don't know where the person you reference in your video lives, but particularly in places with natural disasters like hurricanes, it can be very helpful to have your bags packed already so you can get ahead of the evacuation traffic. When there is a call for a large scale evacuation, there are often traffic related fatalities (either from driving in the heavier stop/go traffic or heat exhaustion when you run out of gas because traffic has been at a standstill).

    • @wezul
      @wezul Před 7 lety +5

      It's also good to have a bag packed in case your house is on fire, if you don't have a fireproof safe. A bag with your passports, car titles, social security cards, and other important documents, placed by the bed, is good so you can grab it in case you need to get out quick. Having food and water on hand is also good for, as you mentioned, hurricanes. It's not like Puerto Rico is a "third world country" - and yet now the infrastructure has been destroyed. Many people won't have electricity for six months or more, and food and water are hard to come by. Suddenly having more than a few days worth of food (and a way to cook it w/o power) and water doesn't sound so crazy, does it? Mid- to long-term infrastructure collapse isn't as uncommon as some people think!

    Meh, I don't think it's selfish to buy things and/prep for disaster just because they are rich. I have a bug out bag, but I'd probably invest in whatever else I could if I had the money.
    You should look out for you and yours in a bad situation. Even on a plane they say you should secure your own oxygen mask before helping others.
    I'm also of the opinion that you should help others, of course, but since I think it's a normal human emotion/reaction to save yourself I wouldn't call these people selfish or think they're feeling guilty for being wealthy.
    Really awesome ideas for prep though lol Lucky them for having cool stuff. I'm jealous.

      I think the point is there are some people who could solve a lot of the problems that might bring on apocalyptic conditions by investing their disproportionate wealth in the well being of the world around them, but instead stay fixated on preserving their own small life and invite the disaster for everyone else to suffer, then sneak out to their private fortress because they can. Which makes them less deserving of surviving.

Energy never disappears, you consciousness will always remain. I can't tell you where that plane is though, it could be heaven, hell, pergatory, or an astral plane. There is an afterlife though. Personally I am not scared of death because in my heart I do believe in life after death.

    im not really worried about "the end of the world" scenario, but i have been thinking about preparing an emergency kit once i have been working for a year or two.
    while i say emergency "kit", im basically talking about having a chest that contains a hiking bag, some long term survival tools (flint or lenses, strainer, survival knife etc.) a one man tent and food that stays good for a long time etc.
    because even if there might not be an apocalyptic event happening in our lifetime it is better to be prepared for catastrophes such as war or famine that will not happen rather than not being preparred if it actually do happen.

    "What can I do"?
    According to the experts you should:
    1. Garden with sustainable agriculture techniques (less pesticides and fertilizer (organic or better yet permaculture)).
    2. Buy food and manufactured goods made locally
    3. Pay down debt
    4. Learn skills they will be useful in the future and make friends that have useful skills you don't have (related to providing food, water, shelter, and medical care. A necessary skill is organic/permaculture gardening/farming). Very important: medical skills are the best way to ensure your survival. All others will gladly sacrifice their life to protect your life, so you are around to use your medical knowledge to keep their families alive.
    5. I recommend to invest some money into technologies to increase the "carrying capacity" of the planet (high risk investments);
    A. decrease environmental impact per capital
    B. alternatives for our food system input to improve production
    C. alternatives to our current living arrangements,
    D. alternatives to our plastics industry,
    E. alternatives to disaster capitalism
    F. "Savior technologies", ie faster-than-light travel, "game changer" technologies, ie Cold fusion energy & "delaying technologies", ie deep drilling technologies.
    6. I also recommend you inform and prepare your family, friends, and others. It is best to initially suggest people have an emergency kit... for any emergency such as flood, earthquake, tornado, hurricane, loss of electricity due to a winter storm. Then, if the friend or relative puts together a disaster kit, what I do is introduce Peak Oil (by telling them of the 43 second movie trailer m.natgeotv.com/ca/2210-thecollapse/videos/collapse-of-earth , the "National Geographic Collapse" movie on CZcams, & free book downloads;

    you have grossly misunderstood and misrepresented preppers. I'm a prepper, I'm not rich, I don't have a bunker, or even a wall with barbed wire. but I do: improve my fitness, learn tactics, study hard in languages (you never know who your friends and enemies will be), study hard in medicine, study hard in mechanics and practise it every time my bike breaks. and above all that: I do lots of something that's very similar to science, I do so much biology to teach me how to better train my body and brain. I do lots of experiments every week and because I'm a prepper I have discovered so many things that are also useful today. I thought that according to you science was a good thing? and also I have studied so much about leadership, ethics and although I'm bad at this last one: reasoning with people (but no one's really good at that) so I don't try to hide from improving the world and throw innocent people into tyranny. if I could get 2 or 3 friends who I know wouldn't betray me... then great (sadly I've just got a bad back story with people taking advantage of me, so I'm a lone wolf prepper for now) but basically... preppers are good for discovery and invention, and preppers are good for society.

    I find your sentiment of "They're helping themselves so they must feel guilty about their wealth" pretty insulting. Isn't it possible that they're preparing to care for themselves and loved ones while ALSO doing what they can to avert disaster? Are they mutually exclusive? You're intimating that these people are somehow crazy or even somewhat evil for preparing for bad situations, while also mentioning studies that say maybe people are doing this so that they feel like they have control over something in their lives. I don't belong to the prepper community at large, but I do what I can to be prepared for natural disasters and other chaotic situations. This doesn't mean I'd happily watch the rest of the world go down in flames.
    You're both entitled to your opinions, but more and more lately I've been finding your videos to be misinformed and highly biased. I've recently had to consider unsubscribing to both of your channels because of this, which is very disappointing. I hope you do better in the future.

    • @steelbreeze420

    • @wezul
      @wezul Před 7 lety +20

      Steelbreeze420 - Yeah I got that vibe too. I realize that some people live paycheck to paycheck and don't have the resources to buy extra stuff (I was in that boat for many years) - but there are also people who DO have the resources, and choose not to spend those resources to prepare for potential disasters. Their choice to do what they want with their money, but I have less sympathy when disaster hits and they're like "OMG who knew it would've been better to prepare for disaster rather than spend thousands of dollars on (insert frivolity here)?"

    • @freshgreenjello6431
      @freshgreenjello6431 Před 7 lety +9

      Indeed. The video seems quite poorly researched especially since it seems mostly middle class or less well-do families tend to preppers, either to learn new skills or for extra resources.

    • @ThrustingPickle
      @ThrustingPickle Před 7 lety +4

      Sapphire You said everything perfectly. I am not wealthy and only 19 but I have always been interested in prepping because a little work now is a huge leg up later. Also with their gun video I felt it was super biased and ignored the rise in crime while shouting "Look at the gun violence! It went down!" really a shame. These guys used the make great videos.

    • @wezul
      @wezul Před 7 lety +6

      Alexandria - I look at it as a percentage of income (or percentage of discretionary spending). The super-rich have more disposable income, and therefore can spend significantly more on disaster preparation. The middle-class have less discretionary spending than the super-rich, and so the portion of discretionary spending allotted to various individual "niches" may vary as well. Households with lower income often have little-to-no disposable income. All that said, it's worth comparing people within the same income-class, and how much of their resources they devote to planning for the future, versus spending in the present.
      I'm not under the impression that Mitch & Greg were purposely intending to insult anyone; I simply find much of their recent content to be under-researched and/or heavily biased. I have to agree with Pickle here, their two channels have just gotten lower in quality. I feel like their video titles and discussion topics have become click-baity and shallow. The recent video "Who has it worse?" is a prime example. As if there needs to be a winner and loser, or that a given population segment's experiences with prejudice can be quantified and compared as "better or worse" than how other segments are treated. It's extremely juvenile and not a productive way of thinking about it. Which of course they /realized that/, because they completely avoided talking about who "had/has it worse" anywhere in the video.

Plus I studied and tested all the things in it so I can maintain it all together, how to identify metals, how to make a tool that ditects radiation and I have a title on electronics to make my own radio and EMP defence ..........all so I dont have to pay bills and repairs.

      Rich people have an obligation to help other people because they have the resources to make a difference. I'd like to believe that regular people given the resources to help others would do so. Money doesn't stay with you after you die and we will all die. So why not use all of your resources to help prevent disasters? You can still live quite comfortably with 10 million dollars, almost all Americans go through their entire lives only earning around less than 2 million, and many are still able to live happy lives.

    • @samuel030s
      @samuel030s Před 7 lety +11

      I never said that. You're missing the point of my initial comment entirely. Those who have the large amounts of money could actually help people long-term without sacrificing how comfortably they lived. In your scenario, if I sold all my nonessential items to fund a food package, it might a feed an entire community in a majority world country for a week max. Then they'd still be without food and I'd have no luxuries. Wealthy people could fund research and teach people in majority world countries how to improve the quality of their lives, and still be left with plenty of money to buy and live in a luxurious home and not *have* to work a day in the rest of their lives to pay bills or to buy food and water. Hopefully this explanation clears your confusion a bit.

      The Enchanter what's a luxury for you is a necessity for them. Case in point, people in Africa might consider nutritious food a luxury. Besides, the rich owe you nothing. Even if they give up all their wealth, they can fund a town max 1 week after which they'll need more resources (same logic as you used) so they need not fund. You'll have the moral ground to ask other people to donate when you do.
