How to use a Drone for a Gender Reveal!

  • This is a tutorial of how I made a device that can remotely drop colored powder from a phantom series drone to use for a gender reveal. Hopefully I explain it well enough so that you could build your own, but feel free to ask me any questions in the comments below.
Warning! Do not attempt this if you see any cracks in the frame on the ends of the arms near the motor mount screws. Could cause the arm to flex enough to cause the propeller to hit the body of the drone and lose control.

Great video, does it need all that extra space below the drone (2-3 feet)? we have a smaller drone so I'm trying to match for that size.

Thank you! Are u referring to the length of the string that holds the bag? You could make that shorter if you wanted. What drone are u using? Just be careful not to overload the drone :)
Let me know if u have more questions or need any help! Good luck

How do you keep the main line from getting tangled with the secondary line? Things get pretty crazy pretty fast even they start to tangle. Great video by the way, thanks so much!

@@DanielGonzalez-mj3he I did mine today. My bag is way too long and I plan to cut it in half (too heavy). However, I was able to get it airborne flying into the wind. Effective Translational Lift (ETL) was at play big time as it was too heavy for a max performance, vertical takeoff. It would just sit there with the bag bouncing along the ground giving me the warning that the motors had reached their maximum power output. As soon as I pointed the nose into the wind and basically did a running takeoff into the wind, we were able to get it airborne and as long as I kept flying forward, the lines did not tangle. If I hovered, lines would start to spin and get tangled pretty quick. I would highly recommend keeping it in GPS mode. Putting it in ATTI Mode proved quite difficult and we nearly lost it. On our test flight, we used 10 of the small 75 gram bags of chalk and ended up having to dump about half of it out as it was just too heavy. The second flight we had 6 of the 75 gram bags and it was still a bit too heavy but we were able to get it airborne as stated above (again I attribute the excess weight to the bag being too long/big). 6 bags was more than enough and it really was pretty spectacular seeing it work. Lastly, it was fairly breezy and the bag acted like a big windsock/parachute at one point. I knew this before attempting to fly today- that it would be difficult and possibly beyond the limitations of the drone, however I kept it very low to the ground and did not have a problem recovering the drone. We waited for the winds to die down before attempting again. All and all, very happy and very grateful to this channel/author for putting this out there- thank you!

Thank you! I used a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced. You could pretty much use any of the DJI Phantom series drones.

I would love to upgrade my Mavic pro to the Mavic 2! Not sure I would want to try and lift anything with it though lol. I still have my phantom 3 advanced as a back up drone.
