I'm an American who has lived in China for the last 8 years. It's quite nice to see your fresh perspective. I'm not really a fan of Beijing... There are much better cities to visit in China.
Edit: 北京人,别伤心。 这只是我个人的看法。 你们的城市是中国的首都。 很厉害。
yes, normally, people like Shanghai
@@mangcike yeah, Shanghai is a better version of new York.. Beijing has a lot more culture than Shanghai. For foreigners that is not into culture.. Shanghai is a better fit.
Totally agree. Looks like someone is an expert in China here😆
I agree with you as chinese
Because Beijing doesn’t have much western influence, Shanghai was occupied by the west before. It’s like white people going to Bali and said they love it, deep down it’s because it’s more westernized to fit their taste, not because they love Indonesian culture
You’ve had some very authentic Beijing people’s foods this evening, Sly. I’m so envious!
I saw somewhere that mentioned “door nail dumpling” is a delicacy of Beijing. Its name derived from the the ancient emperor’s door that has those bronze studs on their main door as a symbol of status and power. The shape of the dumpling looks like those door studs/nail
I bet most foreigners have no idea what "doornail" looks like
“门钉肉饼”。
i think hes saying doorknob
Omg the doornail meatpie is on one of my wishlist after amy blondie vlogger posted it! Those meat juice made me salivate!
Hi Sly, second day watching your video. you are specialist in recording streets life in China. one advice, normally we Chinese mixed the spice with vinegar, and then dip the dumplings into it rather than directly paste the spice on dumplings. hope you enjoy the life in my hometown.
I think it’s good both ways. Sometimes I want just the spice haha
You're a huge inspiration for me as another brother from 🇺🇸 to travel to China. Ive seriously been wanting to come more because of you. Ive told my best friend about your videos
You should visit China soon before all the new infrastructure becomes old infrastructure 😂
Surprised me you went to the core historical area with lots of Hutongs, those old Hutongs are protected by the local laws. Beijing also has some great museums if you're interested.
你这名字取的…😅
You're the only foreigner loving chilli oil so much I've seen 😅 if you like spicy food, don't miss the REAL Sichuan dishes in China, especially HUO GUO(Sichuan Hotpot), you may fall in love with it.
you should collab with Blondie in China!
Wrong , real spicy in hunan , hubei province, even yunnan province, Sichuan or Chongqing are MA

Is this guy your friend? He knows how to eat very well. All the food you have eaten is the most historical and popular in Beijing, and those restaurants are the most popular. 😆
Just find the overweight guy 😂
I've had Peking duck in other countries, but the Beijing original is definitely the best
只有在北京才能吃到正宗的北京烤鸭,鸭子的品种,饲养方法和烤制方法是北京特有的。
Nice to see you have a guide an who can make checking things out more interesting. More helpful and provide more knowledge and cultural awareness than just aimless wandering. Looking great.
I love your travel series! One of my favorite street foods in Beijing, besides the ubiquitous chuar 串 (grilled food on sticks) is shouzhuabing 手抓饼 a wonderful crispy pancake that often serves as a wrap for all kinds of fillings. On Beijing Language & Culture University campus there was one that had duck meat and veggies. I had some in Shanghai that had bacon and hoisin sauce. There was one not far from Donghua University that serves shouzhuabing with fried chicken and hot sauce. Holy cow of all the amazing food I ate when I was in China for a year, I miss shouzhuabing like crazy. There's also a tremendous restaurant in Beijing that we would go to once a month that served dongbei (northeastern) cuisine while doing floor shows as entertainment for the guests. It was fantastic.
A couple blocks from here is where I went to high school seven years ago... Seeing these does bring back a lot of memories for sure.
Thnx good video
the locals know it! you would never find these good places on a travel guide.
Appreciate you sharing your experience, this was great, loving the adventure.
The dumpling restraunt looks quite nice . Quite local style.
This is how you it. I like your unbiased way of getting to know a place, unlike the usual Western “ high horse” view point that permeates the media. How do you get the guide? Let him introduce you to the locals and you will know more of this place.
I like hearing people say this place is a dirty sh!th0le
I am glad that you have a local guide who speaks some English. It is so much better to have someone who knows exactly where to go for food and other sightseeing, especially for a newcomer like you. Are you in Beijing for pleasure or work?
China sweet standerd is far from US, In China super sweet is normal sweet in US
Nice vlog shouout good food tour❤
I want to move to China these videos are awesome, safe travels
Beijing is a very historic city which is full with chinese culture .It is a bit difficult for a fresh foreigner in it quickly. You are in the "hutong" area , it is quite challenge. Perhaps go to visit forbidden city ,get some idea of it 😀
Enjoyed video, thank you!
Great job, Sly. Safe travels.
Have you tried Beijing Hot Pot yet? You hit some great places. The Hutong area and Summer Palace are really fun. If you can see the ruins of the old Summer Palace. It is historically important to the Chinese. Enjoying your videos.
I like that your guide took you to the smaller, more hidden, places...they don't usually last too long, so you need someone really local to keep track of which ones are good....imo.
Nice one
Sly, I LOVE these eating videos! Thank You!
great video
First and foremost, I want to thank the guide for showing you around and giving you the best of traditional Chinese cuisines while I am made to watch and salivate.
Secondly, Chinese noodles seem a bit bigger than then Indonesian ones from the look of things. The noodles we have in my country are originally of Indonesian.
Thirdly, I like the way people gather and enjoy night walk on the streets of Beijing .
On the final note, I know there is lot to China than meet the eyes.
Please, keep the video coming.
Thank you very much, sir.
the places the guide took him is traaaash bro, no body goes there frfr, talking from a beijinger who grow up there and lived there for more than 20 years
@@nataliebond8486 It is traditionally okay to me. I know that is not the modern section of the city but that area has something to offer that I admire.
@@youme1414 I grow up in Beijing, and the inner city. Especially areas around nanluo, where my schools are. It’s definitely not traditional where there’s banana and chocolate in dumplings.
@@nataliebond8486 Okay. Which area of the city can one get authentic traditional Chinese cuisines?
Thank you, sir.
@@youme1414 it’s not about area, it’s about which restaurant. 我爷爷小时候就总去东四胡同附近吃炸灌肠,具体的店名记不住了,but in Beijing I can say for sure that there’s no such thing as fried choco banana dumplings.
Awesome thanks for sharing 👍👍
You can find it in Flushing, NY, or Monterey Park, CA (some food)
Another amazing vid!
That's a very good tour, good and authentic food.
Those meat pies look yum! Happy that you are viewing with an open mind! I hope you enjoy your time in the places you visit!
Good job of going native & exploring ordinary hotels & local restaurants, keep up the great works
Thank you 😊😊😊😊
the thin pancakes you ate with the duck meat is called "chun bing" its thinner than tortillas and is made with wheat and usually steamed.
Thank you for sharing. I'm glad to see you gradually integrating into local life. It is well known that Beijing is a food desert!😝Please promise me that you will experience life in other cities.
然而并不是,所谓的美食沙漠是指北京本地美食少,然而北京拥有最多的各地美食,像是川菜鲁菜豫菜宫廷菜粤菜等,而且都非常的地道,因为这是首都。

Hey slys life, great video.
Oh man, u made me hungry. 🤣🤣
Looks yummy. My god, i want some. 🤣🤣

Good video sir.
The bing looks really good.
Never heard of 'door nail meat pie' before...looks like a beef bing to me. Don't let those juices drip away...that's the best bit!
Hi Sly, @5:30, I think he said “door knob”, as in the shape of the meat pie.
No, it's doornail, like this gilden round nails on the palace doors: www.google.com.hk/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fk.sinaimg.cn%2Fn%2Fsinacn16%2F222%2Fw640h382%2F20180809%2Fd56b-hhnunsq1267856.jpg%2Fw700d1q75cms.jpg%3Fby%3Dcms_fixed_width&tbnid=dOB8Gc5tBQvCnM&vet=1&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fk.sina.com.cn%2Farticle_6433514478_17f77a3ee001009kz5.html&docid=f9xOGt2g7AgBbM&w=640&h=382&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim
That's soooo amazing! The tortilla -like sides! Makes me happy to see something kinda reminiscent to my culture. I really wish I could go to China.
Great
Looking forward to your Saturday night party video 🎉
Thank you for your video men 😁👍🏽
great video again boss. 😃
Wrapped utensils are from outside washing company not washed inside restaurant
These are the real life of normal local Beijing people. Thanks for sharing! Talk with more young people and you can get more suggestions about where to visit and where to eat the best cheap and tasteful local food of Beijing. More young people can communicate with you in English.
5:56 LOL he was saying "doorknob" LMAO. Door nail LOL.
That noodle is call Black Bean Paste Noodle I think that is the one Marco Polo like and how Pasta was born.
You never seen the Disney movie Mulan? She had the cricket pet for good luck and it was given to her by her grandmother.
Great channel! Watched our last couple of videos and I am now a subscriber. You find out the name of that translation app yet?
These food look very good, I really hope to visit Beijing, China someday.
Haha fun to see this newcomer videos. I live in Shanghai since 2014 and loving it. The duck with wrap in the end is great. Try Yunnan and Hunan food. They say its expats favourites food.
Every house in the HuDong worth $4 millions at least.
A neighbour sold one of her houses in Beijing, bought a house with ocean view in Sydney, cash.
The price of a siheyuan varies from $5 million to $100 million
4:00 Meng Ding Rou Bing (Door Nail Meat Pie) because it shapes like the golden color door nails on the gate of the Forbidden City.
Can you put your tour guides information in the link. Some of us plan to visit China one day and i would pay him for the same tour
The red beans are adzuki beans. Thanks for the video.
Hey Sly, my travel agent in Beijing can show you an authentic Beijing tour...a lot of fan, more interesting and doesn't cost much..
The grasshopper crickets the sounds of nature in your urban home. I think it's also Goodluck.
China is on my list to visit. Your videos are very helpful. Thanks bro
I remember when I first landed in Beijing by myself. I got off the plane and looked for a restaurant first thing because I was hungry. I had hotpot for the first time. I didn't know what it was and that it was Beijing hotpot. It was an adventure.
Food isn’t more spicy in the south but in the west part of China like Sichuan and Guizhou province where the climate is more moist. Southern part of China like Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong we don’t really eat spicy food very much. 😅
Guangzhou food is the best, esp the breakfast tea.
Beijing looks cool... looks like they've dealt with the old pollution problem 👍👍
How nice for this local to show you around 👏 😀
They haven't dealt with it they get air pollution alerts regularly. It's possible they've slowed down since global trade has slowed down hence less activity in their factories.
Food in China isn't just one thing. Saying something is Chinese food is like saying something is European food. It's such a huge country with diverse food cultures that you'll have totally different experiences depending on where you go. Of course in this day and age, you can sample cuisine from different areas of China in a city as large as Beijing, but the food culture is really quite different.
There’s a lot more different food in China than europe to be honest
@@micholitzia5726 yeah I agree
Did you have any crayfish? You mentioned it, but I didn't see any...that can be really quite spicy, and a challenge for many.
maybe you need a better guide/translator🤣, good video! my mouth is watering.
Recently, ZiBo BbQ is very popular and the price is very nice.
Glad to see someone on a tour that isnt shilling or hating. Im sure rural and city areas are vastly different. What i find weird is, what in the world do people do for work in such populated cities? It doesnt seem like wages are very high in Beijing either for most people so its a curious thing how expensive properties are. I understand there is no property tax, which is definitely not a good idea because property prices endlessly rise
One of the best features of Chinese food is that there is no concept of Chinese food.
Some would like schezcheuan food, some like Cantonese. But nobody would say they like Chinese food cuz they are all so diversified and so different.
Strongly recommend you watch the masterpiece movie the Last Emperor (won 9 Oscars) while you’re in Beijing, and you’ll start to appreciate the city more. There is an anecdote of a cricket in it - just watch the ending.
Every time I visit a country.. I will always try its street food..they're the best!!!
nice
I think you like spicy food. You should visit Chengdu.
Chocolate and banana filling…that’s original😊. Personally I like to dip my dumplings in diluted vinegar spiced with hot sauce
it's called:甜面酱
Hi Sly .. did you manage to download the payment apps ? If yes, did they work ?
hello. may i know where you stayed. and did you booked this food tour in klook?
If you come to Shenzhen,I can show you around the city.
Are you a native to china?
Be sure to try Beijing Duck. Very delicious!
This is good content. How much did you pay to hire the tour guide?
Yea Peking ducks is acuisine foreigners gotta taste when pay visit to beijing. Your guidance does look like a gourmet or 'insider' of beijing delicacies lol
Good luck finding any 'western Chinese' food in Beijing.
The Gong Bao Ji Ding is pretty good in some places...even though it's from Chungdu - 'Huatian Emei Restaurant' in Western Beijing is my 'go to' for that.
Chengdu, pls.😮💨
If you want an authentic Beijing breakfast go around ask people where you can get Fermented Soya-bean soup or 豆汁 in Chinese be warned it is not for the weak stomach. Also there's Pork stew with flatbread aka 卤煮火烧 and Stewed Liver/炒肝. If you are feeling adventurous you can try them out.

Ohhh I miss China and the food!!
Delicious food😍
I have traveled all over China, lived there for 2 years to be the best is Shandong Cuisine. Shandong the first place in China I found a lot of Chinese that didn't like or eat rice. Love Shandong Style Doushabao (Steamed Wheat Buns Filled with Sweet Bean Paste). Where ever you go in China get what the locals are know for. Like you are doing and you have the best Chinese food you ever had.
Naahh, we Cantonese have the best Chinese cuisine. 😂 unbeatable.
@@Zergcerebrates I lived in Zhongshan in Guangdong know all about Cantonese cuisine and yes it good. Being American from the Texas, Shandong to me felt more like home with Beef and wheat. Maybe that why I like Shandong the best. South China when you got beef most of the time it was water buffalo. I like going to Macau to get what they call the Fusion cuisine a blend of Portuguese and Cantonese. Love the food in Qingyuan the Qingyuan pork I felt I was home in the US. Cantonese cuisine is known to cook anything that moves, did love the Cantonese Pigeon and sticky rice. Everything I had in China was good except the sea cucumber could not stand them.
@@jtr789310 lol whuuuut, sea cucumbers are yummy. I like the softness and the gelatinous of it. I need to try Shandong food I'm sure there's one in Southern California. I might have eaten some dishes from there but probably wasn't aware it's Shandong.
