Here’s the thing, Moscow was the capitol of the Soviet Union, if Moscow fell, there was a real chance that they would never be able to recover and would lose. This is a serious problem, as Hitler had made his intentions known of what he does to communists, exterminate them. At this point then, it could be said that the Soviets were facing the possibility of genocide, if Moscow fell. Surrender then, was not an option. Retreat, was not an option. This was it, the battle for the very existence of their people.
Glad to hear somebody understand position of the Soviet people in the WW2. It was fight for survival for us not "just another war". Every family in Russia has at least one relative lost on that war.

I'm from Germany and both my great grandfathers fought on the eastern front. I'm obviously not very proud of that, but in their defence.. they had a job to do, so they did what they had to do. This is why I love Sabaton. Back then we would've been enemies and couldn't have been further apart. But now, 80 years later we sit here, listening and enjoying the same music.

USSR and USA fought together in that battle. USA helped us not only on the battlefield in Normandy in 1944, but with supplies and machines till 1941. And we never forget it. As Stalin said in 1943: "The most important things in this war are the machines.... The United States is a country of machines. Without the machines we received through Lend-Lease, we would have lost the war."
Yes! I know that my closest city, Portland, ME, is a sister city to Arkhangelsk. We have a history of sending ships with supplies over the North Atlantic and Arctic to them during WW2. It went to a good place! Also, happy V-E Day and Victory Day to all of us!

There was a military parade held on the Red Square these times, but unlike the modern parades, the troops wore not the decorative uniforms, and held loaded rifles, They marched down the square directly to be transported to the frontline. Many of that parade members left in snowy fields of Moscow region soon after...

"From Kazachstan to Magadan" is a russian saying for Stalins recrute of dissidents and criminals from whole of the Sovjetunion to take part in the defence of Moscow. Especially in Magadan, in Sibiria, there was a prison where for example Zhukov was taken and held, because of Stalins fear to not beeing able to hold the power for himself. When the Germans was so near they were a real treath to Moscow Stalin let Zhukov free and recruted him to the defence of Moscow. Zhukov was one of the brightest strategian in Russia and Stalin knew it. After the war he was declared war hero. "From Kazachstan to Magadan" means Stalin was trolling the whole Sovjetunion from Kazackstan to the east, Magadan, for people that could defence Moscow, that must resist and prevail.
