black beauty long handle, my fav razor . i know the history of mine cos i have had it from new in the 70's, i like mine on 8 first pass then down to 6 there after. so think i will follow you and use mine today.

Flawless shave as always mate!
Have you heard or come across Castle Forbes products? I smelt one of their luxury shaving creams (Lavender) whilst I was at Fortnam & Mason in London's Jermyn Street. It was sensational, it was like grabbing a bunch of lavender buds and squeezing out the oils instantly.
The burst of scents waffles the air instantly.
Only draw back is the price though £25 for a 200ml tub but I may to treat thee come Xmas. If you're back to London this year or next year give a me shout mate!

I got some of L'Occitane's Men's shower gel a week ago. Not cheap at £14 a bottle, but the stuff is fantastic, scent wise, and seems to be lasting a long time, as you need so little. Thoroughly recommended :-) I'm definitely going to try the Cade :-)

Hi paul. which is a better razor. gillette black beauty or slim adjustable according to you specially in terms of shave. Not build quality. Which is your favorite among the two.

Nice one Paul, L'Occitane make world-class products, I bought the Cade soap and it's incredible although sadly it has a far weaker scent than the cream.

The black beauty was produced from 69-86 I believe. What is the date code stamped on the bottom? I have a P-3 which is 1970.

+Dan Lutter I didn't realize Gillette was still producing DE razors into the eighties. If only I bought a few instead of buy those Atra's and Sensor's! I still have my Atra silver metal razor which is the best for shaving the shoulders and back with a trusty can of Barbasol.

Great Video. Just one thing tho. That razor has a date code of W3, which is from 3rd quarter 1976. Sorry mate, but it's not from 1951. I also have the same razor but from 1969. It's a great performer.

Was the Gillette Black Beauty a family heirloom? It looks like it's in mint condition. How would you like to own the razors used by the four young English gentlemen in this photo (circa 1964)? In regard to the Red Personna's, the Crystals are said to be the same blade as they're made in the same factory in Israel. Many queston whether they're the same, as the Red Personna's seem smoother. I personally find the Crystals too sharp, but while I had a few nicks on my first two shaves with a Crystal blade, the 3rd and 4th have been very close with no cuts. It's either that some blades get better with each successive shave or some blades have a learning curve. For a Crystal, this means short strokes in the sensitive areas.
The Gillette Silver Blue is my favorite! I always get smooth and close shaves with a GSB and that may be why it's one of the more expensive blades, even when bought in quantity.
Now for Clubman Special Reserve. Many on the forums (mostly the younger members) feel it's an acquired taste - and since I'm not young anymore, I've definitely acquired the taste for it! You can't find it in the stores here. Only the barber supply sites and drugstore chain sites like Walgreens.com seem to carry it. I bought a few bottles online from Walgreens on sale for $4.40 (£2.90). It's Clubman's longest lasting scent (more than a few hours) and that's why they refer to it as an "aftershave cologne". I even rub some on my hairy arms so I can take a whiff every hour or so. Sometimes I even splash a few drops on after a shower. I don't understand why it's so expensive in the UK. Even though it's made in the USA, the back of the bottle has a UK address for the manufacturer, American International Industries (AII). Take a look at this: www.companiesintheuk.co.uk/ltd/aii-(uk). That could just be a PO Box address for Clubman in the UK,. or a UK distributor you might be able to purchase from.
