I started to read this book last week.....and I'm a 17 year old kid that hates reading....and I've never been so attracted to a story before in my life...it's an amazing book!
Anyone who is making off comments about sean is clearly insecure and jealous becuase there little egos at stake. He is a very telented man and a human beiing who makes mistakes like everyone else including you.
The first question was, how did you discover this movie; and he responded, i did so by seeing a book in a store, then by meeting the family over several meetings which ended up turning into ten years of nothing, then I was able to make the movie. The second question was, how surprised were you when you found out that it was going to work out, and what did they say to you?
Sean Penn is one of the few people who would take the time and the professialism to make the world now about that great person was Chris Mccandless, just last himself...a great man... saludos.. gnobile
2. Answer: well, i got a call, i verfied, it was real, then I jumped around the room a bit, then we set up a meeting--they wanted to see where I was. More than surprise, I just put it all on paper. Next question, how did you find the main actor? Answer; I saw the character and just felt he was it. (then he elaborates on the requirements necessary for this character and says that the actor was perfect in those ways).
Lots of young people run and hide from their dysfunctional families. Many have use drugs and alcohol as an escape / adventure, sometimes with deadly consequences. This guy used cross country travel and societal abandonment as his drug. He basically overdosed on some delusional notion that he could live a poetic solitary life in the wild unprepared. Sad but true.
I happen to know for a fact that at least one point during filming cases of vodka(among other things) were flown in by helicopter for Sean Penn and few members of the cast to PARTY.
3. Regarding your criticism on his "drawn-out", "grammatically disfunctional" sentences: U were wrong. He merely incorporated a few words between the lines. Though, if u had paid attention, u would have seen that this meant his wanting to include more abstract ideas, which make concision that much harder. Using unidentified clauses in one's explanations doesnt make u a bad speaker. And, it isnt always easy, and takes practice. So, what?--he was imperfect as a speaker? Welcome to life!
The distress note below was purposely not part of the movie. Attention possible visitors. "S.O.S. I need your help. I am injured, near death, and too weak too hike out of here. I am all alone, this is no joke. In the name of God, please remain to save me. I am out collecting berries close by and shall return this evening. Thank you, Chris McCandless. August ?" He screwed up and in the end no longer though of himself as the free-spirit Alex Supertramp. Movie romantic, reality not.
Wow...you people are incredible...yes, he was great in "Sam" but what an awful movie, no he is not on coke in this interview, he is completely lucid and sober...finally, "Into the Wild" was a great artistic achievement and one of the most amazing films made in the last decade...enough said.
Hassan Abdulahi this was the only book I read in high school (aside from “Night” by Weisal) that I actually had to read it all the first day I got it. Beautiful and sad story, that has so much humanity attached to it
Excellent movie I recently wrote I disliked his movies and loved his political view's but this movie was bad ass and I have been helicoptered into the middle gods country many times for work and have lived alone in a tent Prospecting for gold and I tell you this something happens out there and it gets very spirtual and you find (god) Mother Earth. The closest I could put it to would be the pagan religen before the Christian demonized it's ideals
He really face a wonderful face...but knows how to disguise himself by hiding that hair...and shaving. He can really disappear. I'm sorry he isn't going tom play larry of the Stooges...I think he would have been brilliant..plus he's got a healthy snozz to match larry's. Brilliant guy...all real.
If you want to talk about an actor with something to say, an actor with incredible courage, an actor so brave he uses his celebrity to raise awareness about a disease that he can personally relate to, then that would have to be Michael J. Fox. He has, through his public persona as an actor and his strength of character as a man done more for informing the public about the disease which is Parkinsons than Sean Penn could ever hope to do about anything. Sean Penn is not cool, M.J.FOX is!
how much do you americans spend in military.... 2 billion and counting now... for the irak war... don give that bs... Chavez is going to be throughout history one of the best men that ever exited
I don't care for any project Sean Penn is associated with, Like Tom Cruise, his beliefs and views have overshadowed whatever talent he brings to the table. And please Sean... smile a little. Stop having so much hate in your life.
He did an amazing job on that film. and he seems to be very well spoken
thank you sean penn for bringing this beautiful story onto film x
You and the movie are absolutely......there isn't even a word to describe it....WOW
Say what you want about the man but you have to admit that Into the Wild was amazingly directed.
Sean Penn is a very perceptive and intelligent artist/thinker. Saludos for being able to think for yourself Mr. Penn.

I wish he'd direct more. He has an amazing vision.
Right, I totally agree! Seems like he is in constant pain. Maybe one of the reasons why he is such a great actor....?

Can't wait to see it
Eye To Eye with Katie Couric...with Harry Smith.

Sean Penn is a good man.
No matter what side you are on, very few people think for themselves an longer.
sean looks like my uncle
I happen to know for a fact that at least one point during filming cases of vodka(among other things) were flown in by helicopter for Sean Penn and few members of the cast to PARTY.
Why does it always seem he is always coked out his mind??
you were going into the wild and, if you had listened, that is exactly what he spoke about. He did not mention any political subject whatsoever.
Yeah I probably should...

Maybe the comment used language fit for a dumpster.

If you think socialism is so great, go move to Europe . . . and if you think Communism is so great, move to Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea or China.

Some Russian trollbot took a big shit in these comments. The more people spew pettiness and hatred the more I like and respect him.
what's wrong with sociaism? I don't understand the fear for it.... socialism s not comunism... and even, what have you read about comunism??
