- This is Overlanding On A Budget. I upgraded my trailblazer and I only spent about $400. I used blocks to life the trailblazer and spacers to make new wheels fit. Then I leveled out the sleep system so I could sit up in the vehicle.
Here are a few of the items used in this video:
Parts For Trailblazer:
MotoFab Lifts Trail-3F-2R 3" Front 2" Rear Leveling lift kit for Chevy Trailblazer GMC Envoy

Briliant idea . The wooden plate you added is simple ergunomic craft. You can add hinge to open it up as a store
Nice overhaul, the platform looks great, especially with the storage underneath. New tires and rims look good too! Good work
Thank you!
looks good ,you are heading in the right direction , Hopefully CZcams together ,happy together
I hope so too
Great to see you're happy with the upgrades! Every bit helps!
It sure does! It is still a work in progress! Thanks Pamela!
Love the new platform, Hank did a great job. yes add some storage on the other side. hope to go camping with you soon
I cant wait to go camping with you too Kori! Cave Lake!
I build a food pantry in my back window area. Much need to do the other side too. Looking great Diane!
That's a great idea!
Nice to see your home away from home is getting to make your adventures more comfortable .You came up with a good idea on the lift and tires may your drive be alot clearer on those back road adventures .cjd wash state 👍🌌
I cant wait to get out into the boonies!
Looks so good 🙌🏼
Thanks Gina!
I never thought that you can use these for camping!
Interesting!
I knew you could adapt Chev truck wheels this a first time actually seeing it.
One caution -
If you install differently branded and especially different sized tires or wheels on sny 4WD, never actually engage the 4WD option -- it dsmages the transfer case.
Those Atlas 4.2 litre engines were almost bulletproof.
Next add a Transmission Cooler as the little transmission in those is working it's little heart out just moving those beasts around empty (they get boiling hot inside which shortens the lifespan)
Hopefully you have it years they're built well.
I used to work alongside some of the former employees from the factory that built the frame in your little truck.
Budd Automotive Ontario Canada.
That was one of the heaviest frames they made for GM ttucks.
Very nice. I just bought an Envoy and I'm trying to get some ideas. I have a kid the rear seat is a must lol. Loving what you did though.
Awesome build!! I love it!
Thanks Robert! It's actually being worked on right now and it's almost done. I'll have an update video soon
@@OutandAboutWithDiane very cool, those 1st gen trailblazers are super tough and reliable.
Awesome build beautiful lady🙌🙌
You could put a roof rack storage on it, but it's good keeping it inside so it doesn't get nicked.
Yeah I do want a roof rack for sure!
And btw truck looks great
Them stock Silverado rims blacked out on a mid tire make the TB look pretty dope I can't even like 🤟🏾💪🏾✊🏾
Thank you! I actually bought them thinking that they would fit naturally but they were a hair off. I had to buy spacers to put them on but it all worked out. My roomate also left a spare tire here for a silverado so I was able to get a free rim for a spare too.
Absolutely love watching you and your build I have the same vehicle,if you ever do a big offroad trip or any overlanding let me know I'll join
Awesome thanks for watching! I have a full tour of my setup coming out on October 4th
Awesome can't wait 😁
Nice shop. Being able to sit somewhere is huge. "living room" not just a bedroom
So true!
I love my trailblazer, but that’s the one I dislike a lot about them is the lug pattern. I got new anthem wheels on mine but I had a hard time finding ones for the trailblazer wheel pattern. But they are mounted now with new mastercraft tires.
Yeah it is a weird vehicle. Its also a straight 6 engine which is also weird
@@OutandAboutWithDiane The problem is it's built on a sort-of minivan chassis (S-10 origin): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMT360 I love your ideas, though! I wouldn't mind doing the same to mine, although I'm more of a traveller, not a camper. Nice work!
@@MrJoelCollins thank you!
I'd like a copy of the specs on that frame Hank made for your platform! I'm gonna take my back seats out also & lay down a thick polyurethane black mat down. That frame he made is awesome 💯👍
i was already liking the idea and video but you won me over with danzig in the background
😍
Great upgrades to your adventure rig! Major props to Hank and his brother! 👍 I was wondering with the lug nut pattern difference... How did you deal with the spare tire situation?
I actually got lucky with the spare. I had a roomate who moved out and left the spare to a Silverado in the backyard! Its good enough to get me home lol. Eh, the trailblazer has become the song by Johnny Cash, One Piece At A Time! haha!
@@OutandAboutWithDiane Karma. Good things come to good people. I’m not surprised things are working out for you. It has a lot to do with all your hard work and dedication too. 👍 (and Johnny Cash rocks! 🤘)
Awesome set up very inspiring. When you put on the Silverado wheels did you HAVE to lift it to clear the 31’s ?
Hi whatcha up to hope all is well hugs prayers 4 u also the front bumper and rear of tires on the front and fenders may need to be trimmed bk a little bit so the tires don't rub while turning to the right and left make u use lil paint on the mantel part of the fenders cool cool build u did good ohhhh yeahhhhh and bless great healthy peaceful safe journeys travels and happy camping
🚐⛺🌌🌄🏞💪🙂👍👍
thank you
Exact same road I went down. Lost my pull out kitchen and some storage but at least I can sit up. When are you going to get a 12v fridge? Have you thought of a solar shower, it's more like 6 gallons of more fresh water storage lol. I'm thinking of the on demand propane hot water heater for an upgrade? Headed to Colorado now after leaving Pishgah NF in NC. Hope to run into you in the desert!
have fun on your adventure!
In looking at your build, I got an 05 needs some TLC, it cuts out and lights flicker, I gotta figure it out, also needs, shocks, brake pads rotors, and probably ball joints and bearings checked, the normal wear and tear, I put new plugs air filter and changed to oil, I'd like to upgrade wheels and tires as well, I can prolly find a take off set used, 500 bucks.
That is the best way to go. I bought the wheels for $60 but the spacers were about 160 because they are hard to find for trailblazers
@@OutandAboutWithDiane yeah I go to the same spots, used tire place, and I speak ok Spanish, I could get cheaper wheels and tires, I gotta go see what he's got, I left out CV axle an alignment, old vehicles need alot of tinkering.
🤙
So just curious as to how tall you are? I'm looking at a V8 Trailblazer that I found but it's not the Ext model. I'm 6'3" and I'm not sure if there is enough room for me to sleep in the back. And I don't like sleeping on the ground and definitely won't waste money on a roof tent.
Well, I am 5'6 so definitley not as tall as you. This is the LS so its not the EXT either. You could always take your passenger seat out, move it up or sleep diagonal (not sure if there is more room.) I hear you on the RTT they are still too pricey for me. I like my set up
Can Hank make another support frame for sale?
Like, O.M.G a Mexican tire shop.
Hit those head lights with some chrome polish.
How does your truck do on gas mileage? Hiw much do you feel up weekly
I get about 15 miles to a gallon. Fill ups depend on what I'm doing. It varys
How’s the lift so far I heard that 3 inch Moto fab does damage to your cv axles are yours ok
I've actually replaced the front passenger and i need to do the driver but the vehicle does have 240k miles on it with a lot of that being off road.
You could use your hitch to attach a box for extra storage if not planning pulling anything with your truck. In getting ready to lift mine just like this. I have a 07 trailblazer. It's been 10 months since this video posted. Are you still happy with the lift?
I actually have a tow hitch rack that I scored from the Leduc off road swap meet for $10! I have used it. I used it tk store a box but I couldn't open the hatch so I used it as a table to cook on. Not sure if I'll continue to use it though.
I've made a lot of adjustments and j have an update video coming soon!
You will love the lift! I did the standard 3 inch life and shaped my wheels for Silverado wheels. I put K02 31s on it. The clearance is perfect
Right on.. im ordering parts today
@@billbong156 I think I order parts every day lately lol
@@OutandAboutWithDiane sounds like you have lots of fun lol
Heavier tires and increased drag from lifting the truck and to top it off it's a truck good luck with gas mileage lol nevertheless great job on the truck it looks good
I get 15 miles to the gallon so it's not too bad. Only 2 miles less a gallon than before!
How did you make truck wheels fit on it ?
Spacers
Do you know by chance the dimensions for bed platform?
I don't! BUT I will try and get it for you.
@@OutandAboutWithDiane Praise! Thank you!
Who removed your back seats? My carpet is so nasty. Ive been cleaning it. I have a 05 trail blazer.
I removed them
What size tires are those
31s
I don’t really count this as $300-$500 build bc you re-used a lot and also gifted the wheel spacers an stuff lol but good video just misleading to someone who doesn’t know much trying to get into an overland build
And what’s everything you did to it?
I put new tires, wheels, shocks and a lift on it. I also changed my bed set up.
What rims are those?
They are Silverado wheels
What size tire are those ?
31s
Nice so 265/70??
The ext model would have been better in my opinion
Do you have the 4.2 or 5.3 ??
4.2
@@OutandAboutWithDiane I just bought one today 4.2 with 173k on it runs good gonna do an oil change an tune up. How many miles do you have on yours an how's it been holding up ??
@@TheWheelsOnTheRideGo I'm constantly doing preventative maintenance but I have 260k miles on mine. Make sure you are always checking that tranny fluid that's the major thing.
Hello pretty lady hey how about taking out your passenger seat it would give you more room for stuff , and maybe a place for your lil doggy to rest
I thought about it but I use the passenger seat pretty often so it would not be worth it.
@@OutandAboutWithDiane good morning, if you took your passenger seat out you can get a power inverter to put in a mini fridge in that empty spot ,I say try removing the seat and try it out if it doesn’t work for you then you can always put the seat back in , it’s something us truck drivers due in our rigs
ur so cute
a Mexican tire shop lol
