    Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunas released a video regarding some character letters they wrote in regards to Danny Masterson. Masterson is currently facing 30 years to life in prison for assaulting a number of women back in the prime of his acting career. This is my body language analysis of their video.

People refuse to acknowledge the abuser grooms EVERYONE around them differently, but makes them all believe part of the mask they are showing the world for future needs, never for real connection. They are a conductor with all involved as their personal orchestra. They play each of them to get desired result, nothing more. They act like helpful and caring friends or family or coworkers. They never actually do anything helpful on purpose and don't ever connect with anyone. They make you feel like they did and care at all. They are making others look worse in each others minds and also tearing each of them down in person after hooking them. Sometimes they cluster together and often in Hollyweird...

So, while we look at them and may feel anger and disgust they have a very different lived experience influencing them. In time they may come to experience the same emotions towards someone they placed trust in. They may even come to have those feelings towards themselves knowing their words hurt people who experienced the things Danny did to others. It takes time to process things in an honest way.

      @@joanneblack7697I watched Ashton testify at the trial of the man who killed Ashton's date and I never heard anything about him seeing the body and fleeing the scene but it may have happened, it's just news to me. It's not like I'd be surprised if it did happen. These two absolutely did not want to read this statement and were pissed off that they had to even make the video. They meant what they said in those letters and as far as I'm concerned, they just totally crapped on the victims by writing those letters.

    I think it’s pretty clear they can’t separate the person from the crime. I’m not surprised by this because Ashton just a few months back did the pr move when asked about it and said, I’m going to refrain from saying something because of Danny’s daughter
    But also a lot of this case has to do with Scientology and how the church harassed and silenced the victims. And it’s pretty clear that they didn’t know that side of Danny because as someone who consumes a lot of content about modern cults like Scientology, that the star power aspect gave him a license to do whatever he wanted.
    So, yeah he could be that great friend who told you not to get into drugs (Scientology is very anti drugs and alcohol otherwise you would have to do hours long auditing to essentially repent for that if you were caught) he could be a great dad who loves his daughter, but it doesn’t take away from the crimes which were all similar.

    The judge sentenced Danny Masterson to LIFE in prison. Both counts of - Forcible gRAPE - that he was found guilty of committing carry a 15 year mandatory minimum sentence. In Masterson's case the two 15 year mandatory minimum portions of his LIFE sentence will be served consecutively. Not concurrently. Which means that Danny Masterson will have to serve out at least 85% of a mandatory minimum of 30 years in prison before he is eligible to petition the penal system for a parole hearing. Mind you that this is the barest minimum sentence that he must serve (PROVIDING HE DOESN"T GET INTO ANY TROUBLE ALONG THE WAY) before he can sit for the first time in front of a parole board. If he survives that long (which is highly unlikely) it is just as unlikely that he will be released after his first parole hearing. Considering he is serving a life sentence and also considering the nature, and the brutality, of his crimes and the fact that he D_RUGGED his victims before he forcibly gRAPED them. (criminologist here) ughhh I know this is an unpopular take and I know I will get hate for saying it, but I do feel it’s important to understand that character statements are very standard in criminal proceedings and are not at all intended to detract from the crime or victims themselves. Character statements are intended to assist judges in forming a more nuanced understanding of the accused and their capacity for prosocial behaviour, so that they can decide a fair and appropriate sentence (e.g. by providing an additional form of evidence for the judge to consider when assessing the offender's prospect of rehabilitation vs reoffending). Providing a character statement does not equate to Ashton and Mila believing Danny is not guilty, it’s simply a testament to their experience of him over an extended period and in varying contexts.

    • @candynickel
      @candynickel Před 9 měsíci +10

      They are standard, of course. And they have choices to write them. Laura Prepon didn't write anything. Wilmer Valderrama didn't either. They didn't have to do this but they did. They have stated their opinions about Danny, and people have opinions about him, too.
      But what you have to admit it here is, the drug-free references had no bearing on anything. He was already convicted of using drugs on the women so saying he encouraged a drug-free lifestyle was meant to retroactively dismiss the claims against him. That is the problem. Everything else could be a statement of character. But Danny Masterson is a HEAVY alcoholic. They were lying and obfuscating about the drugs. The court already knew he's not drug-free. He had to go in to medical upon arrival at prison because he was in withdrawals. The judge would have already known he isn't "drug free", and then possibly took the rest of the character statements in their letters with a grain of salt. Sadly, they likely messed up their careers for the near future over this. Ashton already supported Joe Paterno after the Sandusky controversy. He has a penchant for this.

The person who assaulted me also had character witnesses and he got away with probation. People are so black and white on this issue as if it isn’t more nuanced. I also feel like Danny’s sentencing seems like quite a lot of time compared to people who have done worse and gotten away with less time. Not to say that he doesn’t deserve to pay that time, but it seems like there should be more of a standard. Idk. I think the whole situation is much more nuanced and people are allowing their emotions to drive when looking at a legal situation. A person can commit horrible acts but still have been a decent person to others. He also could have cleaned his act up or learned from his actions over the past 20 years. Either way, he’s going to pay his time in jail.
