- Crazy Judo Moments on the Tatami - Part 1: • Video
Judo is a beautiful sport in which respect for the opponent on the mat comes first. But, now we are going to see some moments when emotions run high. I also want to say from the start that, without making things heated, I have the same respect for all the athletes. I am sure that if you see them not in a good light today, it is only by chance or emotion. All athletes deserve respect and they are all great professionals. - Sport

What an absurd statement. She cheated and fought in a dirty manner in order to become the champion
exactly. Should have been disqualified. So much for honor in this sport!

I want the proves of that. The only video can be accepted. I mean those apologies.
It's unfortunate that many top judokas do that. They have sneaky illegal sleeve grips and whatnot. Some are blatant and noticeable like this one, but don't think the rest are clean because you didn't see it.
The tall blonde chick should have been disqualified, what kind of comment is 'after this episode ...apologised like a true champion for which she deserves respect'. A true champion doesn't do this and she deserves no respect. Neither does the ref.

If you watch closer the t German blonde was retaliating.

It's quite possible judo isn't the only martial art he's a black belt on. High level martial artists often learn more than one art.
@BigUriel he threw punches like a drunk guy, he didn't learn s**t but judo
Tbh if I was fighting a judoka that knows Im a judoka myself I would definitely go for punches. I'd assume he is used to any Judo tricks so it will be easier to surprise him
The mats are literally designed to make judo near harmless on them
The first punch always gives u the upper hand lol
Ok. About Daria...
She apolozige herself saying that was not her intention, when clearly was, and still got the title.
She was not acting with respect and i see no reason for respect her after her apologies...
He probably just said that because she represents Ukraine, and this is his absurd way to show support.
A discrace for the art and not the way martial artist do, respect for your opponent. Greetings from the Netherlands 🥋 OSU 🥋

2:24 the japanese put her hand in the face of the german first ! slow motion will show you...
No, Japanese is trying to grab the back of her neck by the collar, but the German just shakes her off. Japanese judoka would never do that. If they do something like that, she will be criticized by she's teacher and the entire country. You must not know Japan very well. They are taught manners before techniques. If you don't follow these rules, you won't be allowed to participate in the tournament even if you're strong.
You probably don't know judo. The Japanese is trying to grab the back of her neck by the collar. It's a venue in Japan and her parents are probably coming to see their daughter as well. Japanese audiences are also coming to see it. If you do something like that, you will be severely criticized by the entire country as a disgrace. If they do something embarrassing like that, they'll probably choose to lose. Unlike the Europe, Japan is a country with extremely few fouls even in the Olympics.

@@zamolxezamolxe8131 No, Judo isn't like basketball or football. It's a martial art and form of self-defense. @action_day is correct, it's an odd thing to do. You practice for a decade to become a black belt. Unless he was also a boxer or MAA or something (which he doesn't appear to be), it would be odd to use something clearly not as affective as something you already know and have done millions of times.
In all the years I had in Judo, it never occurred to me to throw a punch. It would be odd to do against another Judoka -- doubly so on the tatami with both us wearing gis. Like, even if I got a good hit in without breaking my hand... wouldn't he just grab me, throw me, and/or we'd end up on the ground? It's just odd.

Well this guess to prove that grappling alone is not the ultimate art for self defense.
More like they are already peak at Judo so it’s very difficult throw each other while the soft ground means they also don’t get to hurt each other much even with big throws.
So if they actually want to hurt each other suddenly they resort to punching which the opponent also won’t expect it.
With the ugliest punches I've ever seen
Wrong throws lead to fatal injuries why do you think techniques (esp leg grabbing) are getting banned in judo
This is sports JUDO not 柔道
This is judo that has been improved to make it a safer sport so that children can learn it safely. If dangerous rules were left as they were, judo would not have become this big. This was a necessary improvement in order to spread it around the world. Parents don't want their children to play dangerous sports
Missed an easy punchline.
Tournament in Russia ended in a mass brawl. That's really rare in Judo.

It is striking that many judokas react with blows at the moment of a real confrontation... and the reactions of those attacked who do not have time to apply what they have learned in judo...

I'm a brown belt judoka and got into a fight with a good boxer. This is exactly how it went:
1. I danced around light on my feet, doing whatever those useless autistic moves were supposed to be instead of feints
2. The guy stood in place, tight guard up
3. Moment we engaged, I threw a kick, he threw a right hand jab from orthodox and instead of following up with punches tried to do a fucking hip toss? to which I replied by getting a flashy ura nage that left both of us concussed
4. We both got back to our senses in an emergency room feeling like absolute morons

It's sad to see but yeah nothing illegal about it. You could say it's bad sportsmanship to not try to rotate your opponent further to make sure he lands on his back and not his head/neck but then in a real match you can't always do that even if you try.

I kneed my opponent in the balls once when i was a kid . I got away with it , too.

It is unrespectful not to fight after a hajime. There isn't honor in winning like that but it is legit
I disagree: Judo is a martial art, and that means that you must always be focused on what what's happening: after the hajime signal the fight is on, and if I see an opening because my adversary is thinking of something else I gladly take it.
As you say not fighting is unrespectful, so he is the one who is losing honour, not me.
Once I personally saw in a kendo match that ippon was appointed to one of the fighters, than he returned to his place in order to be appointed winner, but he did so by turning his back to his adversary; immediately the judge stop the action and reversed the ippon in favour of the other contestant, because you NEVER give your back to someone who has a sword (even if it is made of bamboo).
I'm mixed on this one.
I was in a fairly high level Judo competition and my opponent was distracted by another match taking place beside us. It was more of a safety issue and I certainly didn't jump him while he was clearly worried that the other Judoka might spill into our area.
In this case, IDK. Part of me would be p'off this guy was wasting my time by 'protesting' a judgement already made, stalling the match, recovering, etc. I'm not sure I'd approach him in the way the other person did (that was some pretty good acting), but I don't think I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt for wasting everyone's time -- certainly not if he had a black belt and it was a high level competition.
I'm very surprised to see so many bad moves from Judokas O_O
And also so many of them just going to their own business looking/going away from the fight, and getting caught off guard consequently!!
I remember a single boxing match like that, where one of the boxer started looking away from his opponent to discuss some fault, and his opponent KO him quickly.
But then, the KOed testified : "he may have made a fault before, but looking away from him during a fight is MY fault, and I'm the only responsible of my well earn defeat. NEVER lose sight of your opponent, in a fighting sport. Before, during, and after the fight."
I can't believe how cocky and unattentive some of those judokas were O_o
Verdade .
To be fair, every sport and martial arts will have bad actors and people who are disrespectful. This is just a portion of the many different Judoka who have competed where most are respectful and dignified.

@@WoodSageSeaSalt lol she's something else. Should just do MMA at this point tbh
Despite the shame of those behaviours, what surprise me is that judo it's a self defense martial arts but when the judokas were punched they didn't use judo's techniques, they simply run away or even worst they still remain there without understanding what to do for to stop their aggressor!
you realize its supposed to be a professional setting? there are rules in place against striking in the sport, its grappling, not striking so when they're in a fight to grapple, they shouldnt have to worry about being hit or hitting back since that's not the sport. is that hard to think for yourself?
It is because many if not most modern judo practitioners don't really see it as a martial art for fighting but more of a sport, because they train to defeat a competition rival instead of to incapacitate an angry attacker. Their instincts to use judo only kick in in the context of a judo bout, but an actual physical altercation out of anger feels like an unrelated scenario and they default to simple "fighting." Ironically it's similar with karate practitioners because you win a karate match by scoring points and aren't supposed to actually injure your opponent, so when they actually lose their temper and try to fight someone they seem to forget all their karate skills and throw punches like a brawler in a pub fight.
Boxing, kickboxing or MMA are different, though, because in those you are supposed to injure your opponent (to a point), so a real fight feels similar to a competitive match.
@alvin8264 you miss the point here. You can be attacked everywhere in every single moment of your life, this is the first thing to know about self defense. If you need to be warned this isn't self defense. But there's another point you've missed: just because they all are there to grapple so you grapple if your opponent hit you!
@@michele6744 thats not how it works. do you not understand the concept of rules? they are in place so things like that doesnt happen. if someone picked up a soccer ball and ran with it like a football, you're not gonna just run up and tackle them no? its not the sport, there are rules to regulate what you can and cant do. on top of that, these are adults that could get into serious legal trouble so whats the point of assaulting someone back? and you missed my point on where this is supposed to be a professional setting where grown adults are expected to not act out since they cant control their emotions in a sport
@alvin8264 man, if someone hit you and you defend yourself you're legally legitimated, and again, I had not say that you have to hit your opponent, you are a judo practitioner, so if someone hit you, doing what you're here to doing: grab him! You are here to grab, so just grab! If you try an hippon into the competition you still try to put him down with an hippon even if he doesn't respect the rules! You will have respect the rules of the competition and protected yourself too!
The German woman was struck to the temple by the Japanese woman first, the German woman simply returned the gesture, seemed fair to me, to me fighting fit grips of a waste of energy, and for self defense ads well as sport, as my judo master taught, “throw them with what they give you, don’t waste energy fighting for grip as there as do many ways to grip and throw”
Your judo master obviously isn't real then if he doesn't know how important grips and canceling your opponents grips so u don't get thrown or choked out...
The Japanese woman hitting her was an accident. She was going for the collar and the German woman accidentally deflected her hand into her own face. You can only "throw them with what they give you" if they actually give you anything and adjusting your grip to take away your opponent's options is a very useful tactic.
"there as do" ?
Maybe the Germans have very less knowledge about judo and they shouldn't be allowed to participate or practice judo
I missed that. You are correct.
I think the Judo orgs are strict about letting competitors compete outside of Judo comps.
they should let top level judokas try MMA while they are in their prime. They can let off a little steam! lol
and here I was thinking there was no bad sportsmanship in Judo.

Last one its legit, but not respectful
Seems to me lots of egos reinforcing stereotypes is the norm in modern judo these days, I can't help but wonder what Kano would think of what Judo has become in contrast to what he had intended it to be.
Change and improvement are not always the same thing...

1:49 Arf. Shows you how effective Judo is in a real life fighting situation, doesn't it?
Judo is super ineffective when used against a judo blackbelt, even if you have spent 8 years practicing you might not even throw him once. If a rando had started punching him the judoka could have easilty tossed him. But you can say the same thing about boxing, two pro boxers can fail to knock each other out for dozens of minutes.
Yeh, that's what surprises me. I'm thinking that, especially at high level competition, people just not practicing judo with strikes. Min 4:12 - Japan vs. USA - How is that called an European Championship again?
Like they say, it's easier to have an apology accepted than get a permission. So grab by the hair all match long and then do a public apology as if you didn't intentionally play foul. Yet again, Travis Stevens has mentioned quite a few times how he played dirty tricks, and that quite frankly many others play dirty tricks in matches especially if they can't be caught. And that somewhat every top athlete plays at the edge of prohibited, tiptoes on the rule limits.
But you know, already in the intro the landing on the neck was very visible. It is really not necessary to rewind it and zoom in.
The japanese vs american case wasn't all that crazy. There was no mate, american retreated to the edge, started inspecting her leg in poor balance. The japanese had all the reason to play by the book and grab the win. The last one was a similar situation. You don't just post around during the match. You suck it up if the referee makes a call you don't like, by all implications there had been a hajime. Your coach maybe protests but you're in a match.
I assume the federation penalizes players who disrespect the tatami rules or violent behavior.
