- Sometimes you just want to know if someone is rich or not. Some of our friends are keeping a secret! For good reason as rich people probably do not want to get targeted or taken advantage of just like anyone. But there are plenty of signs that can point to someone's wealth aside from the obvious house, car, and jewelry. These more subtle signs of wealth can be a lot more reliable when you combine all of them togther.

funny, I stopped caring about this kind of stuff ever since I started learning about FIRE, etc. You never know someone's personal wealth situation. It's all hidden no matter what. Even people who fly first class could be in crippling debt and people wearing old sweatpants can be multimillionaires. Treat everyone with respect and kindness, we are all people just trying to do what we can.

It’s nothing wrong with dressing nice but to actually make our judgements of people based on that isn’t right. When you get to know people you see it’s a lot of really cool, interesting people out here and appearance doesn’t always tell the whole story.

In Sweden, Norway and Finland you don't have to guess who's rich, it's public knowledge published by the government.
In Sweden, Norway, and Finland where I believe healthcare and education are generously subsidized/ free I would feel rich being an average income earner. Lol 😭

They will care what you do, if it can help them reach their goals, financially or otherwise. I agree that most people ask immediately what you do for work, but isn't that the easiest way to size someone up? That's what human beings do. For most people, what they choose to do for work says a lot about them, and answers a lot of questions on it's own. It doesn't say everything, but it says a lot.

Sorta like this, an example, I need a car, the nearest places by me are hiring but not accept my application, even knowing I qualify for it and have good resume and experience/knowledge in hand. How am I able to work? Some people enjoy flipping patties, some don't. Some people enjoy labor intensive work, others don't, and they may have there reasons as to why they like it, and not all of them had a option to pick and choose what they wanted to do. They just found were they where accepted and went to work. Even if it meant doing things that others would deem not socially acceptable or moral. If anything I would base it on there work enthic and effort individually for the person themselves. Being that some people are just completely different than others. While collectively paying attention to the highs and lows of that the participants to kinda sum it all up. But that would be mean. lol
In my experience, it is the opposite. The first thing they ask is about work. Then they are interested in hobbies and occasionally invite you to a golf game where the real business is discussed.
The richest man on the planet is the one who needs the least.
So, an altruist or a monk? 😂 I'm not convinced, sorry. If your needs are very low, you are most likely not rich. Rich develop very sophisticated needs, not even always monetary!
Rich is relative.. if you have God, health, food, shelter and family - it's plenty!

I'm not rich (actually, had zero income for a decade) and I use cash for everything. In most cases, a person is too poor to be qualified for a credit card, that's whythey pay cash! It's very rare you'll even encounter a rich person, so think carefully.

One reason I refuse to purchase N*rthF*ce. Not only is the large and ridiculous logo prominently placed on the front chest of their outerwear, it's equally prominent on the back shoulder. For that reason, I've never purchased or worn one, and never will.

Another sign someone is rich is the illusion of extreme minimalism. If you're visiting someone's house and you see nothing at all in any of the cupboards or drawers. Not even an extra paper towl roll.🤔 🤯
This means that the person is so rich they keep their stuff in multiple buildings or homes. They have the luxury of keeping lots of supplies in a nother building detached from their homes and getting one item out at a time living in an extremely clean space. They don't care about having extra supplies in their home because they can just buy it where ever they are when ever they need it regardless of the price. Infact your probobly staying in an extea vacation home with minimal supplies. Where as us lower and middle class people only have one home or apartment to put our items and we are worried about having extra supplies, saving money, using things for multiple purposes and have way too much stuff in our homes making them messy.

Saying it's easier to be generous when you're rich is not the same statement as rich people are more generous. There's plenty of poor people who are generous, but it's not easier for them.

It can get very complex if you assume poor people share out of necessity (in hopes of building lifelines), so they can feel security in numbers, whereas wealthy people know they can rely on themselves so there's no need to build those lifelines. Just another perspective to think about.

He's discussing it in his own context, here in the United States. It's logical that when you have more of something, it's easier to part with some of it. Now that I have more, I give more to others and spread it around more. I can spend more on gifts, tip more for services, and make more charitable contributions.
Most rich people who worked hard to earn and accumulate the money are very frugal. They may buy some nice things for themselves, but will pay cash for it. But, they won't blow their money on things they don't need. They buy things that are reasonable in cost in relation to their earnings.
Most wealthy will not borrow money and pay interest. They will never allow themselves to get in to dept. Rich people like to look like they are ordinary. If they buy something that is a luxury item they will not want to show it off.
A big indicator is how much free time they have.
When one can choose to do whatever with the limited time...

Genuinely wealthy people seek life experiences, not objects, since objects can effortlessly be purchased but experiences require investment of time and money, and are often the most memorable. You can reach a point where you have amassed whatever objects that you want (within reason) but can never experience all that this world has to offer in one lifetime.
Good Video Man. Interesting concept that gives you something to think of. I personally know quite a few millionaires who do not look wealthy day to day or even care to. They are focused on other things and just built up wealth over time.

these things are sooo true!!! i realized i was the poorest one when - at work - our paychecks didnt hit our account at the same time as normal and i asked around like 'oh did you get paid?' 🤔 and my coworkers were like deer in the headlights, like 'uhhhh i dont know' and i was just like 😓😓😓😓 but rent is due next week like how do you not know! 😤 luckily that was years ago now. i still check if i get paid on time but just due to habit now, not necessity anymore 🥳

Having a designer pet too (or multiple pets) usually points to financially well off. That bengal cat or shiba inu isn't cheap. lol Same people don't bat an eye if they have to pay for vet bills, pet rent, dog walking, pet sitting, etc. It's slowly becoming a luxury to even have a regular pet, imho. Also, their kids (if any) will also go to really good schools, even if they aren't raised as spoiled brats. Cars and luxury goods rarely seem to mean anything to them. That money is usually all in the bank or tied up in owning multiple homes. And I also have noticed wealthy people to be polite but quick to move on to another task.
Both of my Siamese cats were second hand, many breeds at the pet shelters also available. Fancy pet is definitely NOT an indicator. Go to poor areas and check out people's pets there, you'd be very surprised!
If you see them in the front seats at a venue, concert or a sports game. They are wealthy aka Jack Nicholson, Steve Ballmer, Mark Cuban.

I think it's important to differentiate between rich via inheritance vs. rich by wealth building. Something you don't mention is that... people who are rich by wealth building also tend to have large networks and hang out w/ other rich people. Sure, there are introverts that have a few million (which is meaning less and less these days), but for the people $10M+ who made it themselves, they typically had to build a business and that requires a mindset where you leverage other people.
Less and less each day? . It shld be increasing trend. And ways to make money is easier online before. Example crypto and trading/investing or IT related.

@@ustradingdiary Since crypto's gains are due to demand for crypto rather than some productive enterprise (e.g. extracting/selling oil over the course of decades), it will always be a small fraction of the wealthy. In other words, if everyone is rich because of crypto, who is actually doing anything? Even if you make money online, to grow your enterprise you have to hire engineers, account managers, etc. The Internet has increased opportunities, but I think this only amplifies opportunities for people who can build productive teams toward a common goal.

Fortunate enough to know (not as close friends) a few good natured low keyed millionaires. Surprisingly they are good listeners, refined conversationalist with positive attitudes & never boastful about anything. Heck, that's probably how they became successful in the first place! I'm sure on the other end of the spectrum are the high profile "look what I'm driving & wearing now" expressed in highfalutin language and mannerism, ala hollywood-style who will forever seek attention from everyone, especially to the next "Jones family" in sight. But as you inferred to, these people are probably not as wealthy as they project outwardly, can you say Hello Mr. Ex.

Phone repairs only cost like 30$ if its just a cracked screen and your handy with technology.... that mark up though is just people trying to make money sorta like how nikes/jordans cost like 30$ to make but are sold for like 4x the manufacturing cost.

Hmmm. From my experience the truly wealthy drive used cars because they let others amortize away the new car smell, live in the same home for many years, and live a very humble lifestyle without pretension.

It depends on how you define rich or wealthy, surprised you didn't talk about this in the beginning of the video.
With that said, having money or being rich can achieve the items on this list by sheer force of cash. While having and understanding money, or being wealthy, makes many of these items "free."
For example, if one qualifies and can support them, there are credit cards that can grant you flights, hotel stays, cellphone protection, and the list goes on.
This give credence to the saying, "once you have money, everything seems to become free"

You really can't, atleast I think. Most people think rappers/musicians are rich. The life they portray most of the time is just to appeal to a certain demographic. Most of there stuff is rented or under some kinda contract but really don't own shit. Especially in the music videos.
Exactly, and a lot of those people are literal prisoners of their own art. They in live in gilded cages, often compelled to perform, sometimes singing and/or performing songs written FOR them by someone else because some team has decided that that’s what will sell best. I don’t know if many people consider how dark things can get once you “make it”

@@iBeJuicenallday essentially the constant pressure to “produce”, to appease the fans, to keep the manager and the rest of the team happy (translation: $$$$$ = “happy”) It’s not a coincidence why drugs and the music world typically have such a close bond. What started off as something you did just for the love of it, is now a job, monetized, with a boss telling you one thing, band mates (if you have a band) telling you something else, your fans telling you something else entirely.
This isn’t every musicians plight of course, but usually things get hot and hairy the higher one climbs, the more popular one becomes. Fans want more tours and more material, managers and the rest of the team want the same. If one is not built and/or prepared for that, the pressure will eat them alive. It’s why a lot of them burn out and say “F the music industry”

rich is measured in dollars and wealthy is measured in time. e.g. if you have 1 million but spend 250K a year. you're only rich for 4 years. wealthy people, on the other hand, spend less than they earn and invest/save their money to build long-term, sustainable wealth. so it's better to be wealthy than rich. ;)

It’s worth doing anyway, even if all you can do is lend a couple of bucks with no desire for it to be returned. Paying it forward from time to time has major psychological benefits
Edit: money is not necessary for paying it forward either. You can lend your time, perhaps a hand (i.e. helping a friend move all his belongings from his old place to his new one). That still counts

I'm very well off, I guess you might say extremely wealthy, because instead of japanese wagu steak last night, I opted for a BigMac value meal and with 2 apple pies. My credit score is superb, darn near 500! Vehicle is amazing, it makes about every noise you can possibly imagine, on top of smoking as it goes down the busy roads. I get so much attention from that and it makes me feel so special. I just literally love being beyond wealthy.

I know people who are wealthy who do not do any of these things and I know people who are not wealthy who do a lot of these things. I do not think that you can determine if someone is wealthy unless you look at their accounts - unless of course, they live in a mansion and you know it.
there are probably degrees of wealth as well. Some people who have reached financial freedom with only 500k net worth via cashflow hacking compared to someone who is still working but has huge net worth. If time is the most valuable asset, then rich is how much time you have left and how free you are.
This is just me, but I think one clue also but I think rich people don't like to pay for insurance because they can afford to replace something in the rare case it needs to be replaced.

They are not rich, they spend a lot of money. Lets say one does not have a car, a house, parents, wife and kids and spend just about 100k per year. This is like 300$ per day and pretty much in almost all countries. You can constantly travel around the world.

Well to do people typically do not know how much money they make in a year. They may know their net worth but they have no idea what they make or where all their income comes from.
I think you missed out on the most important point.
The best way to tell if people earn a lot of money is to hear what they consider luxury.

It would be nice if you defined "rich" and "wealthy". Perhaps you could read "Millionaire Next Door" and the like to get some actual facts on the behavior of "the rich". Much of what are presented here are, at best, hypotheses, and at worst, fallacies.
Yeah I work with a lot of people who I have to send reminders to that we owe them 4k or even 1,300 that they never noticed. Even telling them to use there 80 hours of paid leave so the company doesn't have to pay them overtime. It's nuts to me when I get responses that say thank you for the remainder I'll try to take that time off or I'll try to confirm I got paid the correct amount. 😂Like you have so much money you can't tell when your paycheck is short. Silly. I don't care how rich I became, I know where every penny goes.

I would posit that it is uncorrelated to wealth directly, but potentially transitively related via "freedom of expression". I would hope that people of all levels of wealth would have the moral fortitude to eliminate swearing from their speech.

There's no clear indication. I know wealthy people who live big and some that don't. I drive a 2001 Honda, shop Walmart & Aldi, nothing luxury for me. I have much more money than likely I'll ever need. I have a condo that's my home. I paid $92K 20 years ago. I know many wealthy people, some wealthier and some less than me. I see they drive themselves crazy with what club to go to, what show, where to travel and they seem crazy. I enjoy my simple life. One time I fell in love with a '69 GTO. I bought it to enjoy and all I got was attention and jealousy. I kept it 4 years and my happiest day was selling it.
The love from my dog and hanging out with him give me the most pleasure. Being able to sit in McDonald's slowly sipping a coffee and see the faces of America come in and out is a pleasure. I grew up around children of wealthy parents and some were just wannabees living beyond their means. Being away from them is also a pleasure.
Rich people seek wealth. Poor people seek validation.
