You answered the question I was thinkin about an hour ago. Shim it up and level it off. The cleaning tips were invaluable and that acetone was new to me so I'm glad you showed how to clean the brushes. Virtually everything is reusable which makes the whole process cost effective. All of my jobs will be in house so shimming and leveling is key
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!! Thank you for your feedback!!
Thank you Rhonda, for all your tips, ideas, and tutorials! We just got our Stonecoat order and are doing the prep work before starting, Love your video on multi color marble. We will be using several of the aluminite blue additives from Stonecoat as well as diamond dust, pearl and silver glitter for the kitchen and black galaxy with some blue glitter added as well for the other countertop. After watching many of your videos as well as Stonecoat videos, hopefully we won’t be scared, we’ll go forward and be creative!! God willing! 😁👍👏💪🙏🙏🙏

Thanks!😊
Thanks for sharing. I'm going to be trying this and getting planned. I will be going over my countertops which have tile on them. I watched the video's and need to really get them prepped properly before pouring. You make it look easy.
Great tips! I see so many countertop makeovers using epoxy and they never check to see if its leveled.
You are awesome

Great tips (not even a beginner...yet) How do you clean the drill mixer attachment? :)
thank you thank you thank you....I am getting ready to pour my first piece and I have been addressing the counter being level. And the straight edge thing I never would have thought about but makes complete sense.
You are very welcome!!! Thanks for watching! 😊😊
As usual, words of wisdom from you. 😁
Thank you! 😊
I’d like to see a demo with a double-ogee edge. Thanks for the tips.
Love you
Thanks Rhonda. This is the first time ive seen anything about cleaning the buckets brushes and trowels.
Ive never worked with epoxy before but your videos have given me the courage to start. I sure thought id have to buy new ones each time.
I’m glad I could help!!! Have fun!!
Thank you Rhonda for the great tips. I will be doing my laminate counter tops which has an integrated back splash. Should I cut the back splash off or can I do the Stone coat with back splash in Place. Thank you
Can I add another tip? Keep your work station CLEAN AND ORGANIZED. This will avoid you to make any mess on your project service or floor..
Thank you for these tips and your other informative CZcams videos. New subscriber! I was thinking about trying to make a granite type look on an old, very old outside, under a portal picnic table. It would get the morning sunshine on almost every morning. I put throw away, worn out, old highway signs, 5/8” thick, on top of the old 2x6s that were splintering. I filled in bullets holes with Bondo and I was going to try the epoxy on those old signs, but they are somewhat warped and for sure not level across the entire tabletop with dips and bows here and there. You probably saved me a couple hundred-dollar mistake. It would take a lot of Bondo to level, I could probably do it easiest with spackling. If I used spackling, and painted it with the Stone Coat (SCC) Epoxy under coating then the SCC epoxy and sealer, do you think it would work out since it only gets rained on rarely and what about the morning sunshine and yellowing effect.
Thank you you info is so helpful.?How do you do the back splashes of countertops that you can move
We fabricate our backsplashes just like we do our countertops, out of MDF. We then put them next to the countertop and pour them flat at the same time we pour our countertops. Once dry, you set them vertically in place and they match. 😊
You are such an inspiration - I have a shower tub I'd like to do because now that my shower is newly tiled, it looks dingy. I'm worried about how to get the epoxy to not dribble down with gravity. Do you happen to have a video on this? TIA!
Are you wanting to actually epoxy the inside of the tube? I really wouldn’t recommend epoxy for that unfortunately. I would stick with more of a resurfacing product. 😊
@@RK3Designs thanks for the quick reply. I’ve been going back and forth with this one and what to do. I was thinking maybe put some grit in the epoxy at the bottom of the tub. I did my vanity countertop and it came out soooo nice that now I want to do everything in epoxy 😂
@@RK3Designs oh and I forgot to mention - this is a shower tub, not a regular tub so it’s a flat square with sides on it that come up about 2 inches.
Ah thank you so much. You are a darling. I started decoupage boxes which are small and I'm terrified to work with the resin, so I've been procrastinating for almost 18 months. Whenever I'm just about to try, I lose my nerve. I wish we could send photos to you, but I don't think we can on comments. I eventually bit the bullet and tried 2 days ago. I made faaaar too much resin and had to throw most of it away. My little boxes are 17.5 x 13 cm only!! Anyway, a friend said she uses vaseline on the edges of her boxes, and not tape, if you only want to do the top of the box. She teaches decoupage and her trays and boxes are perfect. But.. oh dear. I made such a mess.!! I kept getting vaseline onto my fingers and it was a disaster. I'm a pensioner, and my hands shake. So that's why I kept smudging the vaseline. What do you think of vaseline? Or do you think tape is better? I was trying to prevent that little sharp edge that gets stuck to the tape, that I thought you couldn't sand.
My decoupage, and stationery boxes, coasters etc are so very small, so I don't think it is possible to work out how much resin to use!!
I need ideas with my craftsman kitchen table, it’s a linoleum top but it dips down a teeny bit
Just found your channel and am loving it ! I notice you don’t wear a ventilation mask. Can you speak to the risk of toxicity of the fumes the safety of wearing mask versus not and what kind of ventilation is needed? I hear so many opposing views. I’d love to know directly from a Pro!
First of all thank you so much for watching!!! The epoxy I use, Stonecoat Countertop, is very safe!! It has zero VOC’s, made of 100% solids so there are no solvents. I have good ventilation with my exhaust fans as well. There are MANY toxic epoxies on the market and proper PPE is recommended. Research the product you are using and check out their MSDS sheets. Hope this helped. 😊
Can you round off your edges with a sander if you don't have a router? I'm going to try my first piece which is a bistro table hopefully this weekend, so thanks so much for these tips!
You absolutely can! 😊 Good luck, have fun and thanks for watching!
SI am thinking about doing my first epoxy pour on a mdf table top. But I'm confused about sealing it with a latex paint and primer. Some say not to use water basesd paint it will make mdf swell. Others say its fine to use. Could you help me plz.
I’ve never had an issue with MDF swelling after using a latex paint in the 6 years we’ve been doing countertops. 😊
Thank you
If you have a pre existing counter top and the edges square or 90 degree what do you recommend to do edges. When it comes to mixing the product can you just use a paint stick or you have to use a drill with the stir attachment.
Depending on what the substrate is will sort of determine what your able to do. If it’s a Formica, you can actually router the edge. If it chips you can use Bondo to smooth. If you have natural stone, there’s really not much you can do.
Great info! Quick question. Does the acetone affect the epoxy at all?
It’s such a small amount by the time you squeeze and wipe the brush, it’s fine
I LOVE 💘 the tip for brushes!!! Saves money 💰!!!
Hi
I want to ask how do you coat multiple sides of an object (like a square)
I want to make a "granite" fireplace but i really cant figure out how to coat multiple sides of a shape and make it look good
very good information but yet i am too scared to start doing whatever you recommend cuz we do not have your products in southeast asia.
One question (for now.) Can a hair dryer be used instead of a torch? I really enjoy watching your videos!
Hey there. I’ve not had much luck with the hair dryers because the ones I’ve used just don’t get hot enough. If you have a really nice one it may definitely work. 😊
Do you follow how stonecoat finishes their countertops with all the sanding?
We use to sand to get a matter finish but now we use the Ultimate Top Coat from Stonecoat Countertops. So much faster, easier and much more economical. I do have a tutorial however showing how to hone with the multiple sanding pads.
What is the solution for lap lines from ultimate topcoat? Is there any recourse?
Unfortunately you’ll need to lightly sand and reapply.
When u do spray paints, before you add epoxy, do you have to sand the spray paint coat?
Are you spay painting your substrate? No you don’t have to sand it first.
Great video. I have a question... I did a sample board and followed all the directions for the color coat using StoneCoat epoxy. Only thing I did not do was the propane torching as I found no bubbles and figured it was, therefore, not needed. 24 hours later, the board was clear and not sticky.... beautiful! I used the proper trowel so had just a thin layer. However, it is 3 weeks Now and I can still make an imprint in that layer...no sticky spots tho. I have not put the clear topcoat on yet. Is there still hope for this layer completely curing?
You don’t have to wait for the color coat to cure before you put your flood coat. I usually do it the day after. You should have no problem with the flood coat hardening. 😊
@Bill and Elaine Smiley make sure you're mixing the epoxy well in the bucket. Also, make sure you have used the proper amounts of A and B. If you're using Stone Coat, it's equal parts A and B by volume-not weight. When stirring, make sure to scrape the sides and the bottom. It helps to put part B in the bucket 1st and then add part A. It mixes a lot easier. I recently did a piece for a client and had too many people wanting to watch me so I made a rookie mistake and put part A in 1st instead of B. I thought I mixed it well enough but the same thing happened and that color coat was soft. It all was fixed when I poured the final clear coat and you couldn't tell that coat was soft. It all worked out. Good luck!

How do the brushes react to the acetone? I noticed the liquid was very dark- not the normal color of acetone(well at least not fingernail polish remover! 😉🤣😂) Awesome tips!! Do you ever use masking tape underneath anymore??
The reason it was so dark was I had a class and the epoxy was tinted black and it all came off in the bucket. Even when it’s dirty, it will clean the brushes. I usually empty the bucket every month or so.
@@RK3Designs Thank you! 🤗😍 That explains it. 👍 Glad to know it survives for a month!
I had heard about sanding the straight edges, mine are straight and it’s laminate. Do I still want to use that same type of sanding process?
If you have to access to a router, you can use that. If the edges chip, just use Bondo to fill and sand smooth.
I used latex paint to redo my bathroom
Countertop. How long should I wait before I put clear epoxy on it?
I would wait at least 24-48 hours so the paint can off-gas completely.
Do we have to do the flood coat?
I recommend a flood coat on any finish that will be used for added durability.
How long does it take for the epoxy to dry? and do you need to put 2 coats or can you just do one? Thanks
Hey Kelly. Sorry just seeing this question. Depending on what product you’re using will determine the dry time. I use Stonecoat Countertop epoxy so my open time is about 45 minutes and I let it dry overnight. 😊😊
Hi...I've been watching your videos & love them. I want to resin a built-in vanity (no sink) in my bedroom. There's' a splash guard on the 3 sides..how do I go about applying the resin to the splash guards? Do you have a video on that?
First of all thank you for watching my videos. I do have a video on pouring with an integrated backsplash. For the best results, you’ll want to remove the backsplash if possible. If not, you’ll want to go with a finish that you apply before the epoxy so that your pattern doesn’t run. I’m hoping to get another video soon that addresses this issue. 😊
Who in StLouis Mo has done epoxy on their existing counters?
What did you wrap your torch with to keep it clean? Duct tape?
This is the BEST thing ever! It’s Press n Seal.
How do I know when to apply a top flood coat or when to leave it and apply the UTC? Thanks.
🌹
That’s a great question. I apply a clear flood coat of epoxy over the first coat of epoxy (color coat) to 99% of my products. It adds depth, and durability. The UTC is a roll on products that is applied after the epoxy is dry. This gives you an incredible amount of additional protection and we no longer offer our countertops without it. The only time I skip a flood coat and apply the UTC on the color coat is if I’m doing a shower panel or something that won’t have high traffic. Hope this all made sense. 😊
@@RK3Designs 👍🏻 I've binge watched your vids looking for a counter I want, so it made perfect sense. Thanks so much for that clarification.
🥂 After I do my counter I'm considering using it as a business thanks to you.
The decoupage boxes etc are 15 cm and less.. Tiny tiny ring boxes, coasters etc. It's impossible to figure out how much resin to use!
Any luck finding Isopropl. Or using a substitute?
I was able to find some alcohol through a wholesale vet supply. 😊
@@RK3Designs I found 99% industrial grade isopropyl alcohol on Amazon
Please, I have questions,I do it,my epoxy, but I didn't enough veins, how I can fixed,please.
Thank you
You can pour clear and add more veins over the top. This will give your depth in your veins.
@@RK3Designs Thank you
What are the dry time? Did mine 5 hours ago and firming up but still sticky. I'm worried I didn't mix enough because I didn't scrape the bucket just drilled for 3 min
Depends on the brand of epoxy your using, but dry time is at least 10-12 hours. I wait overnight 😊
@@RK3Designs I stayed up late doing this project and woke up 4 hours late panicked. Haha. Woke for a fathers day getaway and got back to a nicely hardened clearcoat. I USED Stonecoat countertop epoxy kit... learned a ton from all over plus your videos. thanks for you fast response... maybe a faq vid would be good? Idk. Take care
I’m glad it hardened yo for you!!! Hope you had a great Father’s Day!! 😊
How to fix sticky epoxy
you for got to mention use your epoxy right away on your project do not let it stand in the bucket once it is mixed by the time you answer the phone and come back you have a bucket full of harden epoxy and all that money you spent got wasted and progect ruined
You are right! I should have included that. Thank you!
