    Miravel hands down. Bought this reel and am soo impressed. Whisper quiet, robust, and paired with a 7’4 st croix with 10lb power pro….you literally have to focus to hear any line drag when fighting fish. It is the best setup I’ve ever had…they are perfect together! Who tf wants to shell out an extra $100 for something when you get a fantastic reel with the miravel!!? Absolutely a joy to fish with and light!

    Good review, buddy. Have to say I bought a 3k series miravel last week for a rod I built for my wife, and I'm taking it back this week. My vanfords and old ci4s are just better . The miravel had a few issues 1) won't close the bail while cranking (if it's oriented wrong , 2) started making a clicking sound ,3) gets really hard to crank 4) locked up . I managed to get it freed up and spinning again but the problems made me park it after 20 minutes, I was pre fishing a tournament so I waited untill i got back home , oiled it seems to be working OK now but I'm not taking any chances my vanfords and ci4+s never have any issues. Imo, get a vanford, don't deal with the headaches of this reel it has a ci4+ body, and that's the end of the similarities. I may just have just got a bad one, but if you own vanfords or ci4s, you probably won't be happy.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před rokem +6

      Hi Mark, none of the spinning reels are designed to flip the bail in all honesty. They are designed to be manually flipped which is the way I always to it. They just happen to trip if in the right spot. The Miravel would never, ever be as good as a Vanford or previous gen Ci4+ because of several tech features that are not on par like SARB bearings, Micro Module gear, one piece bail arm, X protect and others.

    Just as others have mentioned, it does need a dab of oil before you use it czcams.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e - put a few drops in through the convenient screw cap and you are good to go! I have fished several weeks with a couple of these, and I will be getting more in the future. I put these against my Abu Garcia Pro Max reel, and they actually perform a bit better than the Abu with some of my lighter cranks, and definitely just as good with the rest of my lures. My Abu is a bit more low profile and fits my hand better, but these are definitely not bad at all. You can almost get 3 of these for the price of my Pro Max. My only complaint is the thumb bar sits pretty high compared to my traditional profile Abu. Bring that thumb bar down a little and I’m sold on these all day long.

I do long cast 100 yards and the vanford is weak when handling the shock whenever i cast 100+ yards the vanford wiggles and i notice some parts of vanford are made out of plastic. But the Stradic is a solid reel and i've been using it for 2years and still feels like original.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před 10 měsíci +2

      The Ultegra is definitely more refined but doesn't have the low start up inertia that Miravel boasts being a core solid reel. Both are great choices but I suspect more longevity will come from Ultegra with its SARB bearings if you fish harsh environments.

  • @NoFro-TL
    @NoFro-TL Před rokem +1

    I’ve never owned a Shimano spinning reel. The Ultegra is only about 25 bucks more and appears to have much more features. Are those features worth it? I don’t know what a long stroke spool is. 7.1 ounces sounds amazing though.

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před rokem +2

      There's a few big upgrades in the Ultegra over the Miravel, S-ARB Bearings, One Piece Bail arm, Long Stroke Spool (taller spool for better management fo the line) plus the micro module II gear. In my opinion a more solid reel for sure but he Miravel is incredible for an entry level Magnumlite Reel

    • @JPDeRoseOutdoors
      @JPDeRoseOutdoors  Před 24 dny

      The gear matters if you are using techniques that require faster retrieve rates. The 2500S and 2500SHG have different gear ratios. Typically the XG models bring in 37” per turn, the HG around 33” and the standard low gear around 28” but this will also be dependant on the lb test you are using and how full your spool is. Basically if you want a faster reel, get the HG

  • @Tightt88
    @Tightt88 Před rokem +3

    For a $130 you don’t get a one piece bail wire? That is a pass for me. You can get that feature on the PFlueger President at $60 lol. Shimano is a waste of money. You can buy Quantum, Lew’s and PFlueger and get better reels for less. I mean just look at the Lew’s Mach II. You get 10 shielded bearings, aluminum frame, forged aluminum gears, a one piece, think bail wire, a nicer knob it looks nicer and the 3000 size comes in at around 8oz. So it’s not too heavy. People don’t waste your money on Shimano.

You get a direct connect crank arm, 7BB, one piece bail wire, piston bail system, aluminum handle and a rubber knob. All for $40. Shimano and Diawa both don’t offer that until you by their $80 plus reels. I don’t get where this narrative came from that Shimano and Diawa are so much better. They aren’t, I have had more Shimano reels break on me than any other brand. They just suck. I would rather buy Quantum, Okuma, Lew’s and PFlueger anyway. Again, Diawa has some good stuff. No issues with big kings so far as long as the rod is good and the line has a titanium wire, pulling 30 ish pound surf fish on 33lb with not much consideration to the braid integrity 😀 and never pulling line more than 100-150m.

      UPDATE: I bought two of the Vanfords and I have a half dozen of the miravels along with four of the Shimano 4000FG (the white with gold reels). I use them all often and have used the Vadnford now through this spring time (2024) So I wanted to update my experience with them. Fist I will just say my favorite reel is the Shimano 4000FG (they don't make them any longer but I have used them for 20 years and they are my favorite.
      But now comparing the Vandford and Miravel... Really there is no comparison. The Vandford is in a totally different class. That's just reality. I am not saying anything bad about Miravel, because it is smooth as butter but it is not even close to the Vandford. The only thing the same about the two is they are both Shimano so they are smooth and durable.
      With all oft hat said, if they still sold the Stradic 4000FG I would say buy it, but since you have to buy them used, I recommend that you spend the extra money and buy the best on the market which is the new Vanford. but if that is out of your budget, and you want a high end budget reel that truly is smooth, then the Miravel is a great reel, but it is not in the same category as the Vanford. Take care everybody, Tight lines and safe travels.
