Hey there, folks! This is a compilation of my prior Archie Sonic videos. There have been some minor changes but, otherwise, it is the same videos you saw then. I just wanted to put this first set of them together as a single video. Unfortunately, though I have subtitles uploaded for them, they are still processing after about a week of waiting. The original uploads all have subtitles though if you need them. Hopefully they will finish processing here soon though.
Also, I made a bunch of music that plays throughout the videos. Some people had commented about wanting to have the songs to listen to, so I made a second channel and uploaded all that music as a video there. I will probably be uploading more original music on that channel, so check that out and subscribe there if you're interested. Here's the link to the Sonic music: czcams.com/video/l0QILAN6EQs/video.html
As always, thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoy the video!
An 8 hour anylisis of the archie comics are yoy ok man
Where did you read all of them? I’ve been wanting to for awhile but can’t find a reliable source
The internet archive has most, if not all of the issues.@@awsomerykster1097
@@awsomerykster1097 Just search “sonic grabber zone” and you will find the website that has all of the Archie Sonic comics and many more.
Can you do Sonic Universe NEXT PLEASE :D
8 hours of a man who goes on a emotional roller coaster as he delves into a 20 year old comic book run based on a video game franchise about a blue rat from the 90’s.
He's not a rat!
He's a hedgehog.
@@awtlander erm then why is the game called "Sonic the Rat 2" checkmate
Actually 30, i know, we're old
@@yonaguy6978he’s saying that it ran for 20 years.
It touches my heart
Nothing beats the catharsis of reaching the Ian Flynn era and getting to see all the time you spent reading have a pay off.
I agree
Oh sweet, can't wait to watch this brief video! I'll put it on real quick while I microwave some popcorn.
Has your house burnt down yet?

Damn… this isn’t a video essay, this is a video novel
No, it’s a video bible
I have commented on the first part of this retrospective but I would just like to say... Thank you so much for these videos. For years Archie Sonic has been in a weird limbo regarding its reception and I was hoping for a deep analysis of this scale ever since I understood why people loved this continuity. Now my friends can understand why this comic was so beloved in ıts run between 2006-2017.
So... Thank you 🙏
This right here
I honestly agree with you, it's pretty amazing to see somebody do a deep dive on this comic series and show appreciation for what it was. And very good deep dives, nonetheless.
This is a pretty fun runback of all the archie ups and downs.
Also, thanks for not shitting on my art in the comic from a million years ago
you, sir, are a legend 🙌🏼 that is all
Wait which parts did you draw?.?
Dude! You're art still holds up, solid , timeless and cool. Love your art
I'd be hilarious seeing Tammy's reaction to finding out Robotnik died and was replaced.
Agreed
7:13:54
Oh wow, I've never realized that comic fans went through their own route of the Sonic Cycle just like the game fans
took me 4 days but i finally finished this video,, what a rollercoaster
I have listened and watched your entire Sonic series multiple times. It is my comfort series, getting me through some really tough times.
My mother died this past September, and your Knuckles videos in particular were just what I needed at the time.
Thank you so much, Lowart! You're one of the GOATs, for sure!
Genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for being one of the pioneers to discussing Archie Sonic as more than a comical footnote in the history of the series. It was both refreshing and rewarding (as an Archie fan) to watch someone genuinely appreciate it all without looking back at it the same way seemingly every Sonic fan looks back at anything Sonic related: a hint of self-loathing and contempt.
As someone who hasn't read a single page of Archie Sonic I have now watched each of these parts separately and now this compilation of them, I have no doubt that I will rewatch this multiple times in the coming months. Thank you for all your work for this Lowart and Ian
Theres nothing quite like watching this at 2am falling asleep then waking up sonic being the savior of Alians in space
Agreed
I’ve almost finished watching this entire video and I’d just like to say I find it absolutely hilarious that, even in this 8 hour retrospective, Rotor is hardly ever mentioned and whenever he is it’s just incredibly brief comments on how he literally never matters.
It’s really funny, despite being a “main” member of the cast and one of the main freedom fighters he just…never does ANYTHING. It becomes even worse when Tails gets his whole shtick as a mechanic, which used to be Rotors thing…so now he has even less of a use. It’s like every main member of the freedom fighters has some defining moments and character traits…except Rotor.
The main problem there is that Tails is the mechanic of the Sonic-verse, with Robotnik as the mad scientist. The Sonic-verse isn't fleshed out and complex enough to have room for two good-guy mechanics. So, it's natural for Rotor to fall by the way side. Sally and Bunnie, meanwhile, are filling a different niche than Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, etc. Not only is it easy to accept them as expansions of the Sonic-verse, but since they're some of, if not THE, original characters in their niche, they'll likely push out any new character who tries to take it. (Not that SEGA has attempted a character like Sally and Bunnie in the main series.)
The other is that, as a mechanic, it's easy to shove him into the role of "background character who provides new toys for the main cast," rather than focus on him as a character. I've never watched SaTaM and it's been decades since I read Archie, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the reason Rotor never got anything: he just got shoved into that role, and then Tails took over as the mechanic.
thank you for this. as an archie enjoyer myself, I'm glad someone found actually good things in this comic. personally I think flynn era has some of the best stories in the series and it's a shame for years everyone was like "woooow, what a weird comic! remember ken penders? when he created 400 echidnas? when charmy's friend died because of lsd? these comics sure were bad!", I'm sure these videos changed people's minds about it.
Hearing you say my name ("isn't that right, Adam?") after seven hours of vibing and drawing and not super paying attention had me spit coffee all over my tablet. Thanks, brah
It was really cool seeing what someone who didn't grow up with the comics felt about them as someone who did. It's funny how much we line up in thought on things. And it was over such a long period I read them that this unlocks a lot of happy memories for me and will definitely be saved to revisit. So happy you liked the space saga too. That era of art and the comic covers is what's most cemented in my head, along with the classic goofy stuff always telling me to take scissors to my comics, which I could never bring myself to do. Also! I wrote Sonic and asked if he liked pickles (I was obsessed as a kid) and he said "Mm. Pickles are okay I guess. But I prefer chili dogs!" Had a cool Archie stamp on the letter. Made me so happy they wrote back.
I wanted to thank you for doing a retrospective on the Archie Sonic Comics, Lowart. I never grew up with these comics and I always heard mixed things about them. So I greatly appreciate you explaining what made the comics great while also not shying away from discussing its many problems and low points.
I gotta say… This entire retrospective is Way past cool and you guys really did a good job on explaning it’s highs and it’s lows and why some sections are cool and why some sections are… 7:06:43… Well… you get the picture.
I’m not done with watching This compilation yet but… dear walkers! Dr. Lowart is a criminal?! The Lowart Lore keeps on expanding (lol).
Jokes aside, these videos convinced me to read all of Archie Sonic (yes, I was insane) and because of that, I became a fan of a book I never thought I would be so much into, and I cannot wait for the future videos covering the rest of Flynn Era to come out (You better show some respect to the green king and why he’s bein’ peak fiction).
Ye, scourge is underrated, such a shame a character that was created less than two years ago overshadowed him so easily
s(co)urge (how creative)
SCOURGE DESERVES RESPECT DAMM IT!!!
For me, Yardley’s style perfectly fuses the game’s modern designs with the OG comic’s expressions. I was honestly watching this video just waiting for the moment I could start recognizing his panels, even if that took 5 hours😂. I love the hell out of this comic and it makes kid me ecstatic to know that I wasn’t the only one who felt the same
I'm actually ecstatic over you uploading this as a whole thing, I adore having longform essays to just put on and vibe too, and the longer, the better. Time to watch all of these once again instead of doing other productive things, I can't wait
I’ve been watching this video on and off for a few days and have seen 3 title and thumbnail changes. Never change Lowart
To be fair with the Amy thing no one really went to school until after robotnik was killed so they'd all be around the same knowledge.
as the comments have clearly stated, your hard work hasn't gone unnoticed. the early archie sonic comics are some of the most inconsistent, insane stories sonic's ever seen, but i and many other archie sonic fans have no doubt gotten so tired of that painting the reception of the entire run, including issue 160 onward. i truly believe that ian flynn's work on the comics is the best storytelling the series has ever seen bar none, and i'm so happy to see it get the attention and love it deserves as in depth as you go. your editing is stellar, the script's flow is so clean that the hours of these videos just fly by, and your analysis is thought-provoking to say the least. i can't wait for all of your future videos surrounding the comic's excellent run, i just love that era so much and there's so much to discuss - i know the videos are gonna kick ass!
Great video, I grew up reading and absolutely loved the chaotic world of archie sonic and the characters within it. I enjoyed this video reminiscing the issues and how I felt about some of them, thanks for this and looking forward to seeing more
I started with sonic super special #1 when I was nine, and then read from issue #51 to like 70 something. I never read any other comics until recently when I got super into Manga.
I absolutely LOVED the complicated depth and long winded explanations. This comic series will always have a special place in my heart.
A Brief Look? This is EIGHT HOURS 😭
… I will be watching.
I really got a lot of this and your analysis of the series, thank you so much for this MAMMOTH effort, and I hope any sanity sacrificed is restored 🐒💛✨
9 minutes after this upload went public. Lowart, you're a legend. You did something I could never dream of doing.
I wonder what Tammy is doing now and what she thinks of the series' developments after her letter to Eggman.
Thanks for letting me revisit my childhood again, these past 8 hours were nothing but a pleasant and stimulating trip, hope to see the next parts ahead!
Such a great video, Never in my life I would imagine getting into Archie Sonic, and yet by almost 9 hours essay video about the ups and downs of this comic, such an masterpiece of a video!
Here you dropped this: 👑
I got no words. This is amazing! I can't tell you how much this means to me.
this is genuinely one of my favourite sonic related videos on youtube. your channel deserves way more attention :)
Excited for the look back on the Sonic Universe comic. That was probably my favorite series as it gave more story to these characters lives while making them enjoyable
Currently 3 hours in, i really really appreciate this kind of love and attention that’s poured into a project about the sonic comic.
I was OBSESSED with this series as a kid, around 2010. I read them all digitally and I actually managed to binge through most of it. I loved the Wii sonic games (yeahhh I know) and this comic was just so COOL to me. I stopped reading around when the Megaman crossover happened, and got into reading more “adult and artsy and serious” graphic novels, but I’ve always had a soft spot for this comic.
I’m an animation student and I think I’ve subconsciously been inspired by this comic in my own work more than I realized. The stuff with EVE and the second Verti-Cal and Horizont-Al story always stood out to me especially
I started collecting the Archie Sonic comics waayy back in the early 2000s while i was living in Okinawa. Sadly it was hard to get more than 2 issues in a row due to the English comics being imported to the mitary base store in infrequent spurts. Its so wild as a 32 yr old to learn about the Penders fiasco and know that the random Archie comics i still have in my box are relics of a bygone era in Sonic history😂😂😮
I appreciate this video because i was never able to collect many issues in a row due to being a broke preteen living overseas😅😅You summarize the overall story of the Archie run in such a fun and comprehensive way- mad props to you!! This aging Sonic fan appreciates all the work it mustve taken to make this 👏👏👏👏Now i know all the stories i missed!! And of course im keeping all my OG Archie Sonic comics...they bring back great memories and i love reading through them in all their glorious craziness😉
Rotor being diminished to “this guy” was so damn disrespectfully funny 😭😭😭 5:14
6 months later and CZcams still can't get their shit together with the subtitles lol awesome videos man! thanks for uploading the compilation
This whole series is such a trip and a joy. Thank you for it the intense amount of effort it must have taken to put it together! I stilll remember the fill-in-the-blank sections, the Knuckles explanations, how things changed with Flynn's arrival... Gave new appreciation for the old stories, and the characters, and the fun creativity, storytelling, and ideas involved, and helped me understand the ups and downs throughout. Rock on and kudos!
I could listen to you talk for 9 hours everyday! You have amazing charisma dude!!
This essay bangs i come back to listen to more when im sad
I really want to write a comic of myself
I remember reading this comic as a kid
You just showed me why I remembered it so fondly
I was to replicate that fondness
Loved the separate versions, really stoked you posted an omnibus!
Gonna have to listen through it all again.
Once again. Thanks for making me feel things about a comic I never read, based on a game franchise that was never really my favorite anyway!
When I tell people “Return to Angel Island” was my First issue of the comic. They understand why I became a Sonic Megafan if I stuck through the Post-Space era of Sonic.
I've always wanted to get into this comic, and this is exactly what I needed. It's like eating the sticky lemonade syrup instead of taking the time to add the water and ice. But now I actually want to experience Archie myself. Comics are my favorite part of this franchise anyway, can't wait to finish watching!
Yo, I stumbled upon your Archie Sonic videos not too long ago. This is an incredible series you put together. I was able to collect a handful of issues when I was a kid in the 90s with the little bit of cash I scraped together from mowing lawns in the neighborhood. I really didn't think anybody cared about this series until I found your channel and went down the rabbit hole. Thanks so much for compiling them all into one big video!
gonna echo a sentiment - thank you for a more reasonable look at the Archie Sonic than we’re used to. I did love this comic growing up and with all the memeing on it in recent years I had kind of forgotten why. loved this retrospective, thank you.
I deeply appreciate your work, Lowart. I've always had an interest in these comics but I've never been able to actually learn much about them, so your series was a huge help!
Your retrospective was great. It shows that no matter how bad this comic got, it was, at the end of the day, way past cool. It was ambitious, and for that I will always respect and love it. It was at the very least, even at its lowest points, entertaining.
I don't make many CZcams comments, but I need to say something. Thank you. I've grown up reading through nearly all of Archie between my Middle School and very early High School years and adore this series. I'm in college now, not in a good spot mentally and physically but throughout this trip down memory lane I felt myself be that kid again going through these comics. Just thank you so much for this... The world of Archie just has meant so much to me and I really needed this. Can't wait to see your future videos!!!
Thanks for making my drawing weekend so much easier, Lowart!!
It's an interesting choice to use US CD themes for those like Sally and Geoffrey. Many of the US CD themes are very "organic", especially Palmtree Panic.
Sally's like Yoshi. The percussion that keeps up with and stabilizes with the main theme.
crazy thing about this video isn't that it's 8 hours long, it's that it's 8 hours and still less than half of the story
Is it too late to send in a fan mail expressing my love to the editors of this video lmao 😂
Man, what a trip... Great video man! 😎👍 Very cool to learn more about this series being a big Sonic fan and after having slightly dabbled in it before! I can't wait to see what you create next!
I gotta say... I think the old thumbnail was more appealing
Yes. Yes! Oh you know I’m diving in to watch this compilation even if I’ve already watched the other videos. Thank you to you and IanWaffles for going into depth with these. They were a huge part of my childhood and were the catalyst for getting me into the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They have their ups and downs and yall delve into that so well. So thanks
I’ve been here since I’d imagine before you started the series and I’m happy to see the first giant half so far in one giant video so far tbh
Proud to have a giant video combining everything so far. Definitely excited for the future
Dude! This has straight up become one of my favorite videos of all time. When I was a kid obsessed with Sonic, one of the few pieces of Sonic memorabilia were the Sonic archie comics, which my mom would buy me from the local big supermarket. However I rejected archie Sonic because as being someone who only had access to some of the games and having watched Sonic X, had no reason to invest myself in the strange and unfamiliar characters. This video has given me a proper appreciation for a piece of media, that although has lightly facinated me for years, I've never properly understood or gotten a grasp of. Thank you for putting together this wonderfull ~9 hour experience 🙏.
What about Sonic Boom?
Longest video I have EVER watched. No regrets! Thank you.
I never knew this series was so in depth and so good I’m only an hour in but I’m hooked
I love how your tails voice sounds halfway between Mickey mouse and towelie haha😂
This series is such a godsend.
I'd read random issues of archie sonic and sonic universe here and there and always thought that what i read was fantastic, but had no idea where to start.
This gives me the chance to jump straight into what i feel are some of the best versions of my favorite characters, Archie Sonic fuckin rocks.
Absolutely amazing video series! I’m so glad I have enough hyper focus to just get lost in this video over and over again.
I’ll probably go ahead and read the comic I’ve been wanting to for a while now. Part of me wants to also delve into IDW but I just can’t get the same feeling from that series. I think the overall stories are amazing but the characterization just isn’t there as much.
Maybe one day you can take a look at it and see for yourself because the art and stories on their are pretty amazing, though I don’t think anything can beat this comic with all its charm and history. Even if half of it wants to make us all pop our eyes out of our head to look like E.V.E
as someone who watched the knuckles lecture video on loop in the background when it dropped the latter half of this video was so satisfying
Such a good series you have produced
These videos really did convince me to read the sonic comics, which i always found interesting to wiki dive into
I'm just glad we have a wrap up of the Mecha Sally arc thanks to ArchieSonicOnline.
I like the new thumbnail, big improvement
i love these vids so much, archie sonic is genuinly my favorite part of the entire franchise
best thing to watch while drawing Shadow the hedgehog... I love it
i watched the other ones all the way through and ill watch this one all the way through again too
*An absolute banger of a video* 😊
I’m about to listen to all of this start to finish
Aaah yes finally, the video I've been waiting for. I will have to watch this in spurts but I'm excited to see this.
I'm sure you get a million of these but...
You have GOT to do a series based on the IDW series.
You're way too entertaining, I need to hear your thoughts about IDW having read all of archie.
Not going through this whole thing again any time soon, but I'll give the collection video a Like and a comment for the road.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!! you literally just saved my life bro (T o T ..) i tried dipping in on archie sonic a couple years back (somewhere random in the ian flynn era) and had a lot of fun!! but had this awful itch about how there was so much backstory behind it that was having me miss so much;
but dear lord i DEFINITELY didn't want to have to go back and read that all myself, especiallyyyyy hearing about the quality dips, but now i feel like i got the worlds best comprehensive summary i could ask for; fully filling me in on the comic's sort of outward history and inside lore, so if i do ever want to pop back in again i can, and know just where to!!! :D
what an incredible retrospective and product of so much love and hard work-- thank you sosososo much for this!!! all near 9 hrs of it kept me so much more engaged than i could've possibly imagined, i put it on originally as background noise but soon my primary task became my background task and then i wound up just dropping it altogether so many times so i could just lock into you what you were saying or just the craziness of it all. you should be very proud
This is an emotional rollercoaster. Especially with Fiona causing Sonic and Tails to fought each other
Im so glad i got to read a lot of these as a kid
I had been wanting to read these comics, and the original video finally convinced me to start!
Now that I'm 271 issues in and approaching the end, I gotta say, I regret everything.
Sad to hear that
All Hail Mecha Madness. 47:38 The best art and best story Archie dared to make! Not even Fleetway attempted this.
Half way through, this video is awesome
it's 3AM. I see this in my recs. I grab an energy drink, a snack, and SCREAM INTERNALLY BECAUSE IVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR A LONG VIDEO ABOUT THESE COMICS. I'm so fuckin ready for this
Thank you!! Thank you for appreciating the comics for me! I do hope to see a video on Scourge because he was one of my favorite thing out of Archie. He was actually what got me into Archie comics! I loved that he was really Sonic but evil and that the circumstances were compelling fron what i remember. Also that comic between Scourge and Jules is so powerful! Like he was expecting Sonic's dad was just as shitty as his but he was like No. And just told him off. Like it gives me goosebumps every time i think about it. But yeah thank you again for going through the archie series for me it does make the birthday comic feel 10x cooler ✌️
I NEED THAT NEXT PART lol but this will hold me over
I was unironically waiting for this compilation.
Yeah man, a "brief" look might be underselling it.
I've only ever caught up with the first part & Knuckles' but I'm excited to binge this one.
I love the genre of CZcams videos titled as being "brief" and being comically long
5:10:50 500 nickels exactly for that particular comic, yet still need more for any shipping fees and/or taxes.
Have you thought about making an iceberg of everything just from Sonic Archie comics? A Twitter made a good image. Would you be interested if I gave you the link?
Well, time to watch it again!
5:47 the best part about this fact is that it functions when it comes to voices. Fun fact: Jim Cummings the voice of SATAM robotnik was originally supposed to voice him AOSTH as well with a more comedic tone, before LJB took over the role.
man, that ian flynn guy sure did make this comic good. sega should start a new comic series, being published by another company, with flynn and the other people who made the era great working on it from the start, so it has a more accurate tone from the beginning, and not only that, but also have it be entirely cannon to the games. but sega would never do that because i couldn't figure out how to end this comment.
They did that with IDW… I personally didn’t like it because it kinda lacks the worldbuilding and changing the status quo and arcs that Archie had. And I Think it’s a Sega problem, and not a Ian problem.
Well here I go rewatching this glorious retrospective, and further hyping myself up for the inevitable Scourge character analysis.
your video failed to warn me, i wanna read the comics from the first to last comic book:)
Loved this review. Is it possible to review the Archie Megaman comics?
It took an entire deployment to read through the whole Archie series for me. Thank god some one uploaded an archive complete with a spread sheet on the order to read. Too bad it never concluded the Mecha Sally arch......thanks Penders.
