Just my .02 on the stream topic. I ran one of these intakes for looks and later on decided to see what the 82 year old truck could do at the drag strip. After tuning the truck to run its fastest time I managed a 13.56 at 101mph. This has a low lift 218/227 cam shifting at 6500rpm. I later put a 2008 suburban intake on it and didn't try to get the truck to go as fast as possible. I used the same tune that was consistent and not running the engine at its limits, I managed a 13.18 at 105.5mph. I had to do minimal VE tuning and nothing else. I picked up a bunch at the bottom end of the track due to getting off the line better than the other which improves the E.T. Just wanted to share my experience. I think I could have snuck a 12.9X if the season hadn't ended a month ago.

You could have done better with a higher stall. My c-6 Corvette runs a 11.80@121 because of a tight factory stall. My friends are all running close to 10's by adding stall converters. The converters fly over the 2,3,4000 rpm engine speeds where the engine makes only 200-400hp. My 60 ft time will go from 2.0 to 1.5 so I should see at least a 11.3 quarter with a 3200 PA stall. I can build a aluminum long runner intake.. kind of hard to describe but If you can picture the runners exiting the cylinder head out of a bullet aluminum flange, roll up and over to the opposite cylinder head and back. Can be done… but it would be a time consuming project. I would have to custom fabricate each runner using flat stock aluminum creating rectangular donuts to start. Or go with aluminum tubing bending with a tube bender. I don’t think the engine care’s if the tubing is round or rectangular long as the transition from the intake port to the inside of the runners is gradual. Once all the runners are made making sure the runners are longer and larger then the stock LS3 intake. The weld together. Then I can make a common plenum to package all the runners internally. Maybe protruding out if the length of the runners require more space.

One thing I noticed with people commenting on my LS3 stroker 416 built using the LS3 factory intake was…why would you use the LS3 intake when it looses power compared to the truck intake manifold . Why didn’t I get the FAST intake, it makes more power then the stock intake. I got to say there all wrong. I think all above is true for the LS1 LS2 cathedral port cylinder head combo’s.. the LS3 has rectangle port heads. That’s where everyone is mixing apples 🍎 with orange 🍊. The LS3 intake has the identical power numbers as the L92 truck intake manifold and the FAST intake really doesn’t do much better then the stock LS3 intake manifold . The only intake that actually makes more power (about16hp more) across the curve is the cast aluminum Holley cross ram intake manifold .. but if you want to dish out $2000.00 to make 16hp and buy a second throttle body just to find out now your accessory’s alternator and serpentine belts are int the way of the throttle body …that’s your proghtive. Personally at that point I’d be thinking boost instead😎.

Because the hardest thing in life for humans to do, is see perspectives other than their own… its hard discussing these intakes with “performance” guys but you have to accept that there are LOTS of people that build cars and want cars MOSTLY for appearance. I guarantee there is a larger number of those people than there are performance people. If you spend 2-4 years, blood, sweat, and tears building a “cool car”, you want a cool looking car. The sheet metal intake is the best looking intake available. Try to imagine the perspective of someone building a vehicle like that, that wants to go to car shows, cruise the boulevard at night and drive it on date night. With THAT scenario - there is NO better intake than the sheet metal intake. OF COURSE it gives up power down low with those short runners. Its completely irrelevant and unimportant to that category of people.

I have a 07 suburban with the 87mm drive by wire, want to put on a bigger throttle body. I think the inlet of the intake manifold is 90mm. I've seen 90mm LS7 and "92mm" ported 90mm TB, but most are gold blade and say they do not work with my year truck. What TB can I put on? Is there a work around?

I’m guessing that there are some aftermarket aluminum low rise LS2 intakes that are actually very high quality and made well because I have one in my hands and I’m trying to get it to flex and it’s quite rigid. I know I have to take what you say with a grain of salt at times.
