I learned this from the intro to the crossroads film, I think its Ry Cooder playing it but not too sure.... isn't quite perfect as the films audio distracts me.

How long would you say it'd take to learn the first 50 seconds for an intermediate but non-slide (usually) player?
Well I have played with slides on and off for a while, took me a few days hard graft to get this. But practise makes perfect (and I am still practising it ;)
Just to get competent on the slide alone before learning the tune is a good few months I've played guitar 40 years and only started playing slide about 3 years ago and I'm only now getting decent on the slide. Good luck I'd say with a lot of practice 6-12 months .
