I was like you about dust, until I ended up in hospital with pneumonia, and unable to breathe. It’s a hard lesson, take it from me as a victim of dust, you capital letters need 2 micron dust collection. It’s not expensive, but it will save your life. End of rant. Sorry but true.

we live in different worlds :) I'm a tinker, build my own machine from plans/loose ideas, indymill, converted part of it to a Cindymill hybrid, so now its a freak build, i did it all, made the plates, tapped all holes, did the electronics and so on ... and that's ok, now I'm ready to do as you do and get producing, and here my personality works against me, so good to see videos like yours just getting it done, deal with the fail, get up and get going again, i admire that alot

I was leaning towards the Onefinity Journeyman and after watching this video and hearing you cover just about all the questions I had, sharing your start up experiences as well as your critical comments, I'm sold on this machine, now I'll need to find a program that I can figure out and get comfortable with. Thanks for this video, it's answered a lot of my questions about the Onefinity. We were planning on getting a Millright CNC, but I think we're set on the Onefinity, now. I've been working on a closet out in our garage for the past couple of months soundproofing it in preparation for the CNC. I don't know how much research you've done into soundproofing but my advice with regard to your loft: Greatstuff foam every void, tape over every seam and nail hole in your air barrier, add a layer of mass loaded vinyl (or, if you're in or near Canada, Sonapan board), two layers of gypsym board with green glue between the layers. If you wanted to take it even further you could hang the drywall on resilient channels. There's also a sound deadening paint called Acousti Coat you can use. Before I insulated my studs (with rockwool) and after filling gaps I coated all the studs and backside of sheathing in the stud bays with 2 coats of liquid rubber. I also used clay packs on the outlet boxes.
I'm about to put up my first layer of drywall next week. After everything is painted I plan to build some parametric skyline diffusers and mount them in certain areas of the room, build corner bass traps.
Don't forget about your door, it will need to be soundproofed, too.
    Good luck!

Man, I wish I had seen this video before I bought my first CNC machine 4 weeks ago. It's been nothing but trouble. The Z assembly was locked up and would not move up or down; therefore, the machine would not home. Support had to walk me through a complete tear down of the assembly, I lubed the bearing blocks and de-tensioned a "back lash" spring. I was left on my own to re-assemble. Luckily, I am blessed this good mechanical intuition and tinkering skills. I was able to get it back together. Now I've discovered the left Y motor is not working at all. The right side motor alone was driving the gantry. I can't believe the whole thing did not explode. That discovery required another tear down and isolation-of-parts journey. Seriously? They obviously don't do quality control testing before shipping. They can't - the customer has to completely assemble everything; and like you said, if that is not your strong suit, then it could be trouble.
So after nearly 5 weeks of ownership, I have yet to carve a single successful project. Kind of stings when you've spent $3200. Anyway, sorry, to vent on your channel. It's not your problem. Sometimes my timing just sucks. Thanks for all the great information. I'll stick with what I have for now and see if I can make it work. Otherwise, there is a OneFinity machine in my future. I subscribed; keep the great videos coming.

Onefinity Machinist purchased today. I am going explore everything not related to woodworking. Is this "Machinist" up to the name will be determined. I am starting with just the machine and adding a Home Machinist appropriate controller, limit switches, stepper drivers, and .75hp DC spindle, the minimum. Upgrades will be made and tested all of it to see if any of it was worth the time and investment. Let the fun begin!

On the subject of dust collection and if it's important. People often don't appreciate what a huge fire hazard fine dry wood dust is floating around everywhere. Combine that with continual sparks from inside 110 v AC motors and it's really a very high priority to control dust even if you don't care about if it's in your lungs.

It helps to make and install little sweeper brushes and install them on the rails in front of the bearings I made mine out of dish washing sponges. As for wiring yes, I don't understand why Onefinity made such short wires putting the control box a inch away in the front left corner is probably the worst place to put a computer it would get so much dust in it. maybe they want to keep the price down but they should charge the extra 50 bucks and give you a usable length of wiring they all should be about 10' longer really. I put drag chains on mine and had to extend every wire on the thing and also on the lazer. Also getting the 80mm spindle bracket and the 80mm 2.2kw spindle kit off amazon the router is to loud and has brushes

I think that really depends on your budget. I've got a huge 3hp Jet Cyclone that would not leave a spec of dust on the CNC, but that comes along with piping and power. So the Festool that I have does the job for now. The festool probably gets 75% of the dust. I think If I were to have done it all again I would get the wall mounted 4" dust right system and just be fine with the noise from it. Hope that helps!

I put a router together awhile back. Cnc becomes a second full time job. It is one way to pay for your machine and learn as you go. I purchased V carve pro after looking around. My machine is setup to start the spindle automatically linked to a solid state relay. It is not too hard to get working, and well worth the effort. Leaving the machine running and unattended is risky. However it is your machine. Stepper motors lose steps and all hell can break loose. Your video skills are impressive. The plan to run many machines in the loft will require multiple electrical outlets. But you are aware of that. I hope you retain the level of enthusiasm that you seem to have. Try and pass some of that off to the rehab people.
