In this extremely rare recording you'll listen to Khan Saheb’s masterful rendition of 3 ragas: [1] Raga Pahadi Jhinjhoti,[2] Raga Jog and[3]Bhairavi Ragini from the 1985 live concert in Amsterdam. Khan Saheb presented 3 hours of astounding performance that will take your mind to the state of divinity and fill your heart full of eternal bliss. Special thanks to the uploader.
I'm speechless. Really unbelievable to find this concert and especially this Bhairavi Ragini! I was among the audience and witnessing Ali Akbar Kan's playing that night was an unforgettable, profound and soultouching musical experience! 28yrs have passed and when hearing it again I'm astonished by how well my memory kept atmosphere and sections of it all this time, esp. the final 20 mins! This is an absolute highlight in my career of listening! A priceless upload! Like a dream coming true. THX!
I am spell bound by the rendition. This is for the Gods ears only. I am lucky to be able to listen to this divinely music. There will be never be another Ali Akbar Khan . Great Bengal's hall of fame must treasure the notes on the strings of Sarod created by this master genius for eternity.
THIS is most dear to me, since I heard it in1978 on a cassette collection from the College. I was living in the middle of the Alberta wilderness..and I lay listening atop an 80 foot high tower in the full moon true story (fire lookout)
I can never forget Ustad Ali Akbar Khan' performance at our house in a baithak. I was just 9 years & enjoyed every moment of it. I can listen to him forever. Ashima Roy Chowdhury, New Delhi
I was here, in the Moses and Aaron Kerk in the Waterloo Plein in Amsterdam! One of the most amazing concerts I've ever been to and where I had a true rasa experience. I'm blown away to find it here! I was in the mood for Khan Sahib so I googled it and here this amazing historic concert pops up! I knew Huib Schippers had recorded it, but I didn't know what happened to the recording!
This might be my favorite Bhairavi . . . Khan Sahib really shines in this one . . . what a beautiful, unique and precious existence . . . so lucky to have these recordings so we can all be inspired by him . . .
This raga is actualy MISHRA Bhairavi. It means that player uses not only notes from bhairavi scale, but he can play every note in chromatic scale (all 12 notes). But the main tune / theme / mood remains bhairaivi.
Hi there.Actually, you can use all the notes that arent "officially" used in bhairabi..like suddha re..tibro ma..shudhho ni..suddho dha..if you have that expertise. And,Its Ali Akbar Khan we are talking about.Ustad Nikhil Banerjee learnt at his feet.If you havent heard of him..plz try his bhairabi.its here in youtube.Maybe then you'll get an idea about what we mean by Ali Akbar Khan..:)
I wondered why he introduced shudd gha and plays around with komal/shudh dha so soon. Its playful and in the case of the gha gets you thinking of bhairav as well.as bhairavi
Ali Akbar's music often seems to start slowly slowly, like a dream, and builds to a frenzy. At 5 am every morning I start yoga practice with him. It suits my state of mind, my conscious awareness is still dreamy, slow and unfocused.
There has been no one so far who has created the Bhairavi vibrations with such finesse. Amongst the Bengal's musical prodigies, a galaxy of innumerable world renowned greats truly Ali Akbar Khan's this rendition is outstanding. One should listen to this on a hill top on a full moon night to perceive its divine qualities.
I'm what one would call a complete classical-music deaf person: in most classical performances I've tried to listen to, the initial alap always has me fidgeting because I "don't understand what they're trying to do"....but hoo boy, this piece dragged me head from the first second itself. I am sure somebody who knows the technicalities of what is being played will derive so much for pleasure from this than I ever can, but even at the most base level of "liking what I'm hearing", this is stunning
Divinity of Bhairavi descends on the strings when the instrument is Sarod and is in the hands of Ali Akbar Khan. Bhairavi is the name of the Godess of TIME. This rendition is truly immortal blessed by the Godess of TIME.
Overwhelmed. Listening this rendition is like passing through dream, snatches of different ragas mixing with 'bajuband...' and how they are not discordant but becoming baroque, homogenous, I am failing to understand. This is not a Mishra or Ragamala. Seems the whole grammar of ragas are being re-written or may be I am thoroughly confused. Like some unknown addiction, may be LSD! Peculiar intoxication. i can only see the inscrutable smile of this Godplayer. From 44:25, starts return of the prodigal son, that also by a new route, incredible!!!
IN FUTURE THESE TYPE OF MUSIC RECITAL WILL NOT BE CONTINUE BECAUSE THEIR NEXT GENERATION LOOSING INTEREST DUE TO COST OF LIVING GOING HIGH THEY CANNOT EFFORT IT ,GOVT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEM ALL .
+Anita Mukherjee The audiences are less educated about this music but governments rarely help and will only create more people with low motivation and an entitled attitude. Great music will ebb and flow like the tides.
The government should take care of them all? Where does the money come from? I know you have a money tree and you also know the government has one too. It's a tree called tax payers and just how much tax would you like us to pay? maybe 110%.

You can feel very blessed being there, absolutely amazing it is
The music comes from soul and both Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandir Swapan Choudhary seem to be totally immersed. Divinely performance

No Sir, it is not that simple. He is mixing oil with water and that too, homogenously, the partition medium is his technical brilliance.
I wondered why he introduced shudd gha and plays around with komal/shudh dha so soon. Its playful and in the case of the gha gets you thinking of bhairav as well.as bhairavi
One can feel the depth of his soul through this piece. Beautiful!

It will be very hard to express deep fillings and the way all the Ragas played by Ali Akbar Khan ,one can go on listening for ever & ever non stop .
Feelings. Not fillings 😂
Eternal. I could listen to this forever....
What a great TREAT !!!!
Thanks for sharing.... Khan Sahib was the ultimate musician and teacher...

Wow awesome Sarod vaadana great Khan sahib 👌👌👌👍🙏
The way he slipped Bourrée in there was very cool, It's fantastic when they take liberties like that. Great musician.
I thought I heard some Bach! It’s like ‘pay attention at the back’ 😊
Breathtaking, Awesome.

Khan Sahib. A master an an avatar. None will be like him. Chaudhuri likens Chatur Lal.
No other musician played Bhairavi as beautiful as Khan saheb does. One wants to listen to his sarod endlessly.
I doubt if anyone would come back to earth and be master like him ! someone with only god gifted music quality and understanding can touch his music!!
Monta khub valo hoe jai , morning time e ei music sune.
Such incredible depth! Mastery of raagamala in typical AAK style and simply amazed by the incorporation of Bach

This is historical. But at the same time this is eternal.
So much boldness; so much experimentation

I was there in person for this amazing concert. Khansaheb's playing that night was pure rasa.
wow!!!!!! I would love to have witnessed that in person. Incredible!
33:37: He mixes in the theme of the famous bouree in e minor from Bach's suite for lute, BWV 996!
you are right i think i first heard it a" on a jethro tull album and learnt it on guitar
by the way i once heard vilayat khan suddenly play greensleeves
Yes you are right.i felt same...
Thanks for that. I smiled when I heard his nod to western classical music, but couldn't identify the exact piece.
I noticed that too... that's why I was reading the comments, to see if others heard it.
Sharada Rajarshi Melodious ! Great !
This is real brilliance.
Mehdi hasan khan sahab once said that our music has life in it, even after hundreds of years when you listen to it if feels as it just got born.

The reason why 33:15 is the most played is because Khan sahib starts quoting JS Bach! What a true legend in every way!
