    In 2017 Guy Ritchie released King Arthur Legend of The Sword, starring Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law. It was a major flop and received poor reviews. Today I wanted to talk about the issues that occurred behind the scenes, why most general audiences weren't interested in it, and then talk about the final version of the movie that we did get.

      Same. Even if they didn't do full-on sequels with Arthur as the lead again, they could have done movies centered on the other knights, like I love the idea of having movies centered on Lancelot, Percival, Galahad and Gawain, with the recent The Green Knight proving how great it can work

    I got to watch it during the pandemic for the first time, and personally, it was really better than what people gave it credit for. From the scenary and background of Camelot, of course the great and entertaining style of Guy Ritchie holding all together, and Charlie Hunnam being pretty damn awesome as Arthur, in which I found to be a really interesting iteration of the figure of King Arthur and how learning from low grounds of Camelot, turned him into the leader he was supposed to be along with his connection to Excalibur. My problem of course, as you said, the pacing and editing does drag down throughout the middle act and the climax not being a strong pay-off. And the fact that they cut all the other connections to the Arthurian legend, such as the role of Guinevere and how the connection of Merlin could have brought a different layer for the story. Its really unfortunate that they couldn't do the original plan for the movie's story, because they still could have branched off another movie in the same universe but with another knight of the roundtable, like Lancelot, Percival or Gawain (though The Green Knight beat them with that character already, hehe). Nevertheless, its a really fun movie and entertaining for what it was, but certainly not Guy Ritchie's best work
    And of course #ReleaseTheGuyRitchieCut

      You know who would've been the best geralt if he were in his 40s? I present to you nikolaj coster-waldau. Jaime Lannister himself. He has the height, the muscular and fit but not too bulky build, he has the handsomeness, and he has the penetrating eyes. If not nikolaj, he is 52 now although still handsome, tall and fit, if not nikolaj, then charlie hunnam, OR hear me out.... Chris Hemsworth.

    I’ve probably watched this movie about 20 times at this point, it’s one of my favourite movies of all time. I love the fight scenes, and the humour is brilliant. I love Guy Ritchie films, especially the two Sherlock Holmes films. His fight sequences and editing are always amazing and I love watching them. I watched this for the first time probably back in 2019 or 2020 and I loved it from the get go. I was really surprised to learn that it bombed at the box office, and really upset to learn that it was supposed to be a six movie franchise but because of the bad numbers, they had to cancel the plans. I’ll admit, the montages got a bit confusing at times, but it really doesn’t bother me at all. The score for this movie is phenomenal; genuinely one of the best I’ve ever heard. I love this movie so much, and I really hope it comes back for a sequel.

    @jackdougherty3168 Před rokem +6

    Saw the movie with my dad when I was small, still remember a lot about it and how dark it was, yes somehow I was allowed to see it back then, and the story writing was great, the villain was very sympathetic as he slowly loses everything he had in the search of power and therefore has nothing to lose in his final confrontation with the protagonist, the idea of the sword giving you superhero speed to the point of almost stopping time and amazing strength its a very original take on how the sword works and why the antagonist wants it so much
    Overall I definitely recommend this movie but my one problem is how they discover Arthur's identity... I mean its cool but like that sounds like the dumbest way to be found out after many years of hiding and he just gets tricked into pulling the sword out of the stone which just seems so annoyingly simple, but still a good movie

    Honestly, when I thought this came out in September or October or even November of 2017, it came out in May 2017, and I scratching my head as to why this opened that mouth because GOTG Vol.2 which made 863.8 million USD, just released before King Arthur.
    The movie wasn't terrible to me it was just confusing and was divided into two or three different movies (how, well I can't explain it) I do like Guy Ritchie's films like Sherlock Homes theology, and I like his style of moving the camera to our main characters. The story I didn't like because it has characters that were underdeveloped, and it has some of like Dark Souls type was thrown in there, and I know the last battle was like Dragon Ball Z fight mix with like a video game, but I don't want to complain about this movie, it has amazing ideas, but the poor reason for this movie. 3/10 or 2/10 of the movie, but #ReleaeTheGuyRitchieCut

    I gotta say the movie was incredibly entertaining with Ritchie’s take on it, the quirky, charming main characters, and an emotionally-intriguing antagonist (reminded me of macbeth). Bro this movie is one of the best. I don’t care about Ritchie’s humour or his edit style and etc. Imo this is the beautiful fairy tail about good and evil. It seems that we forgot that fairy tails are the basics of everything. This movie is almost a guide for people and men especially. They explain the nature of evil, where it gets its powers, and what it needs to sacrifice in order to keep the power and control over other people. It shows And Arthur is the good on the other hand, it’s very scary and hard to be on the right side of the story, that why he is trying to quit the whole movie by saying ODGAF let me go at the beginning and throwing the sword away at the ending. Damn, if you start think of the movie in this way, you can tell how much Ritchie wanted to put his philosophy, almost I would say Christian believes in this movie, and I am sure that that is the case cuz when he kills Jude in the end Arthur basically says “you are the incarnation of satan”. So, yeah, one of the best if not the best Guy Ritchie movies. Snatch and everything is cool, but this one is on another level in terms of philosophy and deepness imo

    I first saw this film at the movie theater when it was on its way out. I was bored and there was nothing "interesting" playing in theaters, so I figured I would at least give King Arthur a shot but wasn't expecting much. What I got was the surprise of a lifetime when I thoroughly enjoyed the film! I own it on DVD and have watched it at least 10 times. My family loves it too. I was also shocked that it didn't get much recognition, but realized it was understandable seeing as I wasn't that interested to see it back then.

    Never count on what the critics say. They are at most wrong especially in current movies. And so many movies that dont make bank still become cult classics. Also just because budget exceeded box office doesnt also mean the movie sucks. Its just that there are a lot of severely high paid contracted actors, staff and equipment. There is also no control over what people are into until they see it. Look at so... so... so many of movies that get awards on the red carpet yet they dont make shit compared to budget. But to me those movies stink and that makes another point that budget and box office doesnt mean a movie is crap.

    It rushed the plot. That's what killed all tension and characters. You could make an entire movie about Arthur's early life, Uther's usurpation by Jude Law, and especially Arthur's life-altering journey in the Darklands. It had all the atmosphere in the world, yet before you could feel any of it, the movie ripped you away from it with the next cut. I really couldn't care about any of the characters. Watched it twice and still don't remember any names besides Vortigern and obviously cultural characters like Arthur/Uther. Then you've got the fact that they blackwashed Bedivere and a few others, and you really just didn't have a great final product.
    It had a phenomenal score and some stellar action sequences, but even the great moments of the film such as Arthur's ''You make sense of The Devil'' weren't earned because every bit of development was rushed.
    Honestly, the more I write my book and the more I watch films, the more I realise that 90% of films could be fixed with either longer runtime or more efficient use of time. Almost every critique I tend to have on almost every film nowadays is that they do not give the time needed for us to give a damn about the plot or its characters. This is why LOTR and Joker worked. Joker was all about one man. They took two damn hours for one man just to make us fully understand him. And LOTR worked because it gave its characters four hours, and in the characters that weren't present for the entire four such as Boromir, gave them an incredible amount of screentime with pivotal scenes all the way to the end that built and explained their characters to compensate.
    Guy Ritchie's fast paced style didn't work for the genre in my opinion. Comedies shouldn't overstay their welcomes, so the fast and almost jarring cuts from character to character and scene to scene works great for those. But tragic tales need time to sink in. Just minutes of watching a character break down over a loss with nothing but a soundtrack and some great scenery can impact the audience better than any dialogue or rapid cuts of what effect that loss had ever will. And Ritchie had none of that. We didn't feel Arthur. We just saw setpiece after setpiece. No better way to kill the suspension of disbelief than by taking you out of any immersion the moment you feel it. The longest scene in the film was probably Arthur first retrieving Excalibur, and it was the only scene where I felt something. Then even that was cut short...

    If you want to see a good adaption of King Arthur’s myths just watch Green Knight and Excalibur.
