A couple left their parents screaming with joy after bringing home their premature baby who spent 50 days in the NICU and leaving him on their doorsteps to capture their reactions. Ines [pron: E-nes] and Sandro Lavalleâs son Gianni [pron: Jah-nee] was born six weeks prematurely and therefore faced developmental challenges with his breathing and swallowing. So, for his grandparents - Sandroâs parents Renato and Bernardina and Inesâ parents Gianni and Marianna - it was an anxious wait over when they would be able to bring home their new grandchild. During 50 days in the NICU Gianni also had bradycardia spells - periods when he would stop breathing or his heart rate dropped - with docs telling the family he needed to have one week with no bradycardia spells in order to be allowed home. Ines revealed many times Gianni he would fight up to three, then four and five days with no bradycardia spells, but would then have a spell and theyâd have to start the clock over again. Gianni was born June 1 2018 and finally discharged from the NICU on July 21 2018 - total of 50 days - and since theyâd stopped reporting his spells to his grandparents the couple decided to surprise them and their respective homes in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. After knocking on the door to get their attention, the couple leave Gianni on their doorsteps before stepping back to record their tear-jerking reactions. And it was a double surprise for granddad Gianni as he discovered his first grandchild was also to be named after him.

As a 40 year old with no children yet, and parents who are pushing 70, I sure hope I can gift them with a grandchild. Love these reactions!

I was a preemie as well. Born at 2lbs. Went down to 1 lbs, 11 ounces. It is just a story for me. My parents lived through it. I was born nearly 49 years ago in a small hospital before NICU. Had to be resuscitated at birth, but survived without deficits. đ
Hey, I am the proud dad of three sons!⊠My youngest, 31 years old, just got married four weeks ago⊠Kids are the best for our lives!!
As an NICU nurse, this really makes me happy. It's a great feeling when you can help little angels survive đđ I've taken care of such babies and the smiles of parents are priceless while they go home âș

Yes! And you can see how much she's itching to just open the buckle and scoop up the baby:)
Man, I would have paid anything to see a reaction like that from my late father when my wife was pregnant. He died one year before I met her and sometimes I saw my father's smile in my son. Congrats to the beautiful family
AndâŠ..guess who his nurse was. :). Just saying. Little Gianni was a trooper! Thatâs why I love being an NICU nurse. Wonderful success stories.

I ended up in the hospital 10 weeks before my Christmas time due date. My daughter, Autumn, was born in mid-October 2 weeks later at 3lb 9oz. She'll be 20 next month. NICU staff were our angels.
Praise God !!! Wow!!! Pamela in Detroit
Did you call your daughter autumn after the season she was born?
@@lienbijs1205 we actually chose her name because it's both my and her father's favorite season. It just happened she was born in October. Thatâs so crazy! My best friendâs son Gianni was a preemie! They have the same name. He was 3lbs 8oz and lived in the NICU the first few months of his life. Heâs 10 now super healthy and no developmental issues. Thank God
Gorgeous little guy. Sounds very similar to our own first child. Born 7-8 weeks early, 2 months in special care due to breathing problems. He is now a happy and healthy almost 11 year old :D
So sweet, my nephew was born at 27 weeks here in Nigeria. Nicu was a different journey for all of us. So many things happened but the day he went home four months after his arrival, so tiny. Everyone was on ground to escort him and we couldn't yet touch him because they had to wait a while for his first set of immunization shots. Only his mom could carry him. He had to go back for another month for a surgery. The first day i carried him after his shots was a teary one because i held him just after his birth as we raced to another hospital in another town to the NICU facility there. So i held him again more than 4 months after his day of birth. He is a miracle and his 4th birthday is this Sunday. Every time we look at him, we say thank You Lord for sparing his life and his mom even though his twin sister didn't make it. We would have lost all three due to the complications of an emergency CS and placenta dislocation of his twin sister immediately my sister was opened up. God saved us all. We are still grateful. Big shout out to every NICU warrior and all supermoms of premiees. I was his proxy mom for a week and i had first hand experience while my sister was recovering.
Happy birthday to your miracle nephew for this Sunday Chioma đ And echo your comment regarding all NICU warriors and supermoms, and to the families - like you - who were there to help when needed most â€ïž
@@HappilyOfficial Thank you so much.
Great to hear Chioma! And also for this baby coming home. I once walked for my country in a foreign land serving the Marine Corps, I was young and thought that it was a tough time but that was yet to come. Years back I spent 3 mos in NICU with my 24 weeker, docs saying he wouldn't walk, talk, see nor know who we were. After all the bradychardia and vital stem plus so much more, my son can do it all and yes we are truly blessed given the odds. I thank God everyday and Im so proud and so grateful of it all. I consider myself a NICU veteran now because it was the hardest thing Ive ever had to endure by far, nothing exhausts a mind and body like the worry for your child, nothing. The NICu times were tough but it was all so very worth it and it changed me forever. I saw kids leave this earth, saw many with debilitating diseases. So when I even start to think times are tough, I am quickly reminded and brought back to reality veey quickly. I have had it easy, those kids are the real warriors here.
God bless đđ»
I thought the 1st Grandpa was like...oh boy ! You can go now ...we take good care of him. Lol

For those of us that can't have babies is painful to witness so much happiness! But I am happy for you and your family. Blessings!!!
This video is so precious!! These parents are so blessed to have this little one and I'm sure they know this too!! NICU's are unreal in all that they do in saving babies!! My ex sister- in- law had twins years ago at 26 weeks and they were in the NICU for a week until they passed. I was amazed at what they did for all the babies there. Until you experience it in person, you can't begin to know what all they do for these precious babies. These Dr's and nurses are amazing people to work in a field that doesn't always have the best outcome. It takes some very special people to work in this area of the medical profession. My nephew was a NICU baby and again I saw firsthand what all goes on to save these babies and to help get them better. My nephew will be 13 in August and is healthy as can be. He is an outstanding soccer player and you would never know he was a preemie!! Thanking those NICU Dr's and nurses who helped save my precious nephew!!! God is so good!!
