    Some things you just don't skimp on and helicopters are one of them, you get what you pay for, kinda like Robinson's which are notorious for mast bumping due to low force load limits that are exacerbated by the choice of 2 powerful engines that the frame and body aren't durable enough in my opinion and others with 145 hp which is derated to 131 hp for five minutes at takeoff and 124 hp for continuous operation. A powerful engine, a lightweight steel-tube airframe. The R22 uses a horizontally mounted Lycoming O-320 (O-360-J2A on the Beta II), flat-four, air-cooled, normally aspirated, carburetor-equipped, reciprocating engine. It is fueled with 100LL grade aviation gasoline and for such lightweight material used in the construction if continuously flown beyond the load limits you will most definitely end up dead like so many other previous Robinson owners.

    I remember back in the early 60's, you could order small "copter kits" from the back pages of Popular Mechanics. They were like $99 and stated "no licenses required".

  • @youandiryan
    @youandiryan Před 8 měsíci +1

    46 k is not bad. the expensive part is getting your license depending on where you live. I'm in Canada so you need at least 100 hours to get your license. and getting 100 hours costs more money than the helicopter in this video

    • @shawnsahota9857
      @shawnsahota9857 Před 8 měsíci

    • @youandiryan
      @youandiryan Před 8 měsíci

      @@shawnsahota9857 assembling it does not matter that has nothing to do with it. You cannot fly a helicopter in most of US/Canada without helicopter certifications. It's like driving a car without a drivers license. Only the repercussions are much more severe with Aircraft. You don't get a ticket with an aircraft like a car. You don't have your license or certifications you go to prison. That would be why. To answer your question

    The idea of multiple small flying aircraft isn’t going to work. All small aircraft crash a lot. It doesn’t matter if they’re gas or electric. Computerized or with a pilot.
    Imagine a hundred different aviation accidents in America every day. It would be chaos.

    What's with the belt drive?. Does not seem very safe. You could argue they don't fail that much. But there are other options with much lower failure rates ie chain, direct or gear drive.

    With the stats on that, if it weighs 254lbs or less, it's an FAR part 103 ultralight and don't need a license to fly it.
    You can also use it as a daily driver.
    You're basically buying a car you don't need a license to drive.

    The turbine option is sweet, but the belt and pulleys really should be enclosed. Pigeon flys by, gets sucked down through the main and into that belt, jamming your rotor drive train...💀 It is a nice looking aircraft though.
