2:52 , Thats why you are supposed to release the e-brake tension adjuster in the center console first, before you remove the rotor.

It might be because of the edge on the inside of the brake disk

Excellent video. I believe the anti-rattle clip was placed in upside down. For all of your time and effort, thank you very much.

You put the clip in the wrong way, please inform people of this so that they don't do it wrong either. Just google up some images and you will see.

Came to the comments to see if anybody had noticed. It's been 5 years. They should at least pin this comment. I wonder how many people they screwed up with this video.

The most neglected parts of most cars, rear brakes, so refreshing to see some serious investment on this car.

Before installing brake shoes on these Volvos, Make sure that you loosen the adjuster at the level in the interior (behind the ash tray in the back) almost all the way. Not only will this make installing easier, but if the level adjuster is too tight, you will not be able to get a good braking force on both wheels.. (been there, done that..)

I think the metal clip is upside down at 9:25. Otherwise great video!

Volvos should be SAE, eh? So 9/16 should be correct. Just found out last night if you find a way to depress the brake pedal roughly 1/2'', it shuts off any leakage from lines. Cool eh?

I noticed the e-brake shoes were not adjusted or the rotor not even turned to check the shoes drum clearance.

Can u help me, I have a 940 base volvo wagon, the mechanic didn't put the preheat hose back on, never said anything about the air box thermostat etc, I think they should have just replaced the preheat hose, without it their is a lot of extra hot air in the engine compartment, also the holes are just open, if the thermostat in the air box is confused due to no preheat hose what happens they didn't even mention the air box thermostat so I don't know if it works now, also they never cleaned my MAF, it was corroded at connections they didn't know how to check the obd codes so I figured it out and cleaned the MAF sensor which completely has improved my idle which was too high all the time esp in park or neutral . Thank you

Do the 13mm bolts to hold the new caliper in place need to be new (not previously used) bolts? Thank you, Martin.

Interesting: the bolts that hold the calipers on my '90 Volvo are 17 mm. Goes to my theory that Volvo knew for years they were going to sell their car division, and started compromising the design to better fit the way other cars were made.

+1. .. The supplied caliper lubrication is by ATE, the brake system manufacturer. .. I've used the ATE caliper lube for 30 years on our MY98 911 C2S Carerra, MY95 E320 Coupe, MY79 VW Beetle Cabriolet and an MY07 Volkswagen GTI. The ATE lube is all good.
