      @@ValentinKossenko I would say one of the most interesting feature keepass has is triggers. One thing you could showcase is how to have a master database (maybe for a household) and individual databases for every user. Upon opening the 'Master' database from a specific computer all passwords are going to be imported. Building this (for me at least) was a fascinating project and knowing the way you approach videos, you most likely going to find even more options for something like that!
      long story short, triggers !!

    Your KeePass videos are very very well done, both in production quality and in their information. The best available on CZcams for the topic. I am just getting started with KeePass and setting up my own cloud on my NAS, but I know it will be much easier following your tips.
    One more video would be very helpful though. In one of your videos you mention that you were the resource for your entire family's passwords including your grandmother. How about a video on how to set up KeePass so that family members can access the passwords also? Maybe setting up some family passwords and then some passwords for individuals alone with private access would help. Is there a way for individual master passwords to access one account with shared files like different users share a Windows PC? Although I know I can use KeePass, I am worried about my wife and son accepting it. How did you bring your Grandmother along?
    But again, very good videos!

      Hey Tom, appreciate your kind words. This is a great idea and something I will be explaining in a future video or short for sure as it could be useful for many privacy-concerned password manager users.

      To answer your question: Individual master passwords are currently not supported. But you could use a shared database with some tricks I will hopefully be showing in a future video.

    I find Keepass to be incredibly helpful in my day-to-day life, but I'm curious if it's possible to put a portable version of Keepass on a normal USB stick, and if so, can I sync it with my regular PC so that changes on the PC can be reflected on the USB stick as well?

    • @ValentinKossenko
      @ValentinKossenko  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I actually put the entire KeePass folder in my Dropbox except for the key file itself. That way all my settings are synced across multiple devices without compromising security.

    Hi, great videos. I want to run a local password manager for all my local systems. Better security, but also, if my internet goes out, I can still access password manager. Is it possible to sync KeePass devices locally? I have all sorts of NAS, VM and such and want the syncing to be local. Thanks.

    • @ValentinKossenko
      @ValentinKossenko  Před rokem +1

      You could probably achieve something similar to Dropbox synchronization with Syncthing locally. Depending on whether your main machine runs constantly, FreeFileSync or RealTimeSync could work for you as well.

    Any guesses, why there is no possibiliy to add 2FA to open KeePass?

    • @ValentinKossenko
      @ValentinKossenko  Před 2 lety +3

      If you set up a composite master key like I explain in the video, you will effectively have 2FA. Make sure to keep your key file away from your database though, to make it really safe. There is an OTP plugin that you can use in combination with a Yubikey that is called OTPKeyProv, which you can find here: keepass.info/plugins.html#otpkeyprov Perhaps this is what you're looking for. Looks unnecessarily complicated though for what it is. Just get a couple of cheap USB sticks and put your key file on there. If you do it like this, even if your cloud, etc. gets compromised, as long as no one has access to your USB stick and key file, you'll be perfectly fine. Hope that helps!

      Hey guys, thanks for reaching out! Appreciate your help here, SEEK TRUTH! Always puts a smile on my face when I read things like these.
      I understand that KeePass can be quite complicated and after sharing the video on Reddit, many people noted that I was being too fast, which might make it even harder to follow for inexperienced users.
      KeePass has a pretty decent knowledge base on their website, so I don't think an eBook is really necessary. If enough people ask for it, I will consider creating one myself though.
      Because I do all of this besides my main job, it needs to have a small price tag on it. What would be a fair price on such an eBook? Would appreciate some feedback on that!

    Hi Valentin. First of all thank you for the great videos on how to set up Keepass. I've been using it now for about a year and couldn't have got it set up so well without you and your brilliant videos. I have the portable version set up on 2 Windows PC's, along with Keepass2Android on my 2 phones and Syncthing keeping them all fully up to date and it has worked brilliantly ever since on all my devices.
    My only negative comment is about using Key Files. The makers of Keepass told me on their forum that they don't recommend Key Files. When I was first setting it up, along with Syncthing, the Key File kept running into some kind of problem that seemed to corrupt my database and locked me out so I had to abandon that idea and set it up with no Key File and it has worked perfectly ever since.
    Once again I just want to say a huge thank you to you as I couldn't have got it working so well without your help. Best wishes to you.

    • @marylinc656
      @marylinc656 Před rokem

      What if your device gets stolen, having autofill for your master password could put everything at risk. I have my master password buried in a place where only I know where to find it and just copy and paste it from there which is a far safer idea.

      Yeah, I wouldn't suggest autofilling your master password or saving it in notes or anything similar. That puts all your passwords at risk in case you lose your device. Your password should be saved or written down somewhere else without context so that no one knows what it is for except you.

      You are right. That's why you should ideally have backups on multiple devices.
      PS: If you make your key file an image, you could also save that on a USB stick at your parents house for an additional backup just in case. Since it is just an image, no one will ever know.
